ARCHIVED I Haven't Gone To The Doctor..
darlindeb25 replied to amandabear20's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's a personal option. Some people NEED to have an official diagnosis, or they won't even try going gluten free. To be honest, there are many, many more gluten intolerant people, than there are celiac's. It's totally up to you. Now, 9 years later, I wish I had the money back then to be tested, still, it doesn't matter to me all that much. My sister... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Solve My Mystery!
darlindeb25 replied to RideAllWays's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you using your own pan? I always take my own pan along. I get glutened every time I try to use someone else's pan. Could someone have used one of your products and CC'd it? Sometimes, even when you clearly mark your own things, others will use them and not realize what they are doing. Migraines on their own upset my stomach. I'm sorry this has... -
ARCHIVED Omg! How Sensitive To Gluten Can One Be?
darlindeb25 replied to joyceelaine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup, Dr. Steven Wangen. "Healthier Without Wheat" is the best gluten intolerance/celiac book I have read so far. I would love to have a doctor who has gluten intolerance, at least they would understand what you are dealing with. My sleep doctor for sleep apnea, also has sleep apnea. He told me that often times doctors do have the same thing some of... -
ARCHIVED Omg! How Sensitive To Gluten Can One Be?
darlindeb25 replied to joyceelaine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The above response was to this: I know it has been investigated, this knowledge is from a doctor who is making it his life work to help those with gluten intolerance, a doctor whom I might add, is gluten intolerant himself. Any intolerance or allergy causes an immune response...that's what an intolerance or allergy is all about. Often times a gluten... -
ARCHIVED Omg! How Sensitive To Gluten Can One Be?
darlindeb25 replied to joyceelaine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is just as true when you have a gluten intolerance, and not "pretty much"...absolutely must be gluten free. Me, I need to be 100% gluten free. This is not completely true. Celiac disease is a tiny part of gluten intolerance. When you are gluten intolerant, and you eat gluten, you also have an auto-immune response to the gluten. The purpose... -
ARCHIVED Type O Blood And Celaic?
darlindeb25 replied to CeciliaCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I followed his book, I would be very ill. He recommends that Type A's give up dairy (which I didn't have to do until this year), and switch to soy...which makes me as ill as gluten does. Some of his thoughts are right on, yet just as many are off the wall. Take it with a grain of salt! -
ARCHIVED Type O Blood And Celaic?
darlindeb25 replied to CeciliaCeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, My sister the celiac is a Type A+, as is our dad, and myself. All gluten intolerant, and I am much more severe in my intolerance's then either of them. -
ARCHIVED Who Else Has Esophageal Spasms And Difficulty Swallowing?
darlindeb25 replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I did have one test done for Sjogrens/Sicca Syndrome. I have been told it's not the best test, and often comes back negative. I am bringing this up again with my PCP next Friday. Does anyone use Biotech Toothpaste or Mouthwash? -
ARCHIVED Disposable Razors Safe For Celiacs?
darlindeb25 replied to Afternoon's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I can't answer the ingredients question, but, I can tell you I am very snesitive, and have never had a problem with the strips on the razors. Some of the shaving creams bother me, so I stick to bath soap. -
ARCHIVED How Careful Do You Have To Be About Cc?
darlindeb25 replied to Jayde's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some people are much more sensitive than others. Yet, in my opinion, those of us whom are much more sensitive, are far better off. We will not touch the products listed as gluten free, which do still contain ppm (parts per million) of gluten. I also feel, just because you can eat those products, it does not necessarily mean you are not doing damage when... -
ARCHIVED Who Else Has Esophageal Spasms And Difficulty Swallowing?
darlindeb25 replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I do not eat processed foods. I am very limited on what I can eat. I do eat peanut butter, and I guess that could be called processed. I use Skippy Natural, 4 ingredients. I can't have pudding anymore, so cant test the pistachio pudding (dairy free). It is very scary. You either have to get the food to come up, or hope it goes down...sometimes, taking... -
ARCHIVED Wax On Fruit And Veggies
darlindeb25 replied to nauseatingnancy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well Nancy, thank you, it does bother me too. I read about strawberries being packed in straw and such, I don't agree with that either. I will not buy them now, unless I know where they came from, and such. We all have to think about these things, like it or not. -
ARCHIVED Who Else Has Esophageal Spasms And Difficulty Swallowing?
