  1. I would assume at some point it would become cheaper to have purchased a seperate toaster than to keep wrapping toast up to protect it from the shared toaster.
  2. I bought Tom's and am thus far kind of disappointed with it... so expensive, and it barely feel like it does anything. Though, I really liked the intensity of mouthwashes with alcohol or strong mint, so if you want a milder mouthwash, you ought to like it.
  3. It's Hannaford's store brand. Just heard back from the manufacturer; pasted below in case it helps anyone else. Dear Em314: We appreciate you taking the time to write in regarding Taste of Inspiration Greek Yogurt. All of our yogurts are Gluten-Free. Should you have any additional information please contact me at the number listed below. Again, thanks...
  4. There is also an older topic on a similar subject (the focus is more on "rescue foods") that you may find useful:
  5. I've noticed that this seems to be a common theme, but it also may just seem more noteworthy to post about a more severe reaction to gluten after going gluten-free than to post about an unpleasant but not especially spectacular reaction. Starting this thread in the hopes of pulling for the other end of the sample and maybe getting a more balanced perspective...
  6. Most of my local supermarkets have a section for special dietary needs, but none that I've noticed actually have a gluten-free section. What I *have* noticed is that the gluten-free sections are crazy-overpriced and I haven't really been shopping from any of them since before I got officially diagnosed (when my bloodwork had come back "probably celiac" I...
  7. I'm seeing a couple of topics about this from the forum pop up on google on an initial search, but nothing especially recent, and the non-message-board results are rather limited. I have a cat who actually prefers dry kibble to wet cat food (best I can figure is that's what he is used to), is fully indoor, and is adult/mature (10 years old). Am kinda...
  8. I've frankly been basically assuming the periodic low-grade fevers are from the celiac (I've eliminated most other obvious variables already and it seems like the simplest explanation). Before now, they were just another mystery thing my body did that was inconvenient and uncomfortable; I chalked it partially up to allergies/hay fever (which, for all I know...
  9. I have tried to find info on this and have somehow failed in my endeavor, so I'm hoping someone can link me to something. My question is this: Which of the symptoms of celiac are caused directly by reaction to gluten, vs. which are caused by secondary factors resulting from long-term gluten damage (ex. having a damaged digestive system, malabsorption...
  10. Thanks guys. I think I'm noticing some little improvements here and there- energy, pain, bloating- but there's a ton of room for improvement. I strongly suspect stress and acidic food are keeping these "symptoms" more present than they'd be otherwise. (I can fix the acid issue/WIP; stress I do the best I can to minimize but have a bit less control over...
  11. Oh, I kept meaning to update this- got "Alive" multivitamins and find them tasty, and just grabbed some Vitafusion multivitamins for when I run out. Am going with adult regular multivitamins because prenatal vitamins actually contain LESS of some of the vitamins I need. Also, I've been eating store-brand gluten-free chex a lot, and it's infused with vitamins...
  12. Some tips from a snow-driving veteran: Always keep emergency supplies in your car (trunk, backseat, whatever), both to deal with snow and related issues (ex. sand/salt/shovel/flashlight) and in case you're stuck awhile (ex. water/snack/blanket/book to read so you don't go insane- and always have your cell phone, obviously). If you haven't yet, make sure...
  13. Are they just burning, or actually infected? Could be perioral dematitis. If it is, an antibiotic will clear it up.
  14. ...so drink the coffee, but don't eat the cup?
  15. Thanks love2travel. That's about what I thought, and I do think I am already noticing a little difference, anyway. I have not (knock wood) yet had really extreme pain since going gluten-free, and prior it was happening at least once a week. So even if that's the only major difference for awhile, that would still be a pretty big deal for me.
  16. I know it was from April, but I wasn't able to find anything in the forum (or many other places, except what was already linked) on this topic since. I did look. And the FY2012 deadline was why I was wondering if anyone had any news- seems like there would at least have been UPDATES since April if they're behind their deadline (which always happens with...
  17. Only about a week and a half in with going gluten-free. Still having some stomach upset; I feel like it's already a little bit better but I may be imagining it. GI symptoms (including/especially pain) have been one of my primary issues. Anyway, my question is at what point should I switch from being patient to starting to suspect there's still gluten...
  18. Not to revive a dead topic, but I've been hunting through threads- does anyone know the status of this? The FDA web didn't seem to explain this to me very well (I did dig around- found some stuff but nothing substantial).
  19. The way my GI specialist put it, you can't be "a little bit celiac" the same way you can't be "a little bit pregnant." AFAIK, people can have different degrees of response from one another- and individuals can have different degrees of response over time, as well. She also said obvious symptoms of gluten reaction may appear "for the first time" (or get...
  20. Thinking about it, I was wondering something along the same lines- perhaps there is a more severe reaction when your digestive system has healed and is better able to absorb everything- including gluten. It is also possible that there's a sample bias on here with at least one of the following factors: -the people who post are the people who react most...
  21. If you're having this much upset about the dietary changes on a regular basis, and if this board isn't adequate to help with that upset (you'd be the best judge of that), joining a support group IRL, or seeing a counselor for a bit might help with the adjustment and the upset. It sounds like it would be very difficult to be that restricted, and extra support...
  22. This hasn't happened to be with gluten (yet) but I would not be surprised if it did. I was a vegetarian for several years, and I would often have dreams where I ate meat despite knowing I didn't normally do so. No such dreams since I went back to being an omnivore. If something's on your mind, you're more likely to dream about it, plain and simple...
  23. The endoscopy results confirmed celiac, BTW. I'm having my doc mail out the results (I don't doubt her, I just like having that kind of info), but she said that (IIRC, and I she RC) at least 4 out of 6 biopsies confirmed it, and the blood re-test confirmed it, too. I'm having a f/u with her in three months. She wants me to have one more endoscopy done...
