  1. It will be interesting to see how it ties in. I don't think celiac will be a major part of the plot though. Some of the symptoms described in the Fox link could be celiac, but this statement wouldn't make sense if it was celiac: Time will tell!!!!
  2. Based on US food labeling laws, products manufactored on or after Jan 1, 2006 will label Wheat in plain english. This also applies to all 8 common allergens: milk, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, and soy. BUT the problem for celiacs is that Rye and Barley are not required to be labeled, and *could* be hidden in Natural Flavors. Typically...
  3. We get chocolates from this place: Open Original Shared Link I live nearby and have spoken with the owners. They are quire serious about dairy free, and gluten free as well. My children are allergic to milk, eggs, and all nuts. I can't have any milk or gluten and their under diagnosis for celiac, but are still gluten-free at this time. We...
  4. OMG!!! Sounds like one of my nightmares!! I'm not a violent person, but I would have been taken out by the police after I punched that idiot in the face several times!!!!
  5. Be knocked out. The endoscopy was not fun, I woke up twice during it, and it was terrible. I felt like I was choking due to the tube in my throat. My instinctual reaction was to try to "cough it up" and that just got the med staff yelling at me to "swallow, swallow" then I heard the doc mention something about more anestesia, and I was back out again....
  6. You child shoud be checked for IgA deficiency. This could be the cause of the neg IgA and pos ttg. I will tell you that either way, with the positive ttg the ped GI will want to do an endoscopy and obtain biopsies. Only my IgA blood test was pos, ttg was neg. Stool test (Enterolab) showed both positive. As far as your kids, it is your call, but here...
  7. There is also Jell-o Puding vanilla and chocolate flavors. Probably more. I can't have Dairy so finding a butterscotch pudding with no dairy was a delightful time!!
  8. I just bought new "grills" for my grill this week!! Another question though... so I replaced the metal bars that the food sets on. In the bottom of the grill is the drippings from gluten and dairy containing items. Do I need to worry about those drippings heating up, becoming airborne and contaminating food..???? I don't look forward to scrubbing that...
  9. There was a thread about casein being used in commercially available waxes used on fruits and veggies. Here is the link: Open Original Shared Link Check out that topic, I posted responses from FAN, some FDA links, as well as some information from Whole Foods regarding this topic... I did find out from FAAN that they have had no reports of allergic reactions...
  10. I have casein intolerance as well as Celiac. I found dairy harder to give up then gluten, but over time there aren't many things that I miss anymore. How do I "deal with it". It is kind of hard to explain, but I will try. Over time my brain and body have somehow worked together, and when I see things I cannot have (like pizza, bagels, lasagna, etc...)...
  11. When I contacted the company, they did indicate that this is a new product introduced this year. As such, it is required to follow the US labeling laws when sold in the US. Still, we contact the company, and they confirmed that this product is indeed gluten/dairy/egg/nut free. Also, it passed the MacCartney liptmus test... no reactions from anyone in the...
  12. I will have to give sweet baby rays a try, it seems heavily endorsed here!! Are there certain flavors that are or aren't gluten-free / CF ??? BTW: I use Daddy Sams. It is a sweeter, tangier BBQ sauce then most, but is just AWESOME!!! Open Original Shared Link
  13. If you can handle Soy, try Turtle Mountain Soy creams!!! Open Original Shared Link Please note that some of their "purely decadent" flavors (like the chocolate brownie) do have gluten in them. Though they test their products (ELISA test) for gluten, and other allerges, I have had reactions to their specialty flavor lines(particularly the Cherry Vanilla...
  14. I've made them many times, they come out just fine each time. I cannot recall the instructions, but I know that I always replace butter with Earth Balance, eggs with Ener-G Egg Replacer, and milk with Vanilla Silk Soymilk...
  15. When this thread started I contacted Whole Foods about it. Here is their response, just came in today!
  16. Did the prednisone help any?? It's a general steroid that typically suppresses immune responses. they had me on 20mg twice a day for a while, and it did abate the symptoms and hence the pain... not something you want to tak every day for the rest of your life due to other side effects.
  17. For most people, I just tell them that I have food allergies. This keeps it short, and simple for them to understand. Some people want to know more, then I tell them about celiac.
  18. I agree 100,000% This disease sucks. I'm quite lucky that I found out so quickly what was wrong with me, and credit goes to my wife for her "off the wall" suggestion to try going gluten free, not the doctors in any respect. Though it was caught early on, my symptoms are extreme and I can see (well feel is more like it) alot of damage was done from when...
  19. I don't kiss my wife unless she has had no gluten for that day. She has good oral hygiene, so I know her mouth gets cleaned at least in the morn and night. It takes some intimacy away, but so does my reaction....
  20. Wow, keep us informed! This is typical of social security, it takes at least 2 denials, then an attorney (at your expense) to get any $$ out of the gov't for social security disability. What kinds of symptoms do you have that your neurologists feel so strongly about? I haven't had many noticeable cognitive issues, mine seem to be all physical... My...
  21. Why won't they cover it??? If a doctor that is part of their "plan" deems it as medically necesarry, aren't they required to cover it?? (Mine did, but I still had to cough up 20% of the cost as I have an 80/20 plan....)
  22. Exactly, they don't get to have "us" we do! Willpower? Perhaps for some. When people make that comment to me, I tell them "It's not like that. I don't crave things I cannot have. My mind and body have gotten used to it." Then they look at me even more funny, and then I tell them "Did you ever touch the stove when you were a kid? You learned, real...
  23. I've never been asked about disability status before. It was mentioned before that the US Military does consider Celiac a disability. Those with celiac cannot be put into "unfreindly" sittuations. e.g. Iraq...how would they safely feed you?? As far as general. I believe it to be a disability, someone did call the ADA once and they got a yes answer. ...
  24. Sorry to hear you are in such pain. Been there, know what you are feeling. You've been gluten-free for a while now, your sig indicates 2003. Have you continued to have symptoms since going gluten-free?? Perhaps you have Refractory sprue. My understanding is that this form of celiac doesn't go into remission with the gluten-free diet.
  25. Saw my GI doc. He was impressed with the Enterolab results, and indicated it confirmed Celiac diagnosis. He also had the standard anti-gliadin IgA be positive for me, and witnessed my response to the gluten-free diet. He didn't question enterolab one bit. He was quite supportive of it, as was my childrens pediatrician. They are more mainstream then I...
