  1. Awww. Thank you all. I worked a long, long day, had a long, long commute. Came home, had PF CHangs, passed out on the couch. Today there is a little Party with some Gluten Free Cake. Yum. Elonwy
  2. Yes it is. Elonwy
  3. In addition to Celiac, I have a topical allergy to wheat. So if I touch wheat, I get itchy rash. I'm still not sure if its actually related to Celiac or DH. This might be the case for you as well. Elonwy
  4. A week is a really short amount of time. I would stick with the diet for at least a month and see how you feel. The other thing is, as we start out, there is a little learning curve and little mistakes we make as we figure out how to work this diet, so we're often not completely gluten free at first. A week is not enough time to give up. Also, depending...
  5. My current quick and easy is Lundberg Farms Risotto ( kinda like rice a roni without the pasta) and then I add frozen veggies and frozen shrimp when I add the water. Depending on the variety I'll either wrap it in a corn Tortilla or just eat it by itself. Not sure what your other intolerances are ( some of the rice mixes have dairy) but it sure adds variety...
  6. So I'm up here, and temporarily staying in San Jose, and since my job is in the Financial District of SF, this needs to change soon. So if anyone knows of any cat friendly apartments, I'm looking in either Alameda or the Millbrae/San Bruno areas. I'm not really looking for a roommate unless they're a Celiac, for obvious reasons. I'm also very much an only...
  7. It's actually a different spelling, its glutinous, with an I. Just means "sticky". Totally safe. Elonwy
  8. I got the cold hands and feet and frequent urination from gluten. The thing about MS, is its not a definitive diagnosis the way the gluten intolerant/celiac test is. Its not a blood test, its a series of tests and hypothesis. So you should wait till you've been gluten free for a while to test for it, to see what symptoms go away. One of the critirea for diagnosing...
  9. Sucks that that happened. I always ask again when they bring it out. They brought me the wrong ones once, and I noticed because of the color. The gluten-free lettuce wraps are much lighter in color than the regular ones. I've also gotten to the point where I can smell the difference. Sorry you don't feel good Elonwy

    ARCHIVED Wendy's

My friend who had the same story also worked there right after high school, so about ten years ago. His story was about the meat drawer where they'd throw the screwed up burgers. Its very possible that they've changed things. The things that go on in fast food restaurants though.... yeah its illegal, yeah its disgusting, but you have no idea what you're eating...
  11. The secret is whipping cream. Saute the garlic in butter before adding to the potatoes. Toss in some sour cream and parmesan. I make wasabi garlic mashed potatos that rival wolfgang puck. Its all about the whipping cream. Elonwy
  12. I also have brought food to restaurants and functions, and have never asked permission. I just order a drink, if they try to take a food order I say no, and then I bust out my food when other people get theirs and munch away. I might get a wierd look here and there, but other than that I don't have any problems. On the two occasions I was asked why by servers...
  13. CoffeeMate now has a gluten free label, at least on the liquid refrigerated variety. I have not seen the coconut cream yet, but look for gluten free in green on the back. Nestle is good that way. Elonwy
  14. Whiskey is made from rye. Vodka is usually made from Wheat. I have wheat allergy in addition to celiac and I have a reaction to grain alcohols made from wheat. The soy vodka's I haven't liked as much. The potato and corn ones are good, I haven't ponied up for the grape versions yet. Elonwy
  15. Welcome to "Caretaker Syndrome". Having gone through taking care of someone who was very ill and not really happy or involved in his recovery, I get where you're at. The doctors and the medical system fail to mention that taking care of someone who's that sick can have as much of an effect on the caretaker as on the person who's sick. The best way to help...
  16. Yeah that is ALOT of fiber. Apples and nuts= fiber, banana=fiber, Veggies=fiber, not to mention the flax. Wheee. When I first started on the diet, I thought I needed to add alot more fiber to it. I needed to add a little more, because of the rice products, but not that much more, be careful not to go too far with your fiber. I have also found that Soy milk...
  17. I used to have really bad insomnia, the "not able to fall asleep no matter how tired you actually are" kind. This started to get better after about 2-3 months on the diet. I now only get that way if I've been glutened or am really stressed out. Its really nice to know that when I'm going to bed, I'll probably be asleep soon. I fall asleep so easily now that...
  18. London, England. Soooo easy. Tons of stuff in stores, restaurants knew what I was talking about - brilliant! Disneyland. Gluten free hot dog in a gluten free bun at an amusement park? Fabulous. Elonwy
  19. I have had no issues with Dekyuper, and I have a reaction to grain based vodka (allergy reaction, not gluten), so I would say yes, its ok. I love my sour apple Martinis. Elonwy
  20. YAY NEW JOBS!!!! Elonwy
  21. I just got back from SF today, they flew me up for 5 hours for the last portion of my flurry of interviews. I haven't been around cause I've been insanely busy dealing with the OMG New Job thing, and working my extra job to try to make moving money, so have been rediculously exhausted and antisocial for the last month. This job is frakking AMAZING. Its...
  22. I would think that it would be something else. I had that reaction last week to completely gluten-free bacon, for whatever reason. Horrible D for hours, cold sweats, whole deal. Felt like gluten, but no way it could have been. That really sounds like it might be food poisoning or flu. -E
  23. I hate Jack in the Box. Because for the last three weeks: My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard And they're like, its better than yours D*mn right, its better than yours I would teach you, but I'd have to charge. ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG.
  24. Open Original Shared Link These leave thier break bars in the dust. They seem to be new, i got the lemon ones too, since they had them at whole foods. light crunchy wafer, amazing. Definitly a texture/taste combo I was missing. YUM! Elonwy
