  1. Did you have bloodwork done or just the biopsy? A negative biopsy doesnt mean you dont have Celiac.
  2. Thanks for sharing that. What a great idea to email that thread to her...now I've learned some things about Enterolab and Dr. Fine that I wasnt aware of before. All good stuff.
  3. My regular grocery store (Raley's) has those. I bought the pizza ones.
  4. Your doctor ordered the right tests. The only one missing is the one that checks for IgA deficiency. A small percentage of Celiacs don't produce any IgA so the tests would always be negative in an IgA deficient person....even if they have full-blown celiac. I guess if they come back negative you could ask your doctor about that test. I wouldnt start the...
  5. Just a thought but maybe you were reacting to the dairy and not necessarily the gluten. I dont think everyone "noticeably" reacts to gluten each and every time its consumed. Like everyone else said...its still causing damage even if you dont feel it.
  6. I agree George. Not surprisingly I had NO noticeable gastro symptoms for the first 2 years of being sick. I saw every specialist *but* the GI. I saw the Neurologist several times, Opthamologist several times, Dermatologist, Rheumatologist, Phsychiatrist, Obgyn, Infectious Disease specialist, numerous GP's and I have an Endocrinologist due to Graves...
  7. Thank you for your input Matilda...you explained exactly what I was going to say next and you did it much better than I would have. The term "gluten intolerance" or "gluten sensitivity" is often used when referring to autoimmune responses to gluten....whether its celiac or non-celiac. Its basically all the same if its causing damage.
  8. celiac3270...no offense is taken. I believe you are extremely knowledgeable in the area of celiac disease. However, I think most of your research involves only classic cases of Celiac...such as your own. I think there is much more to be learned about gluten sensitivity and newer research is showing that this problem goes way beyond typical cases of Celiac...
  9. From what I've learned I believe that even w/out the Celiac gene gluten can cause serious damage to body tissues. Celiac is just one presentation of what gluten can do. There are other gluten sensitivity genes...besides DQ2 and DQ8. From what I understand these other genes present in other ways and *still* cause damage, autoimmune disease, neurological problems...
  10. Thanks everyone, I was posting for someone else who emailed me with this question...not sure what brand she is using though.
  11. I got mine in 2 weeks....on a Sunday evening too! I think they usually email the results on Sunday for some reason.
  12. Sure...I'll let you know or if someone else sees it first I'm sure they'll let you know as well.
  13. Liquid stevia has grain alcohol and natural flavors... I'm wondering if anyone knows whether its gluten-free or not?
  14. Since you're still on gluten you should try to get as many tests done as you can before going on the diet. Once you start the diet it will mess up any future tests. Have the doctor run the Celiac panel Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA The doctor should...
  15. Keep us posted...I'm very curious to see what the outcome will be.
  16. Its typical to get the bloodtests first and if they're positive you will then be referred to the GI. I was referred to the GI after I recieved my Enterolab results but by that time I'd seen every other specialist and had been shuffled around for 3 years. Its good that you havent started the diet yet...hopefully you can tested soon so you can try the...
  17. Even though I'm in a similar situation as you with no definative answer...I could not do the challenge. I'd rather have the unanswered questions then go back to the kind of pain and depression I had before. I havent gotten my biopsy results yet but I'm certain they're negative so it wont really tell me anything. I wish you luck for the next 3 months...
  18. I agree 100% with this statement. I read "Dangerous Grains" and I think its a great book for everyone to read but at the same time for me....*seeing* is believing...or "the proof is in the pudding"...so to speak. I've been going around to various message boards and letting people know about gluten sensitivity, the diet, testing methods...etc. Alot...
  19. Thats not entirely true. What if you don't have full-blown celiac disease? What if you have Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity like so many others here do? The diet works the same for these people as it does for a Celiac and there is still harm occurring to the body tissues in these people if they eat gluten. If your symptoms get worse when you go back on gluten...
  20. No...its not as normal thing. I was having the same problems. Everything was coming out undigested and I lost 25 lbs. My doctor told me that its perfectly normal to have undigested food coming out. I think he needs to go back to med school if he thinks that losing 25 lbs. despite eating normally and having it all come out undigested is perfectly normal...
  21. Mel, The gene test cant diagnose you...it can only tell you if you have genes which predispose you to Celiac or gluten sensitivity. I'm assuming you didnt have the full panel and only the Iga?? You can do the blood test if you've been eating plenty of gluten everyday for the past few months. If not...the bloodtests are not reliabe. If you got...
  22. I had swollen lymph nodes. They are alot better now but other food sensitivities can cause them to swell again. I had red dots on my arms but they are more like bumps and they itch...like a rash. Sometimes I get sporadic ones on my legs. I dont really notice them coming back since I've been on the diet.
  23. Yes...I think its very obvious that your husband has Celiac and his doctors are incredibly ignorant. He was doing better on the diet...correct? He was healing. It takes a long time for gluten to redo that same damage that was seen the first time. His gluten challenge was 5 days and his doctors are now saying he doesnt have Celiac. This just seems...

    ARCHIVED Wary...

We need Stephanie to read this post...I think of her as the "gene expert" around here. She would know for sure. Anyways given the genes and the positive antibodies you can probably assume you have Celiac if you get better after eliminating gluten 100%.

    ARCHIVED Wary...

Sorry...I was going with George's earlier post cuz I really don't know all that much about how to read the genes although there are lots of people here that do...so maybe someone will help. What did the report say? This is what mine says: Although you do not possess the main genes predisposing to celiac sprue (HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8), HLA gene analysis...
