  1. Lots of BBQ sauces have stuff in them, malt vinegar as was mentioned, many have modified food starch (from wheat) which nobody ever thinks of. I often ask to read the ingredient labels of such things, have had them take me back in the kitchen to read the label on the side of a gigantic tub o' salad dressing that kinda thing, they give me wierd looks but noone...
  2. Band aids give me crazy rashes, turns my skin bright red and itchy as all hell. When I need something, I use gauze and sterile surgical tape. Looks crazy, but my skin doesn't react. Grrr bandaids. Elonwy
  3. That is one of the coolest things I have read in a while. It's also going to be the water cooler conversation at work tommorrow, lol. Its even one more reason to think about everything I put in my body. So if Celiac is caused by the gut brain being confused, and they learn how to "teach" that brain... maybe all my gut brain needs is some schooling. Elonwy
  4. I know alot of people on here use Amaranth, I personally don't like the taste. The only time I can abide it is if its a small amount in a flour mixture. I got the bread crumbs and the crackers and just couldn't do it. I never got to trying the cereal. Elonwy
  5. I have great experiences at PF Changs, but do know that when they bring out the rack of sauces, those are not the gluten-free ones. You have to ask specifically for the gluten-free soy sauce on the side, even if you just ordered gluten-free. Why this happens I have no idea, but I'm glad I asked the first time it came out. The gluten free dishes are always...
  6. That comment on Chef's not Cooks is exactly right. The better the restaurant, the better the experience. I limit my eating out to fancy places and a few thai/sushi restaurants that I've built relationships with. And IN and OUt, but I don't know where you are located. Places like Denny's are a bad idea. Do you have dining cards? It also helps if the wait staff...
  7. I stay away from grain based alcohols even if they are distilled because for some reason they make me sneeze and my nose run. Chopin and other potato based vodkas and other things like tequila and rum don't have the same effect. It's pretty weird. Elonwy
  8. Salmonella can also be found on produce, I believe chives and leeks and scallions are especially vulnerable, we have had some salmonella outbreaks in the US due to contaminated veggies, so its not something that is limited to poultry. Elonwy
  9. I don't have kids, but I wet the bed until I was nine, and they could never figure out why, said it was "physchological". Fffffft. Elonwy
  10. So I did a McD's fry test and an hour later my eyes were drooping with exhaustion (when I get glutened its like someone pulling down on the skin beneath my eyes and I get Raccoon rings) and I couldn't think. So they suck. I'd avoided them until now but I was in a big hurry and thought I'd risk it. Not worth it. Elonwy
  11. Yeah "The customer is always right" is not really a slogan found in France, lol. Yop appears to be gluten-free in Canada and the UK, but I still have nothing on France, and I don't trust anything non-country specific. I love that stuff. Elonwy
  12. On the Yoplait issue, do anyof you know if YOP! is safe? Thats the yogurt drink they have in France. I got absolutely addicted to that stuff the last time I was there, but that was pre-gluten-free. I have emailed Yoplait but haven't gotten a response. Thanks Elonwy
  13. Could you be intolerant of rice or corn? Most gluten free products are heavily rice and corn based. Just a thought. Elonwy
  14. Having grown up in Hawaii, I'm going to pipe up. Tourists are something you grow up despising, because many of them are rude and uncouth. I've met alot of great tourists, but for the most part its something that you try to avoid as much as possible. Many people go on vacation and leave thier manners at home. Especially on Oahu, where you have the double whammy...
  15. I'm going to be in Paris for two weeks in July (the 8th through the 25th) and both those websites posted here are fantastic, thank you. If anyone would be interested in having lunch during that time please let me know. I probably won't be posting here during that time, but my email addy is elle871@yahoo.com. I forget exactly where my friend is, but she's...
  16. Ack. Hopefully it'll work out. I'll have a purse full of larabars and cookies, so I'll make it Vegetarians do get sick from eating meat. My mom's a vegetarian and I did it for 8 years and went out on a Quarter pounder with cheese and was sick for about three days. I gradually introduced meat back into my diet starting with easier things like chicken and...
  17. I called them and ordered it. Guy on the phone seemed pretty knowledgable, and its early, so hopefully they'll do well with it. I will scrutinize every inch of it before it goes in my mouth though, I'll tell you that much. Elonwy
  18. They only offer the gluten free option on thier international flights, which is possibly why it wasn't available. I know that alot of our airlines here are doing the same thing. Wherever I go, there is always at least a snack bar in my purse. I never leave the house without some kind of food. When I travel it tuens into a backpack. Elonwy
  19. I'll be flying with them in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone had experienced thier gluten free menu option. I always have food with me, so I'll be fine if it sucks, but I'd like to know if its worth even attempting to order, being that its an 11 hour flight. Thanks Elonwy
  20. I got offered a donut today by a very sweet girl at work. I gently told her "I'm sorry honey I can't eat wheat, but I feel the gesture, and I'll take the love and kind thought instead". It went over very well. Elonwy
  21. I've never been Anemic in my life. If anything, I lean the other way, as does my mother, who also has Celiac. My doctor said I couldn't have it without family history, I demanded the test anyway, and then we find out after that, other people including my mother have it and had no idea. They don't know everything. I also often feel sick immediatly after...
  22. My brain fog absolutley went away and only comes back with accidental glutenings. Its so good to feel "sharp" again. Elonwy
  23. I would tell him about it before you order, but don't make it a big deal or make it sound too serious. I went on a date last wednesday, and I had mentioned having strict diet issues so asked that we go to a sushi place to make it easier. When we sat down before the waiter came, I told him I was gluten intolerant and gave my date one of my dining cards to...
  24. I didn't even notice but you're right! I used to get them every 3 months or so, it was terrible, and since going gluten-free, I haven't even had one. What a nice side effect! Elonwy
  25. I use Classico too. Heres a fun twist. I fry up some bell pepper strips and onions with a little worchestershire. Add Classico Alfredo Sauce to the pan when the onions are clear. At the last minute, toss in some black olives and the cooked pasta, stir for a moment, then serve. Sounds weird but its AMAZING and easy. Elonwy
