Everything posted by elonwy

  1. For those in the Los Angeles area (Westside/Hollywood), esp those from our "mini" support group, I just found out about a massive CDF meeting in Marina Del Rey on the 26th of Feb. The invite list is like 63 people long. There will be food from gluten-free-friendly restaurants in the LA area, and recipe swapping. If you would like to go, email me at elle...
  2. As far as I can figure with extensive research, the "celiac episode" is a rumor started by a Celiac on the Fox's house message board as "a cool idea". It then ballooned off into rumorville, and here we are. I am a huge house addict, its the only thing we watch where BF is not allowed to change the channels during commercials ( I get very upset) and believe...
  3. Oh fer crying out loud. Somewhere I had a list that listed them as ok, and now I can't find it, and I went to the Ore-Ida page and there are NO tater tots there. @#*^!%^$!!! Guess I'm switching to the extra crispy fries. No wonder I've been all spaced out. Thank you. I have two bags of them in my freezer too. Imna go kick something. Elonwy

    ARCHIVED Cure For Celiac Disease!?

I went to the link that was posted, and have one opinion SEVERE QUACK ALERT!!!!! He also says he can cure herpes and a whole bunch of other things that aren't curable, and he says he can cure you OVER THE PHONE!!! <pppppppppppffffffffffftttttttttttttt> Elonwy
  5. thats crazy. I didn't even notice that was gone. I used to get that all the time when I was tired or felt crappy, and I haven't noticed it in a long time. I bet there was a connection. My light sensitivity is getting better too. Our bodies are really weird. Elonwy
  6. The latest Pantene info I have states that thier frangrance *may* have gluten in it. I'm switching to all Dove, because I know I can read thier labels. If they have something that is a plant extract, the plant will be listed in parentheses after the ingredient, or wheat, barley, oats will be clearly labeled. PITA, but I can deal with that. Elonwy
  7. My current addiction is Ore-IDA Extra Crispy Tater Tots, accompanied by a grilled cheese sandwich made from Kinnikinnik white Tapioca Bread and craft singles with a dab of mayo on the inside, the Tater Tots oven baked, the Grilled Cheese pan Fried with just a teeny bit of butter. MMMMMMMMMM. Sinful. Elonwy
  8. I have now been on hold for AN HOUR. I don't think they're picking up. My neck is starting to hurt ( my speaker phone is broken). I may give up in minute here and call again tommorrow. I am at work after all Elonwy
  9. God I HATE that. I used to get that ALL the time. It seems to have gone away as I get more and more gluten-free. I always have to run though, because sometimes its NOT a false alarm. Elonwy
  10. I'm the Celiac, my boyfriend is not. I got diagnosed a year and a half into our relationship. For the most part I don't mind, but one of my favorite things was Stouffers Swedish Meatballs froxen dinners, which I got him hooked on, he had never had them before me, and last week he bought one for himself, and I found in the freezer. I swore at him for about...
  11. Kinda funny, I've been on hold for 20 minutes now. I've NEVER been on hold when calling a nutrition line/company before. Elonwy
  12. Other that my fury at losing the second to last place I can eat french fries outside my house, Here's my current problem. After clearing history and restarting I was able to see the updated pages. THe ingredient list clearly states wheat, but the gluten-free page, updated the same day, stil says fries are fine. Some hapless new celiac is going run across...
  13. ON the crispy butterfingers, they have wafers, which is off limits, those wafers going to be cookies which are going to be made out wheat. It should say wheat rather loudly on the label. All M&M's except for the blue (crispy) ones are gluten-free. There is a current controversy in another thread about exactly how gluten-free the hershey's chocolate bars...
  14. Maybe there was a misprint? Mine is definitly in japanese, my dad reads and speaks japanese. I've used the chinese one as well, and its in chinese. You may have gotten one that printed wrong. Chinese and Japanese are pretty different looking, as well. Chinese is much more Spidery. Elonwy
  15. Are you talking about the Filet-O-Fish? Its also dipped in batter and fried with other battered things. Anything that is battered is off-limits, cause its going to be full of flour. Elonwy Meant to add this: This is the gluten-free list for mcdonalds Open Original Shared Link
  16. I'm here in LA. There is a whole foods in Hollywood on Fairfax and Santa Monica that has lots of gluten-free stuff, for a store in that area. I've had fabulous luck with Gulf Stream and Houstons in Century City, they are a higher end chain, Houstons is steak, Gulf Stream is fish, owned by the same people. The Stinking Rose on La Cienega ( in hollywood...
  17. On the wierder side, there is a Hawaiian snack called Musubi which has been stolen from the japanese and modified. Its like making big Maki rolls, but you do it while the rice is warm and the filling is spam or chicken which has been fried in soy sauce. Toss a little toasted sesame seeds in there, roll, and enjoy warm or cold. Its the best thing on the...
  18. Does anyone know if Keens Traditional Curry is gluten-free? I've got a tin of it here, and I love it. I lived in Queensland for a year when I was a kid, and developed a taste for some specialty items, including of all things, vegemite on toast. For that matter, if vegemite gluten-free? Thanks bunches. Elonwy
  19. Carry a big purse. I always have snackums, cookies, cheese sticks, etc, I've even brought my own crackers to parties. Ask for a plate or just find a safe spot. I've got no patience for people who can't deal with it, myself. I only eat at friends houses that I trust ( total people:2) and every one else I bring my own stuff. That way they aren't inconvienienced...
  20. I had a vaguely similar experience. I was positive for antibodies on the blood test, and my biospy showed "no gross evidence of sprue" whatever that means, but I went gluten-free the day after the biopsy and had such a positive reaction to the diet that he diagnosed me with Celiac on the basis of my blood test and "dietary challenge". Technically it was only...
  21. Velveeta is gluten free, my fav has always been melted velveeta with Salsa. mmmmm. Queso. Elonwy
  22. I dream that I forget, and am eating something gluteny, then remember part way through and get all upset. I also had a dream a few months ago where I was being chased by gigantic monster baked goods, slavering fangs and all. That was weird. Elonwy
  23. This stuff is made in Idaho, maybe you can get a store near you to carry it Open Original Shared Link its yummy too. I can't tolerate any grain based alcohol, distilled or not. Dunno if its connected, cause by all rights it shouldn't be, but I avoid them. maybe after a year or so I'll try some triple distilled whiskey (mmmm...whiskey) but until then...
  24. Heres the easiest way. Go here and print out the safe/forbidden lists: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-47106414766.a3 Just so you know, the first few times shopping at the grocery store will take ALOT longer that usual, then as you get used to stuff, and realize there are entire aisles you don't need to go down, it gets faster. I'm now...
  25. I don't react to blue cheese either, and read the research broncobux was referring too, and feel safe. Do know that there are blue cheeses that will state "wheat" on the label, and those I avoid. Elonwy
