ARCHIVED Another Enterolab Question...
mmaccartney replied to kbtoyssni's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are already convinced you have celiac, then all the test would do is affirm your findings. I got the panel as I was 99.999% sure but still had trouble accepting it. Also, genetics were important to me, what genes did I have and what did I pass on to my children. In my case I have the dq2 gene, and my lucky children both got it to. What enterolab... -
ARCHIVED Whats Wrong W/ Me....seriously?
mmaccartney replied to linz7997's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to disagree, I did not find Enterolab to be pricey. Sure it costs $360 for the celiac panel "complete" however I paid more for my 2 endoscopies and colonoscopy let alone all the other tests I was given and had to pay 20% of......I wish I would have gone to Enterolab in the first place like I was considering....I think I paid more in the long run with... -
ARCHIVED I Wants Some Syrups!
mmaccartney replied to lightningfoot speakin words's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Last time I looked Mrs Butterworths didn't even contain any maple syrup.... get the pure stuff, it is the best. -
ARCHIVED Having A Meltdown...need Help!
mmaccartney replied to ilmotherof2's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'd have to agree. You won't find a great substitute for just plain bread. I gave up. I do use the bread mixes from 'Cause Your Special but only for "special" types of bread. For example when we have spaghetti ( Tinkyada pasta is one item that can be successfully substituted, it is better then wheat pasta IMHO!!! ) my wife makes a pepperoni bread out of hte... -
ARCHIVED Test Results In!
mmaccartney replied to sore joints's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your bloodwork is what my dr would call "funny" A positive IGG is not very specific, indicating it can be + for other things. Your IgA and your ttg are both "normal"; however it is possible you are IgA deficient. My bloodwork came out simliar; I had a + Iga, a neg IgG, and a neg ttg through standard serology. Through enterolab I had a pos Iga and ttg... -
ARCHIVED Do I Possibly Have Celiac?
mmaccartney replied to fuzzymonkey's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A food challenge can be very telling. If you cut out gluten and you feel better, that is an indication that you may have celiac or gluten intolerance. Yes, it can just pop up out of nowhere. I was 32 when my celiac triggered, surprised the heck out of all of us. -
ARCHIVED Fudge Bars, Raspberry Cream, Orange Cream
mmaccartney posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found the raspberry cream, and the fudge bars this weekend at a Giant Eagle. They are SOOO good! When I found out I had to give up dairy I never thought I'd have a fudge bar again. Open Original Shared Link There are also some Soy free varieties too Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Getting Impatient With Improvements...
mmaccartney replied to jabberwife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Give it some time. You should feel better after one month, but not 100%. For me it took about 6-9 months before I was back to about 90%. After one month I was still getting contaminated as I didn't have the diet down as well as I do now, and I didn't know I was intolerant to casein, which is why a food diary is highly recommended; there are probably more... -
Dealing with Celiac is hard, for everyone involved. I get very irritable when I don't get sleep, particularly when I have been glutened. I don't know how long he has been recovering, but his body may be healing and that takes a lot of energy! Two things that I tried while I was recovering in order to help my anger, and depression (I was stuck in a deep...

I wish you were in Northeast Ohio!! The worst part was that I was going to a new Dentist as my old dentist (who would have been fully cooperative with me as they are great) wasn't covered under my new insurance. I'm actually thinking about skipping the insurance next time and just going with my old dentist.. BUT I do have a question! Being a Dental...

ARCHIVED My Husband Has Been Glutened.....
mmaccartney replied to swittenauer's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The only effective remedy for me is...to wait it out. Sorry! Pain pills help with the pain I get in my guts, and arthritis. I never feel like eating, and the lack of energy feeds the whole emotional reaction as well. My reactions last 3-7 days in varying degrees and types of symptoms. Emotional symptoms can last longer. For example I got glutened... -
I think I'm jumping in to this discussion quite late. I can relate to the gluten rage issues. It was consuming me for some time. Now that I've been off gluten and casein for about one year, I am that happy person again. I still get angry, but not like I used to. BUT, when I get glutened, out comes the anger again. For some reason my wife gets the...

