  1. I can relate to that! My whole life I never learned to cook...it was all about convenience for me. Fast food, microwave dinners and mac & cheese. Now I cook everyday. Meats, veggies....pretty much all the stuff I hated to eat before I got sick. Its amazing what we can do when the results are positive though. I made the adjustment pretty quickly and...
  2. Shannon, Thanks for the tips on where to look. Sounds like you've really been learning about this stuff. Yes, I did have neurological symptoms. I was sent to the neurologist more than any other specialist while I was sick....although I did end up seeing them all. She did a brain MRI and some other tests but everything checked out fine. The worst...
  3. I know you are still eating gluten for the time being. If I remember correctly you were going back for more tests?? If you still end up with no answers and are stuck with that IBS diagnosis you may want to consider Enterolab testing. I don't know if thats something you're interested in or if its affordable for you. I can tell you its $350 to find out everything...
  4. I was going to start researching this tonight since I have DQ1. Where did you research it and do you have any links? Sometimes its really hard to believe I dont have celiac disease with my symptoms and I'm sure you feel the same about Ella. My GI doctor told me not having one of the 2 main genes doesnt rule out celiac. With all said and done sometimes I...
  5. I agree. 2 weeks is not that long at all...give it some time.
  6. The main things would be the toaster and he should have his own jars of p.b., jam, mayo...seperate butter. Basically anything that may have traces of wheat crumbs should not be shared. Trace amounts still cause damage to Celiacs...its not the same as a peanut allergy...but it can still cause unpleasant reactions. You dont need seperate dishes...just make...
  7. Yeah...I was serious about the toaster. I don't know what made your mother decide he could be celiac but if he is and you only partially eliminate gluten it will still make him sick. Even a crumb can make a celiac sick so a seperate toaster is pretty essential on a gluten-free diet. Also things like using the same knife in a jar of peanut butter or...
  8. Marie, I'm sorry if your post was misunderstood. I don't know of any members on here who are on a "fad" diet. As far as I know the majority of people here had serious health problems. When you mentioned that alot of people on here don't have Celiac....I assumed you were referring to those who don't have an official celiac diagnosis. I understand...
  9. If you're son is Celiac he may have lactose intolerance as well as problems with gluten. If the gassy, bloating type symptoms persist maybe try eliminating dairy. It is very common for people to be intolerant to dairy during the healing phase. Also other food sensitivities can also show up after going gluten-free. I would give the diet more time though.....
  10. Do you think you could be reacting to things other than the foods itself? I mean possibly the pesticides on the apple? Maybe you have leaky gut and that could cause you to react to lots of foods. I find it better for me to eat organic foods, foods that are unprocessed and not too much of one thing. From what I've read true IgE allergies that would cause...
  11. I noticed increased energy only a week after going gluten-free. Prior to diet changes I was staying in bed all day and on disability. After changing my diet I suddenly was awake bright and early and started all these tasks around my house. I painted the garage, stained a fence and did all sorts of landscaping projects! Now I'm up at 3 am every morning for...
  12. Do you know of any other products made in a decicated facilty? I love Enjoy Life cuz its one of the only gluten free foods I dont react to. I dont know if its just gluten traces or maybe something else in the other products that bothers me but I just do alot better eating Enjoy Life than any other brands I've tried.
  13. Just curious....what does flat feet have to do with Celiac? Did the ND explain? Also why would flat feet keep someone from getting drafted? I don't think my extremely flat feet have ever done anything...except look flat.
  14. Good luck Matilda! I think cigarettes make me feel worse because my immune system just cant handle the toxins anymore. Same way I cant tolerate lots of things right now...like aspartame and perfumes.
  15. Can opener?? I never heard this one before...although I did think about it but figured I was being a little overly paranoid. Has anyone else changed their can openers? ok...I found this on a website: Is this for real...my can opener blade isnt clean...its the electric kind and been used for 6 years now. I dont think I've ever meticulously...
  16. Personally, I think this is a rather selfish statement. If only those who had "official" Celiac diagnoses were allowed on this forum...the amount of caring, supportive and informed people here would be greatly diminished. Instead of taking your frusteration out on those of us who were not properly tested or even informed about celiac disease by our doctors...
  17. Jennifer, I got my Bare Esentuals lip gloss at Sephora. Not sure where you live or if you have one near you?? You can also order online. B.E. products are a little pricey though.

    ARCHIVED Yay!

    Very cute...made me smile.
  19. I called all the companies first and verified what was ok and what was not. I ended up only changing my blush to Neutrogena and my lipgloss to Bare Esentuals. Everything else I use is safe. All of the Bare Esentuals stuff is gluten-free if you are interested.
  20. I waited until I got my Enterolab test results back and as soon as I got them and saw that they were positive...I switched everything to gluten-free. I actually didnt have to change that much after calling all the companies there were only a couple things I had to change as far as make-up.
  21. Everyone is different as far as reactions go. If you don't have symptoms now it is very possible you may get them once you go gluten-free. Alot of people become more sensitive after starting the diet....like you described. You also may never experience symptoms...this can happen as well. If you have celiac disease you just need to follow the diet 100% regardless...
  22. JnkMnky is right. If you truelly want to quit you can. I quit after smoking a pack a day for 14 yrs. I just quit cold turkey 3 years ago and that was that...I didnt use a patch or anything else. I had tried unsuccessfully to quit several times before that but I didn't *really* quit until I really *wanted* to quit.
  23. My symptoms are much more noticeable now. I dont know if they are more severe because prior to the diet my symptoms were all a blur...I felt pretty crappy everyday and just stayed in bed...had no energy. I was on disability for 2 years. After going gluten-free I definately have my energy back (although not 100%) but now I get hit hard with symptoms when I...
  24. I'm curious now. I smoked for 14 yrs. but decided to quit so I could be healthy in the long run (I had no health problems at the time). The same month that I quit is when I started having symptoms and got sick. I would like to be able to smoke once in a great while but my body REALLY reacts to cigarettes now. My symptoms flare up after smoking...

    ARCHIVED Wary...

Well at least you can enjoy eating with your family for the time being. It will be interesting to see the test results since you have no change in symptoms. Maybe you can eat some pizza for me...and donuts...and oh yeah...CAKE!
