  1. I think the paper plate in the microwave thing is definitly an issue. I got lazy one night and nuked some stuff on a paper plate and got really sick. When you microwave stuff on a paper plate, it tends to stick, and I'm sure I probably ate some of the paper. I don't do that anymore. I've never had a problem with paper towels though. Elonwy
  2. It also said you're more likely to get sick touching a co-workers keyboard than sitting on a public toilet. Elonwy
  3. There is a bush's or two that aren't gluten-free, but its clearly stated on the label. Don't remember which ones, but its pretty clearly in the ingredient list. Elonwy
  4. I like to make it at home, its a really easy soup. (serves 4) INGREDIENTS: * 1/4 cup butter * 3 onions, thinly sliced * 1 teaspoon white sugar * 1 tablespoon gluten-free flour mix * 2 1/2 cups water * 1/2 cup red wine * 2 (10.5 ounce) cans condensed beef broth Optional: * Some gluten-free bread * 8 ounces...
  5. Sake Cake is a by-product of the sake making process. Its the equivilant of mash when making bourbon, but is whats left over from the koji rice used to make the sake. It should be gluten free. Only really bad cheap sake is made from anything other than rice water and yeast. I have yet to find rice vinegar with gluten in it. Elonwy
  6. I had the same experience recently. I was sluggish, exhausted, imsomniac, sick to my stomach, had D and generally felt like poo. I checked on the meds before I took them ( how well my pharmacy knows my requests now) but it felt like I'd been uber glutened. Horrible. This is the first time I've taken antibiotics since being gluten-free, and they used to make...
  7. Also if the broth they used to make the spanish rice has gluten in it, I have a hard time finding gluten-free spanish rice. I get itching with no rash, uncontrollable embarrassing itching all over my body, from my scalp to the bottom of my feet. Elonwy
  8. 1. FIRST NAME? Elonwy 2. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? A Character from a Lloyd Alexander series. 3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY? Last night, watching "When the Levees Broke" 4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Sure 5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? Hillshire Farms 6. KIDS? Two little furry hairball machines 7. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON...
  9. Labels and padlocks and don't stop telling her no every single time. Don't be afraid to ask her to leave if it doesn't get better. That is NOT cool. Don't yell, whatever you do, cause you instanlty loose ground, stay as calm as possible, but explain that she is endangering your health and that its making your residence unsafe to live in. I was looking for...
  10. My mom is now gluten free and doing much better, she's been sick for years. A friend of mine who had been having terrible trouble for several years finally tried the diet and is doing amazing, I got a lovely email thanking me for telling her about it. I have another friend who I'm working on, he's classic celiac, but putting up some resistance. Every...
  11. My favorite Celiac Saying is "When in doubt, go without". Everytime I've tried to second-guess, whether through hunger or hopefulness ( I'm sure it doesn't have gluten, cause I don't want it to), I've gotten sick. McDonalds fries give me brain fog and fatigue within a half hour. I didn't want them to have gluten, but they do. Heres how my attitude has changed...
  12. Yeah I took up smoking again after diagnosis. I felt I needed something. Its terrible, but what are ya gonna do? It also really makes me feel better during gluten attacks, there is a link between delayed onset of symptoms and smoking. My doc's response was "I don't agree with it, but I'm not going to lecture you on it either." Think I'll run have one...
  13. I realize that I missed mine, I've been gluten free for a year as well, passed it in July. Its amazing that its been a year. We rock! Elonwy
  14. Nantzi- let her know that I make Spam Musubi at home and its really easy. Actually, I make a lot of Hawaiian things at home, I even have a shave ice machine. Most Hawaiian food can be recreated very easily by switching to gluten-free soy sauce. I only get to go home about once a year, so I have to recreate alot of that childhood stuff, cause I miss it so...
  15. I'm happy I don't have to give up rice, corn tortillas, popcorn and Spam (its a Hawaii thing). Elonwy
  16. Yeah my name is a bit wierd, isn't it. Dang Welsh folk like to throw W's in wherever. I'm really happy people decided to come over to Open Original Shared Link. Dr Orrange is awesome. She's smart and open minded and has great bed side manner. Its nice to LIKE to go to the doctor. I'm glad she could help you. Elonwy
  17. There is a good chance the marshmallow squares have malt in them, and if they are indeed made with Rice Crispies, they are not gluten free. Most commercial puffed "rice cripsy" cereals have malt. Elonwy
  18. Put a teensy bit of water in there with it. Maybe just mist it a bit or something. It needs moisture in there to reheat properly. I bought these new tupperware called cleverware that has a little vent in the top so you can microwave stuff covered. They've been great for reheating gluten free things in the microwave that don't reheat well uncovered. Elonwy
  19. Right before I went gluten free, I used to get attacks of GERD that would make me unable to breath. Felt like someone had stuck something in my windpipe. My doc thought it was a hiatal hernia, turns out it was a gluten reaction. I also had the "eat two bites of something and feel full" thing to go along with it, and horrible constipation. Went away after...
  20. As far as your daughters allergies, as a child my main issues were constant runny nose, ear infections every couple months and chronic bronchitis. I was also tiny and skinny. Wasn't until after around 22 that I started getting tummy issues and all the other junk. If you test positive for Celiac, every first degree relative in your family should get tested...

    ARCHIVED Dh?

Not to be gross here, but could it be scabies? I got them once from bedsheets at a hostel. Woke up with itchy red, clear on top, bumps all over my legs, some on my hands and arms. They tend to get worse at night. Any Planned Parenthood (donation based, no insurance needed) would be able to tell you if thats what it is. They are easily treated but you do have...
  22. My dad was a carpenter for a while and I used to go "help" when I was a kid. Drywall dust makes me incredibly sick almost instantly, tummy, throat, eyes, skin, horrible. I would second the mask. And not just the cotton filter cheapy ones from the store, but a good one with filters like you can get at the hardware store and some goggles. I know construction...
  23. Suck, Thats new. Used to say, we test batches for gluten, etc, etc. Must have been issues. grrr. Elonwy
  24. Yeah I made that for the first time Sunday. It was soo good right out of the oven I ate four peices of it. Its really good. Still a little heavy but delicious. Elonwy
