ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
Rachel--24 replied to kallie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm still wondering about this myself. The tTg is suppossed to be specific only for celiac disease. Why do Enterolab results show elevated tTg in so many of us w/out those main genes. It doesn't make sense to me. I've read everything there is to read regarding Enterolab's tests and maybe I'm missing it but nowhere do I find an explanation for this. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Infections
Rachel--24 replied to thomas3000's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Didn't you state in a previous post that you are currently doing work for this particular company? I'm sorry but that makes me a little skeptical. Also you "guarantee" that all of us here are going to have some kind of parasite....I had all of those tests done and I don't have any. I tested with Great Smokies...they are very well known...if they say I don... -
ARCHIVED Dry Skin
Rachel--24 replied to swittenauer's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have dry skin too....I never had it before I got sick so I think for me its probably got something to do with lack of vitamins or something. -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
Rachel--24 replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wondered about this too at first. Others on this board mentioned that sometimes shampoo can get into your mouth while showering. I thought it wasnt too likely but one day w/out thinking about it I realized that the shampoo DID get into my mouth....and I'm sure it wasnt a one time thing. Also I guess having gluten in any of your hair products will result... -
I agree with this last post. Being only recently diagnosed I think it might be better for your husbands recovery to eat more simple foods. I could be wrong but I thouht I'd read in previous posts that he is still eating out and at fast food chains daily. His risk for getting contaminated is pretty high. I'm finding I feel better if I don't go crazy trying...

ARCHIVED Yay! Dad Is Finally Seeing The Light!
Rachel--24 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ian...thanks for the encouragement. I needed that Back in April I thought I was dying too...I was in really bad shape. I went on the Candida diet..not knowing what else to do. Within a week I was like a new person (like you said..."better" for me yet still sick) but since I wasnt worried about gluten..it was still sneaking in. Now that I'm gluten-free... -

ARCHIVED Kimball Genetics Testing
Rachel--24 replied to gigimom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was reading something yesterday (I don't remember the site) that was saying that the IgG is the least specific of all the bloodtests. Apparantly a positive IgG alone does not conclude celiac disease because people with other intestinal conditions can also have a raised IgG. Also your daughter could have gluten intolerance w/out celiac disease. I find it... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
Rachel--24 replied to kallie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Kallie, I was just as confused when I got my results...to tell you the truth I'm still not really sure what it all means. A doctor I saw last week told me that malabsorption can change often from one day to the next. I asked about this cuz when my HMO tested me (a few months back) they said it was normal but Enterolab scored me at 912 Thats a big... -
Is it fluid retention causing the swelling? Last week I was eating alot of different foods...previously I'd only been eating meats and veggies. I have fluid retention anyway but adding all the new foods really made my legs swell and it was hurting to stand...thats never happened before. Not sure if it was just too much too soon or maybe too much sodium. I...

ARCHIVED Yay! Dad Is Finally Seeing The Light!
Rachel--24 replied to frenchiemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ian...I've been meaning to ask you. Obviously the diet is the best thing thats happened to you..its given you your life back. You don't seem to have struggled with it. Was this an overnight change for you or did you experience some down time first? I realize its only been a couple weeks for me but I get ups and downs. When I read your posts sometimes I wonfer... -
ARCHIVED New Diagnosis?
Rachel--24 replied to clbaug9's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Kaiti...you should talk to your doctor about this...maybe run more tests. I was reading something yesterday which said that if all blood tests are normal with only the IgG being elevated this *could* be caused by something else other than celiac disease. The article stated that other intestinal conditions could also cause an elevated IgG. Of... -
Yeah....and if we lived in a gluten-free world...we'd be able to buy loaves of bread for 99 cents again and our food wouldn't show up in our mailboxes! That would be awesome

ARCHIVED Daughter In Denial
Rachel--24 replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow...thats a tough one. Why would someone tell her she doesn't have celiac disease...why would she listen??? Does she not get symptoms from consuming gluten? Isn't there a way you could just bring up the diet in conversation...like just asking her how things are going? Would she not be honest with you if you were to just bring it up without telling her you... -
I don't see your new pic...I still see the squirrel with the bagel How come? I hit refresh but its still the squirrel???

ARCHIVED My Doc Thinks I Have Celiac
Rachel--24 replied to Lena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since you've stopped eating gluten for 3 weeks I'd say you'd have to be back on gluten for at least a couple months. Not positive on *exactly* how long but I don't think just a couple weeks would be enough time. -
ARCHIVED My Doc Thinks I Have Celiac
Rachel--24 replied to Lena's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the last post. Definately DON'T stop eating gluten if you're planning on being tested soon. This will mess up the tests. -
I don't know about anyone else and I'm still trying to figure all this "gluten" stuff out. Sometimes it seems like I don't get an immediate rection from gluten but then the next time I eat...no matter what it is...I'll start getting sick from it. It could be just plain organic chicken or a salad and all of a sudden I'm getting a reaction. I think the gluten...

ARCHIVED Going Back To Work...
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After reading your post some thoughts came to mind. First...I cannot relocate my office because I accept deliveries at the backdoor which is where my office is located. I have to be near the backdoor for security purposes...which would be fine if the bakery weren't in that same area. It just dawned on me that I could always transfer to another store where... -
ARCHIVED Halloween Is Coming!
Rachel--24 replied to musikate's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What a great idea! I never thought of collecting anything but candy on Halloween. Collecting donations for UNICEF is such a good idea....if I had kids I'd do the same -
I have all the symptoms you mention but not the twitching. How long have you been on the diet? The first couple nights I could hardly sleep at all and I would wake up with waves of anxiety like you described. It was like I could feel it surge through my body or something. I don't get diarreah or cramps often either. I get that wierd buzzing once in a while...

I ate at Outback last year when I was first "trying out" the gluten-free diet. I was at the bar and asked for a gluten-free menu....they kept telling me someone would bring it....never happened. When I finally got a table I asked again...same thing...apparently they couldn't *find* the menu and were trying to get it from another Outback but then the fax machine...

ARCHIVED Chewing Your Food
Rachel--24 replied to Wandering Hermit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's a fact that chewing food more aids in digestion. I've read this a million times...its just hard to remember when I'm eating though. I think its better for everyone...not just people with celiac disease...to chew their food more thouroghly. You should try it. I've read you should chew the food till its almost liquid and this will greatly improve digestion... -
Have you had your thyroid checked? When my thyroid was overactive from Graves Disease I had lots of energy...huge neverending appetite and lots of thirst. Plus overactive thyroid causes weight loss...even with excess food intake. If you've had that checked then maybe your body is still adjusting since its only been 3 weeks...I wouldn't think you'd continue...