I recently stayed at the Westinn Harbour Castle on the waterfront in Toronto. It was pricey, but was excellent. -
ARCHIVED Galaxy Soy Parmesan Cheese Topping
mmaccartney posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
WOW I'm glad I saw this. I've had this topping in the past and it was so good!! I was just about to get some more too... ARCHIVED Soymilk Products
mmaccartney replied to Shelley Gunn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hold on. If the product contained Wheat, and it was hidden in Natural Flavorings... If you are in the USA, they are in violation of the new food labeling laws (Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA)) that took effect Jan 1, 2006. The product would have to be manufactored on or after Jan 1, however with soymilk I would suspect... -
ARCHIVED Butter Substitute
mmaccartney replied to jmengert's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
we use Earth Balance. It tastes alot like butter, and cooks in almost anything. It is soy based though and some people have problems with soy... -
ARCHIVED Bacon
mmaccartney replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It really depends on the ingredients, and the manufactoring process. If you have plain, unaltered bacon you are probably safe. I use Sugardale peppered bacon, have not had a problem. However if you get something with any seasonings you have to check! The best advice is to always call the company, or talk to the butcher. Don't forget cross contamination... -
ARCHIVED Got Dd's Enterolab Results--can You Help?
mmaccartney replied to Sally's Mommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What I can tell you is this: Positive IgA = response to gluten. Negative ttg / neg malabsorbtion = no actual damage to intestinal villi as a result of gluten sensitivity HLADQ2 Subtype 2 is a Celiac gene. So, it appears to me that your daughter (what does Dd mean anyway?) has active gluten sensitivity, without actual damage being caused...yet. With... -
ARCHIVED Need A Substitute For Cheese
mmaccartney replied to ArtGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you can tolerate Soy... We use two kinds of soy cheese. My children like Tofutti slices, but they haven't ever had milk cheese. I don't like it much. We also use Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourmet Cheese Alternative. This stuff I really like. They have a Monterey Jack, Nacho, Chedder and Mozzarella. I haven't tried the nacho or chedder yet. We use... -
ARCHIVED Jell-o Instant Pudding
mmaccartney replied to Green12's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many of us have problems with casein as well as gluten, perhaps that is why. We eat Jell-o pudding all the time, but just the chocolate and vanilla non-instant kind. I find that the instant kind doesn't work well with soymilk. -
ARCHIVED Travel In General
mmaccartney replied to goodwitch's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I travel quite a bit, both in the US, and internationally in Canada and the EU. I happen to be very sensitive, so I do NOT eat at restaurants. I think the last time I ate at a restaurant was over 4 months ago. In fact, I am traveling right now. I am in Toronto for 7 days total. I brought a cooler full of goodies, a big plastic container full of food,... -
ARCHIVED How To Handle The Ups And Downs?
mmaccartney replied to Stacie H.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Boy, you and my wife need to hook up. When I was sick, I was mean and unfortunatly she was the center of it. I almost lost her, thankfully we found out what was wrong and am getting better. When I do get glutened now, I can see that I'm overly mean and angry about whatever is happening. I can see it now, and change the course of action. Back then I didn't... -
ARCHIVED Baby Born With Active Celiac?
mmaccartney replied to Satori's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Don't feel bad! You did everything you could. There are so many things out of our control with this disease, particularly what will or won't activate celiac in our offspring. I understand though. My children don't have active celiac, but did inherit the genes for it. Now it is just a matter of time... But, if you still want good chocolate frosting... -
ARCHIVED Cherrybrook Kitchen Has Delicious Mixes!
mmaccartney replied to nicki2222's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use their chocolate cake mix quite a bit!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't care too much for the frosting, or the sugar cookies, but that chocolate cake mix is the bomb!! Not only that, it is SO EASY to make!!! I think you add oil and water mix and bake! It is so good to find something that is so simple to make, and tastes so good. So many of our foods are difficult... -
ARCHIVED Disappointed With Wild Oats Market
mmaccartney replied to marciab's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What a disapointing visit Sorry that happened. The Wild Oats by me is great!, Very clean and smells good too. The gluten-free section is a bit small, but to even have one aisle in the store dedicated to gluten-free is a start. I've also noticed that they only put products that are intended to be gluten-free, like Cause Your Special, Glutano, etc...