darlindeb25 replied to nasalady's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have this problem too. Have had it for years, there are certain foods that trigger it more so for me. People tell you chewing your food before swallowing is required. I hate when they say that, thinking they are being funny. I can have this problem swallowing pudding, and there is no chewing to it. Pistachio pudding, pineapple, and used to be bread... -
ARCHIVED Do You Get A Flu Shot?
darlindeb25 replied to luvs2eat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I never have, and probably never will. My PCP recommends we (he and I)don't even think about it until I am in my late 60's! As a rule, I do not pick up viruses, not unless for some other reason, I am run down...like a few months after I had my hysterectomy, I picked up a virus then. -
ARCHIVED Is Fresh Produce Glutened? Help!
darlindeb25 replied to ann72601's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is the dog's food gluten free? Does the dog lick your hands or face...I know many do? Could you be getting glutened from the dog? Have you checked your vitamins, any medication you may be on? Do you eat any processed gluten free foods? Crackers, breads, macaroni, spaghetti? Some of us super sensitives can't eat the processed foods. I keep... -
ARCHIVED Gluten/grain Free Supplements?
darlindeb25 replied to ann72601's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Country Life vitamins are certified gluten free by GIG. Some people love them, some say they react to them. I used to take their Vitamin B12, and did fine. I now use Jarrow Methylcobalamin B12 with no problems. Freeda also states gluten free. Just keep in mind, any product can be stated as "gluten free" even though it still may contain 20ppm or less... -

ARCHIVED Need Help Finding A Good Soy Free, Gluten Free Lip Balm
darlindeb25 replied to sylviaann's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm in peppermint, and I do not see any soy in the ingredients. I can't have soy, and I have never had a problem with this product. Which ingredient is soy? -
ARCHIVED Think I've Been Glutened, Please Check My Menu :)
darlindeb25 replied to tygwyn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know about Australia, yet here in the US, rye and barley are not required to be listed on the label. Only wheat, other glutens were excluded. Just keep that in mind. -
ARCHIVED Your Daily Vitamin Regimen?
darlindeb25 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the US, it's very rare to get too much Vit D, especially on the east coast. The pharmicist is wrong. D-3 is the best type of Vit D, yet it cost more, but why pay less for something that isn't working properly. Check out the Vit D Council's website: Open Original Shared Link I take: Nature Made Multi for Her 50+ Nature Made Folic Acid ... -

ARCHIVED Think I've Been Glutened, Please Check My Menu :)
darlindeb25 replied to tygwyn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
10 days is too early to be worrying. It takes time for your body to rid itself of gluten, 10 days is not enough time. In the beginning, you should stay away from gluten free processed foods. You need to give your body time to heal. Eat whole foods, potatoes, fresh meat, veggies, fruits, eggs, etc. The processed stuff can be too heavy, and just add... -
ARCHIVED How Long For B12 To Dissolve?
darlindeb25 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The longer it takes, the better it is. I take Jarrow Methylcobalamin 5000mcg, and it takes 20-25 mins...they say 40 mins is best, but it never lasts that long. Some people just chew them up and swallow them. There are many different opinions out there. Some say to take them on an empty stomach, I always take mine about 30 minutes after breakfast, and... -
ARCHIVED Pots And Pans?
darlindeb25 replied to nauseatingnancy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I can't use the same pans. When my daughter visits, I have a pan for her to use. Any scratches in a pan can collect gluten, doesn't matter how well you wash the pans. I am super sensitive, may not be the same for you. she uses seasoned salt on all her meats. If I use the same pan, doesn't matter how well I clean it, I get sick. It's not a teflon pan... -
ARCHIVED Chemical Sensitivities?
darlindeb25 replied to holiday16's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Our sensitivities seem to change over time. I was really bad for a while, everything made me sick. One night, I put hair dye on my hair, and then went for a walk on my gazelle, while waiting the time out before rinsing the dye out. I have used this same hair dye for years, still do. That night, while walking on the gazelle, I must have breathed in too...
