  1. I would keep an eye out for malt (hence the crisps), but Clan Thompson has the same info as the website, the White Chips being the only taboo thing. Elonwy
  2. Am I the only person that thinks that these kind of responses have been on the rise since the McDonalds Fiasco, or am I just opening up a can of worms? I'd eat it, BTW. Elonwy

    ARCHIVED Pf Changs

I second the tip on the color of the lettuce wraps. If you see a regular lettuce wraps, the color difference is very noticable, the gluten-free is much lighter in color. This was a fav before gluten-free, and I think the gluten-free ones are better, personally. The singapore noodles and the lemon chicken are the best. They have the menu's at the front...
  4. I have always hated all melons, they make me gassy. I have a friend who is deathly allergic to them, so its definitly something that can be an issue. Elonwy
  5. I'll add an awesome server one while I'm at it. Sushi place down the road from me, went once two months ago. I bring my own soy sauce packets with me. Show them the Japanese Triumph dining card, she loves it, discusses options, I order a Philly roll minus a couple things, and she takes the card with her to double-check before ordering it. At the same time...
  6. Not related to Celiac, but still mind blowing. Stopped by a Hamburger Hamlet with a friend from Germany the other night. We sit down and the waitress comes up and asks if we want drinks. My friend replys "yes I'll have sparkling water please". She looks straight at him and says "Do you want that with bubbles or without?" Ummmm.... with? Elonwy
  7. Some states still allow you to be excused if you work from home. California, at least LA County, does not allow that anymore, since almost everyone in the film industry is self-employed. There should be explanations on what is excusable on your jury form, and bag lunch is definitly the way to go. Had mine last June. Got picked the first day but the settled...
  8. The raw onions are fine, the grilled onions with the brown sauce are not ok. Elonwy
  9. Technically their sauce is gluten-free, but they use a knife to dip into the sauce and then spread it on the buns, so its a no-no. If you order the way I described above, you'll be fine. Elonwy
  10. Heres the deal with IN N OUT. Burger- Protien Style, no sauce, no grilled onions. Ask them to cook it away from the buns, they often have a grill in the back left open for special orders. Fries are ok, Shakes are ok. Cheese is fine if you can handle dairy. I also ask them to use a seperate bag if ordering with others, since the burgers aren't wrapped all...
  11. Pamela's shortbread cookies crumbled up with a little butter make a great crust. I use em for Pumpkin pies and Cheesecakes. I just use a regular cheesecake recipe and substitute gluten-free ingredients. Yummy. I just had oral surgery, but I think when my mouth heals I might have to make a cheesecake. Elonwy
  12. There is a PF Changs in the Beverly Center. The Stinking Rose on LA Cienaga, they don't have gluten-free menu, but if you call in advance, they will accomodate and even let you bring your own bread to enjoy with the roasted garlic appetizer (YUM) Solar Harvest 242 S Beverly Drive Has Gluten Free items on the menu and can make any sandwich gluten-free, they...
  13. American Spirits are addative free, but they're strong!!! They taste funny because they are missing all that fun stuff that makes cigs taste good. I switched to them for a while while trying to quit, it definitly helped. I like my Camels. Marlboro's make me naseous. Elonwy
  14. I know that my Celiac Symptoms didn't get really bad until after I quit smoking. I started again right around diagnosis, and have found that it really does settle my stomach when I'm not feeling well. I know its a bad thing, but even my doctor isn't that stressed about it right now. I know that I will definitly quit when I decide to have kids though. My new...
  15. Garfunkel's was on the list of gluten-free friendly places, so I stopped by when I saw one today. They were friendly to the gluten-free thing, but the food was terrible, and there was a bug in my salad because someone had forgotten to rinse the greens and I lost my appetite and didn't eat my food, and when I showed the gross bug to the waitress she said ...
  16. I'm staying in Muswell Hill just above Highgate. I went to a Girrafe's for breakfast and showed them my dining card. The girl took one look at it and said "ok gluten free, what would you like instead of the toast" and wrote gluten-free down. I had a lovely gluten-free english breakfast. Went to the Sainsbury's right after that and grabbed a bunch of goodies...
  17. Its about a tsp of Xantham Gum for every 1 1/2 cups of flour. Same with the gelatin ( I do both, you get the most spring that way). For the future, Pamelas makes a chocholate cake mix that is indistinguishable from the real thing. I've had the best results making gluten-free cakes using a bundt cake pan instead of a standard square or round cake pan, not...
  18. When I download things that the computer thinks might be an installer file it asks for my password. I'm on mac, but at this point they're really close to eachother. Did you try typing in your password for your computer? Just a random thought. Elonwy
  19. Hangovers are caused by dehydration, vitamin depletion (the body trys to rid itself of the alcohol and takes alot more with it) and are influenced by the sugar content of the alcohol, as the body tries to deal with that as well. The gluten-free beers I've seen seem to have more sugar (in the form of mollases or honey) content than regular beers, and so...
  20. I use Pamela's (great pancakes and biscuits) and Bette Hagmans Four FLour Blend which is great for cooking, as a thickener in gravies and stews and such. As for the Xantham gum, the gluten in wheat flour acts like a web when it bakes, the protiens bind together, and thats why so many gluten-free things are crumbly, because they don't have that "webbing...
  21. The only Cheetos which don't bug me are the "natural" white cheddar puffs, which are addictive as all get out. The regular cheetos and the jalepeno cheetos give me a tummy ache, but its not a gluten tummy ache its more of a "thats not really food why did you give me that" tummy ache. Elonwy

    ARCHIVED Taco Bell?

They have a list on thier website. The rice wasn't gluten free for a while 2002-2004 and is again now. Open Original Shared Link The only things listed as completely gluten-free are the tostada and the pintos and cheese and the rice. At the bottom is a paragraph about how to order the bowls gluten-free. I had the pintos and cheese the other day after...
  23. I'm not really against or for anything, but I do have Celiac induced IBS and Splenda puts me in knots. My GI doc said that Splenda specifically of the artificial sweeteners is a no-no for people with GI issues, especially IBS. It can make the symptoms worse, so if you do use it, know that it can cause stomach cramping and C or D. I have to avoid it entirely...
  24. Since I went gluten-free I haven't looked back. I still enjoy the smell of freshed baked bread in a bakery, but its not even a craving thing, its like smelling a flower and saying "oh thats nice". Other people are more worried about me being offended by their food than I am. The thing that gets to me is ordering in a restaurant sometimes just gets kinda irritating...
  25. Just make sure you get gluten-free ice cream. If you go to Dreyers website and look at the individual product info it tells you which ones are gluten-free. Doesn't say on the carton, but the website is a great source. I'm a mint chocolate chip fan myself. I went off dairy (mostly) for my first three months and it helped a great deal and then I introduced...
