  1. I was told that mouth sores are caused when your tummy gets upset, so it stands to reason, that when we get glutened, we will also get mouth sores! I have also found, they last about 3 days, no matter what. I too, have used Oragel to ease the pain while they heal. I often wonder if a mouth sore is what our tummy's look like inside too!
  2. I swear I used to be taller, I remember being 5'7", but low and behold, they tell me I am 5'5". My friend Kev and I originally met online and he was afraid I was going to look him right in the eye because I actually thought I was 5'7-5'8 at the time and on the day we met, he laughed, as he was looking down at me and said, "Silly, you are only about 5'5!...
  3. From personal experience, my brain fog has never completely gone away. I keep notes, I write things down that I don't want to forget, then sometimes I forget where I put my notes. I think many of us celiac's also have ADD. I see many of the characteristic's in myself and now, over the years, I can look back and see them. I have 2 son's with ADD and I...
  4. Bellyfat--you should not have been able to purchase tea now that was dated 1997, if you still have the receipt, you should return it to the store for an exchange for a new product. That is ridiculous--no food item should ever be on the shelf for that length of time. If you have had it in your home for that long, it's up to you if you want to still drink...
  5. He's 26 again and free of pain, in heaven with family and watching over you all. You will all be together again one day, until then, just know he is with the angels. Sending you angels too help ease your pain.
  6. Well Sillyboo, no one, not even my mother can make me feel guilty enough to eat something I know I can't eat. Don't ever feel like you have to do that to please another, it's just not worth it. Nearly everytime I talk to my mother or get a letter from her, she makes me feel sad. She sends me recipes for things she has made my dad that he really liked...
  7. I react to anything on my skin and I have never reacted to any nail polish. Not to my knowledge, anyways. I've used good stuff and cheap stuff--covered the range of polishes, never reacted to any.
  8. Terri, to answer your questions first--tomatoes give me diarrhea usually within 1/2 to 1 hour. Most nightshades do. Corn and soy constipate me and also cause this nasty red rash, sometimes raw, on my tummy. Usually the rash is my first sign that I have eaten something with corn or soy. If I get gluten, corn, or soy on my skin, instant burning sensation...
  9. I only buy boneless, skinless chicken breast now, occasionally cod, talapia, or flounder, sometimes tuna--green beans, peas, small amounts of carrots--some fruits, of course, my peanut butter and ricecakes (I asked one of Dr. Green's nutritionists about why I can still eat ricecakes and she says it happens, even with an intolerance to some foods, there will...
  10. As you can tell by reading in this forum, many of us are self-diagnosed. Many of us do give up on doctors finding the cause of our problems. Too many false negatives. As for going gluten free, yes, you have got to go totally gluten free for a true test. You can't just give up wheat. Wheat, rye, and barley and you must watch for it in everything you...
  11. East Islip--Suffolk County on the south shore. Of course, I am not a native islander, I am a native Michiganian, but I do love it here. Michigan is a beautiful state and the Great Lakes are beautiful, but they can't beat the beauty of our Lady, the ocean!!!!!
  12. My sister once told me that she has not once found a vanilla with gluten in it yet--I do not worry about it. She bakes so much and is a celiac, plus a dietician--so I do value her opinion.
  13. From what I understand, most people already have the other intolerances, it's just the gluten is masking them, once the gluten is gone, then the others start to surface too. I went gluten free in July of 2000. I was gluten free for 3 yrs probably before soy became a problem. I decided to try the Blood Type Diet. I am Type A and the Dr. says that...
  14. I personally have never worried about nail polish--I do not chew my nails. A person who chews their nails and would get nail polish in their mouth, would be of concern, but then, I would imagine, they wouldn't bother polishing their nails, would they? Anyways, I never worry about nail polish or polish remover. I just looked at my polish remover and it...
  15. Very interesting. I read an article once about this subject and this person writing it said that most people who think they have diarrhea, really do not. He said true diarrhea is not just running to the bathroom with urgency. All I could think was--have you ever had it mister? I wanted to ask him--Have you ever fell asleep sitting on the toilet in the...
  16. Now, after the whole xanax incindent and my knowing now, that I do have a completely different reaction to being glutened now than the reaction I used to have, I actually wonder if I havent been glutened at work and never even knew I was. My xanax glutenings always give me this nervousness the next day, this on edge feeling, a teariness, and the over all...
  17. Tgrand, sometimes you may find that family may never understand. My sister was telling me that her momther in law still doesn't understand. She will say to her, "You can't have potatoes, right?" My sister has been gluten free for 7 years and her mother in law still doesn't get it. Then she will say, "Oh yeah, it's rice you can't have" and my brother in...
  18. My sister and I were talking about teeth and celiac disease this last weekend. We were wondering if celiac + calcium deficiency could cause problems with teeth and cavities. well with the teeth just falling apart--we both have problems with that. I know as a teenager, I had a mouth full of fillings and I recall always being a tooth brusher. I can't really...
  19. I know I bought one of St. Ive's body washes and it will be a long time before I trust them again. The minute that soap touched my body, instant burn and I could not get it rinsed off fast enough. They didn't include it on your list. It was one of the liquid soaps that contains "water" in the name, it was a blue bottle and had little moisturizing pearls...
  20. Isn't that sad? One of the most well known hypo allergenic companies can't guarantee their product is gluten free--now where does allergy free come in to their product? Wheat is a hugh allergen to begin with? And yes Lori, I do think it's possible that now, these products are starting to effect you. Our bodies have to work so hard, then when we do go...
  21. I bought Oprah's November issue, just to see what the magazine is all about and to be honest, I probably will never buy it again! Yet, I did find an interesting ad very close to the back of the magazine. This sad looking terrier has a caption above his head and in it, it says, "Mom, my skin itches....is there wheat in my food?" Then the ad goes on...
  22. Happy birthday Deb--sorry its a day late!!!!!!!!
  23. I had to laugh at this thread, not because you worry, but because just last week I told someone that "worry" is my middle name. I worry that my kids have celiac and aren't in the frame of mind to do anything about it for now! I worry that my grandkids will have it and their parents won't realize it! I worry that I recognize the symptoms in friends and...
  24. This is the $10,000 question! It's difficult to answer. I have never been glutened by a kiss and yes, I have been kissed by many. Usually, whomever I am with has been told about my celiac disease though, I never hide it from anyone. I used to worry about kisses from my grandkids, cause they always were chewing on cookies or something, so I had to be very...
  25. Thanks Raven for the info. My neuro has watched me closely while on the Topamax and it doesn't seem to have increased any symptoms, yet, it doesn't seem to be stopping the headaches either. Thankfully, my PN isn't as painful as some speak of, or I am more tolerant, which I know can be true of many. I have had pain for so many years, I just tend to go...
