ARCHIVED Gluten-free Beer
elonwy replied to Sally Palmer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most beers are made with malted barley, some have wheat in them, and others are made with oats (anyone else miss the Oatmeal Stout?) Beer is an absolute no-no on the gluten free front. Some mainstream beer manufacturors have stated their beers are ok on prior occasions, but it is misinformation. I had a case of exploding Bards (sorry Tiffany), which was... -
ARCHIVED If You Have Indoor/outdoor Allergies...
elonwy replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I take claratin daily, and then Flonase during specific times of the year. All of my allergies are specifically beacuse of the city, once I leave the city they go away. Elonwy -
You said you're eating the gluten free breads? I've found that too much rice bread, pasta and other products all at once can give me C. Not much fiber in most gluten-free breads. Kinnikinnick adds pea starch to thiers to up the fiber content, I've had the best results with them. Just an idea, something I went through in month two and three. Elonwy

ARCHIVED Mrs. Leeper's/ Corn Rotelli
elonwy replied to skurtz's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love thier Tuna "helper" and the chicken one, though I just add tuna, chicken is too much work. Its a great one dish meal on those lazy nights. My non-gluten-free boyfriend loves it too. ELonwy -
ARCHIVED First Attempt At gluten-free Baking...
elonwy replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My mom is also a baker, and having some trouble adjusting, but after a few false starts, shes doing well again. She swears that adding 1/2cup to a cup of pre-dissolved plain gelatin as part of the water will make the bread springy and make it rise more like regular bread. I see if I can't get more explicite details out of her in the next couple days. She... -
ARCHIVED Two Product Questions Please
elonwy replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, since I've stopped eating them, my low grade head fuzzies and gas has subsided, so I'm not sure if I'm going to continue if they update the list. Its the only thing I changed really, other than figuring out the frozen veggies I was eating were not ok. It's never dull around here. Elonwy -
ARCHIVED Two Product Questions Please
elonwy replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was eating tater tots, and was feeling low-grade icky, then realized I had an old list and stopped, and now I feel fine. I would not eat the tater tots. Heinz is really good about not listed things that might have cross-contamination issues, even if the core ingredients are gluten-free, so I would follow what thier list says. Still waiting for my friend... -
ARCHIVED Am I The Only One Who Feels This Way?
elonwy replied to glutenfreeheather's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Adding in the chronic pain, then you have more to be depressed about or by than just Celiac. There are different kinds of depression, those caused by chemical imbalance, and those caused by situation. I went to a therapist for years ( my childhood sucked) but never responded well to anti-depressants, so don't take them, even though they've been shoved in... -
ARCHIVED Am I The Only One Who Feels This Way?
elonwy replied to glutenfreeheather's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At the risk of having bread thrown at me, I'd like to chime in on my outlook. This is geared towards the average Celiac, apologies to people who suffer from multiple illnesses. We do have it pretty easy. Yeah its a PITA to be gluten-free, and we have to pay alot more attention but... We don't have MS or LUPUS or any other degenerative nerve condition,... -
ARCHIVED Went To The Gastroenterologist And Now Im Confused And Embarrassed
elonwy replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Heck there are even Celiacs like me, who though I suffer from severe bloating when I ingest gluten, didn't really have a weight problem either way. I *think* I'm fat, but thats another issue entirely, and hopefully therapy will help with that. My GI was rude and insensitive too, until my blood tests came back positive, and then he was only slighlty less... -
Thats awesome that your mom has gone Gluten Free. My mom also has, after inconclusive tests, and is miraculously feeling better. I think she's still fighting a little bit, but she's doing really well and has jumped right into gluten free baking, which is nice Welcome to the forum, it can be an odd place sometimes, but its helpful and fun and uplifting...

I noticed that the new Pizza Staxx do not say Gluten Free on them. Could this be a reason for the change? Elonwy -

elonwy replied to sillyyak's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED How Do I Make gluten-free Rice Krispy Treats?
elonwy replied to munchkinette's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I eat Jet-puffed all the time. THe kraft marshmallows are safe, though I always recommend labels be read because we know how companies love to change things. Kraft will always state clearly wheat, barley rye or oats. THe Erewhon Cripsy Brown rice is exactly like rice cripsy's, except for the being brown part. As someone said earlier, be careful because they... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Detectives Unite.
elonwy replied to elonwy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No this was definitly gluten bloating. I can eat a bag of potato chips with no problems, so I don't think the bloating came from sodium. Its a special feeling I'm well aquainted with. Earlier in the day I had had a corn crunch ems, which I've been eating every morning for the last week, and then I had a cheese stick about mid-day, which is a snack I've also... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Detectives Unite.
elonwy posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dinner last night was very simple. Thai Kitchen LemonGrass & Ginger Jasmine Rice, says gluten free right on the box. Added in C&W Ultimate Tuscan Blend ( Frozen veggies) which has spices added, but I put a call in to the company, and they said they don't use gluten anywhere in thier processing, except for the boxed side dishes that have bullion... -
Some people are just idiots. I (had) a friend that started laughing at me every time we would be in a food situation together because he thought it was funny! I told him to his face that I thought he was an A@@ and we don't hang out anymore. My reply would have been something like "Oh yeah, remember when Lupus and MS were the thing to get? God I'm glad...

ARCHIVED Hello Newbie Here :d
elonwy replied to pauli's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When you first start out theres going to be "accidents" as you learn to read labels and understand where stuff hides. As you go along these should get less and less. Mark it as something unsafe, and move on. You may not feel good for a couple days, or however long your "glutened" time is, but you'll get eventually. Really earlyon, you may not even notice... -

Breakfast : Corn Crunch Ems or Enjoy Life Granola or Grits or scrambled tofu with Veggies and Cheese Morning snack: Cheese stick or 8oz V8 Lunch: Salad or Amy's or Sushi ( my salads are usually baby greens, feta cheese, nuts, fruit, dressing sometimes leftover meat from the night before) Afternoon snack: Cheese stick or celery and Laughing Cow cheese or... -
Anything other than thier basic things are not on thier menu, you just have to know how to order. They are VERY serious about thier food. They also do a "grilled cheese" for vegetarians ( obviously not gluten-free, they use a bun), its not on thier menu, but they're cook it away from a meat area if you ask. They don't make anything that could cross-contaminate...
