ARCHIVED Anti Bac Hand Wipes
Jen H replied to proger's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm not sure about hand wipes, but Purell antibacterial hand sanitizer is gluten-free. -
I used to get massive migraines before my diagnosis. I think my migraines were related to food. After about 3-4 months on the diet they finally went away.

ARCHIVED What's The Deal With Tomato Paste?
Jen H replied to Jodi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Amy's Tomato Basil sauce to make pizza and it's really good! It says gluten free on the bottle. You can get it at Whole Foods. I've never made a homemade tomato sauce before and would love to learn. -
ARCHIVED Fridge For Hotel Room?
Jen H replied to teankerbell's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Each time I stay in a hotel I call ahead to see if they have fridges in the room. At two of the hotels the concierge brought a fridge to my room free of charge. If you let them know you have dietary concerns, they usually are very accomodating. -
That's awful that you got sick again! It sounds like you did all you could to make sure your food was gluten-free. Is there any chance you could have other food allergies?

Thanks, Nini. I'll try the heating pad idea. Are those pretty typical symptoms of endo? I'm still new to it. By the way, I hope you're feeling better.

My vitamin D level has been way too low for almost a year now. I wasn't diagnosed with Celiacs until Nov. 05. I have been on 50,000 units of Vit. D weekly until this mth and my dr. dropped it to once mthly. My body is still not absorbing it. My dr. is still not sure what to do. My nutritionist suggested that I start drinking Tropicana with Calcium and...

I get pretty severe D every time I take an antibiotic. It's probably a side effect with most of them. Make sure you're drinking lots of water so you don't get dehydrated. Once you stop the antibiotics, hopefully it will get better.

For those of you with endometriosis, do you experience tenderness, fatigue, and nausea before and during your periods? If so, what helps you?
-
Hi, I had some blood tests for a physical shortly after my diagnosis and my calcium, vitamin D, and magnesium levels were all low. Since then I found out I have osteoporosis and take supplements for it.

Ditto on what Francelajoie said. If I eat out, I go to PF changs, outback, or legal seafoods. I do not eat out much, only because I haven't had good experiences. Are you new to celiac?

ARCHIVED Amy's Pasta Sauce
Jen H replied to bluelotus's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat their Family Marinara and Tomato Basil sauce with pasta and have had no problems. -
ARCHIVED Dairy Free And Gluten Free-want String Cheese
Jen H replied to johalex's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not sure about gluten-free string cheese, but I eat Cabot snack sized cheese. There's mild cheddar and extra sharp cheddar. You can find them with the shredded cheese in the supermarket. Cabot cheese advertises that all their cheese is gluten-free and has "0 grams of lactose". Maybe Cabot makes a string cheese? -
I tried the Lactaid milk and had bloating and an upset stomach after drinking 1/2 a cup. However, it was the first time I've had milk in 8 months. I'm going to try it again in a few months. If you are looking for a gluten-free Lactose free cheese, Cabot cheese is gluten-free. It also says "0g lactose" on the back of the packages.

ARCHIVED Heading To Whole Foods For The 1st Time!
Jen H replied to mrsnj91's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like the Whole Foods white sandwich bread and their tomato herb bread. -
Thank you so much for writing back everyone! I think my cyst may have ruptured a week ago today and then I had the ultrasound the next day. My doctor said she could see fluid in the nearby tissues, so she knows it ruptured. I was in pain and very nauseous for the weekend and Monday. On Tuesday I started to feel better and since then I've been improving...

Hi Jackie4, I was diagnosed about 7 months ago and felt so helpless after my first gluten-free trip to the supermarket. I have been sticking with a very basic diet of foods which I am sure are gluten-free. I tend to buy items which say "gluten-free" right on the package. I started to put together a binder and divided up the sections into gluten-free...

ARCHIVED Holy Day Of Obligation - Ash Wednesday
Jen H replied to penguin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi ChelsE, I think you need to do what feels comfortable for you. I have fasted in the past, but due to various health issues, I don't fast now. I know that sacrifice is part of the Lenten season, so I hope God will understand my choice. I just show my sacrifices in other ways. -
Last Friday I went to my OBGYN for an ultrasound due to pelvic pain. It turns out I had a follicle ovarian cyst that ruptured. I am still in a lot of pain, but do seem to be improving a little bit each day. Has anyone ever had one rupture? Do you remember how long it took for your pain to go away? I'm still very tender and sore. Normal?

ARCHIVED New Book: Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic
Jen H replied to celiachap's topic in Publications & Publicity
I just finished reading the book and, as a newbie to celiac disease, found it really helpful. It has a lot of info on different autoimmune disorders and how they connect with celiac disease. As some of the previous posters mentioned, it is very scientific and explains the genetics well, but lacks substance in real life application. -
I had a laparoscopy for endometriosis and it took me 1 month to completely recover. I was also dealing with undiagnosed celiac at the time, so I was probably not feeling great because I wasn't on the gluten-free diet yet. Good luck if you decide to do the surgery.

ARCHIVED Looking For A Pizza Sauce
Jen H replied to DavidB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anyone know whether Prego tomato sauce (traditional) is gluten-free? -
ARCHIVED Cancer Survivor- Now Facing Possible Dx Of Celiac....
Jen H replied to BeccaM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Becca, Glad to hear you're feeling better. This forum has helped me so much and I hope it helps you too. Feel free to ask any questions. I am pretty new to celiac myself (I was diagnosed 6 months ago), so I definitely don't know as much as some of the other people on the forum. Personally, I steer clear of oats. I went to a support group meeting... -
ARCHIVED Milk Substitute In Recipes?
Jen H replied to CMCM's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have used applesauce in place of milk in a spice cake before. It tasted really good, but that was in spice cake. It probably depends on what you're making. -
Man oh man! I've never even heard of these toaster bags! What a great idea! Thank you for sending the link. I'll give it a shot, but don't know if I'd get them in time. I know I sound psycho for wanting to bring my toaster with me, but I will also be in a hotel, and not sure whether one will be provided. I think I'm going to try to bring it with me...
