ARCHIVED Moving To France, Very Gluten Sensitive - Help!
surviormom replied to Carebear's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Stick to many of the tips we use here for dining out, and dining in. That is all I have. That is what I would do. No, the servers and chefs, restaurants will not be so easy to work with, but they do believe in fresh fruits and veggies. I have cooked my way through Julia Childs cookbook and now I alter a lot of it to fit my needs. It works. Order your...- 13 replies

ARCHIVED Greater "sensitivity" To Alcohol?
surviormom replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was a crown, wine, absinthe, jager, mojito, and martini sometimes drinker. When the problems started I was down to just crown and wine. Same thing here, one or two hits like four or five. -
ARCHIVED Greater "sensitivity" To Alcohol?
surviormom replied to NoGlutenCooties's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I experienced this too. When young I used to be able to keep up with the guys when I was out and about. Once married life slowed down, but I could still drink along with my husband. However, since going gluten free, no more. I can only have one or two drinks and I am done. I had even started getting night sweats when I drank more than two drinks, so... -
ARCHIVED Tips For Weight Loss/management On gluten-free Diet?
surviormom replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, that is the big problem with time. Building muscle takes time. Being a mom also takes time. I am mostly on the Paleo diet these days, mostly grain free. I do try for a higher protein count. Thank you for your suggestions. Starvation Mode is why we are on the side that is overweight. I understand it, perhaps waitingindreams understands it too... -
ARCHIVED Tips For Weight Loss/management On gluten-free Diet?
surviormom replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel your pain. I eat so little, it boggles my mind just how I do not lose weight, how can I possibly manage to maintain this weight? But, I feel that one of these days my body will start to function better and the weight will come off. Exercise may be a big component, I do not have a lot of time either. I did manage to drop 10 in the spring, but you... -

ARCHIVED 24 Hour Urine/follow Up Labs
surviormom replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Clear again. I pointed out that this was the third time this has happened and the time of day as well as his eating habits. The answers were just little pats on the head, and trust us, answers. Basically, he had not had enough to drink to flush it out of his system yet. No explanation as to why it was there in the first place. Do we all have them there... -
ARCHIVED 24 Hour Urine/follow Up Labs
surviormom replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That explains why he has NO fat. We do not really follow any diet except totally gluten-free in the house. If he is outside of the house as a party he may eat something gluten-free. I try to go paleo, but do not force it on the family, just the gluten-free is forced on the whole house. He eats well, plenty of meat, and veggies at dinner, lunch is 2 PBJs... -
ARCHIVED 24 Hour Urine/follow Up Labs
surviormom replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will check that page out Colleen, but to answer your question, no not yet. So far he passes on the second urine test. I think its because it is usually later in the day. He always has had a good breakfast before we go, but that is all, breakfast. I like morning appts. The return visits for the second test have been in the afternoon, works in the schedule... -
ARCHIVED 24 Hour Urine/follow Up Labs
surviormom replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not sure if this is a good place for this, but this is the third time, that in a check-up, my son, who is now 13, has to give a second sample. He had keytones? in his urine yesterday. It happened last year as well and the year before. So this is becoming routine. The number was low, so they want to check him again, same thing they said before. Before... -
ARCHIVED Gained Massive Weight In A Short Period Of Time!
surviormom replied to Mesadora's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Pretty much the same here, but I am dealing with the damage of years of not knowing what I was doing to myself. I knew something was wrong, but could not understand what, doctors would say eat more fiber, eat more yogurt, count your calories, etc. Now we know. We know better we do better.- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Started With Stomach Spasms & Internal 'throbbing' Again!
surviormom replied to flowerqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Spasms, throbbing, and gurgling are common these days with me, I bloated up over something. My guess in this instance is too much sugar and an over run of bacteria, but I take my probiotics every day, so I am not sure. I could have had an accidental CC. As I type this my intestines are talking, so yeah, it happens. -
ARCHIVED Keep Getting So Bloated, Dairy?
surviormom replied to megsybeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Not a doctor and relatively new to all of this (a year plus in healing, with mistakes), but I would say yes, toss out the coffee and sugar. I did. Back to the basics for me, is broth, lots of water, and green tea with a little honey. It is fixin' me back up fairly quick, and it gives me a chance to start again, adding foods slowly and it allows me to know... -
ARCHIVED Keep Getting So Bloated, Dairy?
surviormom replied to megsybeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is how I felt, only I called it pregnant again...I think so..it lasted about a week and half and it is working its way down. With a lot of bathroom issues to go with it. I feel like its another case of bacteria overgrowth, except I have been taking my probiotics on a regular basis, so I am not sure how bad bacteria could have taken over. That is why... -
ARCHIVED Keep Getting So Bloated, Dairy?
surviormom replied to megsybeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bloated now myself and I have no idea why, have gone through the foods I have eaten in the past 2 weeks and nothing sticks out as a danger, I have even re-read labels to make sure. All I can come up with is, too much sugar?? I made desserts for the kids several nights, and yes, I indulged each night too. It was a bribe, but it was there so why not... ... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Perimenopause
surviormom replied to alesusy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me too. It feels like I just gave birth some months. Its always been hard to get it across to the doctor just how bad it is, but he just did a vaginal ultrasound because my uterus is enlarged and found Fibroids, that led to a Hysteroscopy, still waiting to be told what he thought about that. I was sent home a little loopy, they will call in a day or two...- 24 replies

I think everyone has made great suggestions. He may still be feeling bad due to healing. My husband eats what I do here at home. When we go out we go to places that we know, I can have a gluten-free menu, or I can have good seafood/sushi or salad. Movies, Art shows, just walk and talk and hold hands is fun, boating, wave runners are a blast, there are... -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Suggested A Diigestive Enzyme ...
surviormom replied to FloB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was already taking TruFlora to heal my insides, but after a bacterial infection my GI told me to take Florastor as well, so two probiotics. Celiact, after looking over all of the vitamins and supplements I am low on, I was already taking supplements of some of them and I was low? So, I chose Celiact, reading the label I can see I am getting mega...
