  1. I will let you know what he says on Thursday. I'll either be elated or pissed- both will motivate me!! I've already been recommended to see a rock-star hematologist in Atlanta by my wonderful GI doc, so if my allergist doesn't come through, I'll be looking in that direction. I've only read a bit of what's been recommended by you and Dr. Jess so far...
  2. THANK YOU Irish Heart and Dr. Jess! I look forward to convincing my allergist to test me on Thursday. Thanks to you both, I will go armed with scientific validation that MCAS exists and that I have many of the symptoms. Shellie
  3. Looks like I'll be scheduling in some quality time with my allergist- who is very nice, but I swear thinks I'm nuts. I thought yesterday that my larynx felt tight and I was getting hoarse- although no visible swelling in the neck or throat. My breathing was not normal, but that also happens when I get panic-y. I kept telling myself it was all in my mind...
  4. WaitinginDreams- I didn't think I had other intolerances either. But I definitely do! I went on for a year of being gluten-free without figuring it out. Can't seem to digest corn. Also, a fair amount of dairy gives me problems with C and a lot of dairy results in D- yikes. I was horribly bloated while I spend 5 weeks in a study abroad program in...
  5. Nvsmom- Do you get knots in your muscles on your sides when this happens? Just wondering if I can add something else to my list, although I kinda like the sounds of "Autoimmune Trifecta".
  6. eers- I think we may be Celiac-Symptom twins based on the hives post as well! I had chest pains for 10 years. 10 YEARS! It was attributed to GERD and I was on heavy meds for 6 years. Never had GERD, actually- just celiac. I still get pains in my chest and went to the ER one time because it was around the same time that I had a lovely allergic reaction...
  7. Hahaha!! I didn't notice, honestly! Irish Heart for the win....AGAIN!! Thank you so very much. I thought may be it was a combination of chocolate and the wine, but then they appeared without wine and I couldn't figure it out. This should be it. Today it must have been the two helpings of nutella and potato chips (almost worth the hives, really)....
  8. Hi Pondy- So glad you're feeling better! As you can see, everyone is different and what works for one person may not work for another. So for you and the other in this post that are still battling C, I thought I would also add my own story. I was gluten free for an entire year and still experienced bloating and C. I took probiotics and that helped...
  9. So sorry Survivor! As for the "Bad Air", I really have nothing, except maybe the mind is a powerful thing. Never discount the power of your mind and its effect on the body. If somewhere deep down you knew it wasn't right- it just sounds like your body and subconscious were ahead of you conscious mind. I hope you feel better soon. I got glutened from...
  10. Was it stomach bloating? Do you normally experience that with acid reflux or only with gluten? Does your GERD usually flare up when you eat gluten? Either way, it seems as though you're not ruling out CC. I swear that I got a case of cross contamination from salad that I put my own dressing on before. It was mild, but it DID happen. How the heck...
  11. Have any of you experienced hives that don't seem to be related to gluten? I've had environmental allergies all of my life- so I'm well versed in hives. For the past few months, they have been popping up in the same place (the sides of my face and/or neck- yesterday underneath my bottom lip) and I can't seem to find one singular reason. It is...
  12. IH- Thanks for tempering my alarmist reaction! I agree that these symptoms are not as concerning if Jen has already experienced them as part of her gluten reaction. It would worry me more if they are new and she did not have them as part of her reaction before going gluten free. Shellie
  13. Just reread another of your posts: slurred speech, clumsy, migraines. I don't mean to alarm you, but Please get to a doctor. Sirens are going off for me...
  14. Dear Jen, I sincerely hope these symptoms are merely being caused by gluten that is making it into your diet uninvited. However, if you don't find a source of CC quickly, please go directly to the doctor in case this has nothing at all to do with gluten. My husband has had some serious issues with his brain and I have seen many neurologists with him. Your...
  15. I'm a little over a year gluten-free. A few months ago,I realized that too much dairy has the opposite gastro side effect of gluten (gluten = C, too much dairy = D). But I have to have a lot of the right kinds of dairy to get to that point. Unfortunately hot cocoa with straight milk is out. Also just figured out that a lot of corn makes me terribly bloated...
  16. Hi All, Please forgive me if this is a redundant question, but it was very difficult to search the forum for this info. Does anyone know what seeing the Celiac Disease Foundation stamp on the side of a box really mean? Does it mean that they support the product or simply that the company has given money to the foundation and is allowed to put its name...
  17. Hahahaaaaa Bartfull! I can only think "vile weed!"
  18. Woo-Hoo! Go science!! So glad I posted this
  19. Hi There, Ajapeu- Just writing in to give you my support. I second Laura's invitation to an IM if you find yourself feeling particularly bad or just want more info. As P-of-P-Thinking wrote, your depression can be an actual symptom of the disease. That alone, may help a little bit. I too suffered from anxiety and depression prior to diagnosis and...
  20. Agreed, Mamaw! People in this forum are great and so very helpful. This site is also wonderful for many other reasons. I also don't feel alone here ...or crazy. I know I can post about my frustrations and people will understand. I know I can post some bizarre thing that my body is doing and someone out there has already been-there-done-that. Invaluable...
  21. Sorry if this is old news to any of you- but it's new to me, so I decided to share. This is my new favorite website about Celiac Disease. Lots of information in a concise and easy to read format from real, live, medical professionals. Must be nice to be a celiac in chicago with this resource! Open Original Shared Link
  22. don't forget nuts, assuming you can eat them. I recently discovered that nutella on potato chips is a gift from God. You may have to pack a bib for that one, though.
  23. Same here- anxiety for me is directly tied to gluten intake. I was seeing a therapist (who used to fall asleep because my issues were so boring- for real) before I got a proper diagnosis. Slowly, the residual feelings of anxiety subsided as I stayed on the diet. Mine was always worse at night. I stopped seeing the therapist soon after dx. The next step...
  24. Wondering how you are doing, Renegade. Have you been to the doc? Gotten any answers? Still having a hard time?
  25. Hi Shadow, I just spoke to my yoga teacher about doing a private session with me because I am so very fed up with how tight my stomach muscles are- even while stretching them in regular classes. I've had no surgeries. I do have random pains in my abdomen, but they are mainly concentrated on the lower left side. BTW, this isn't where my "tightness" is,...
