ARCHIVED Pre-school
mmaccartney replied to buddhasmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think it is totally reasonable for them to ask you to bring meals and snacks from here on out. We did this for our children in pre school. Now that the oldest is entering school we have him on a 504 plan. It is for his peanut allergy, not celiac though it can still be applicable. we will always supply their meals and snacks. I actually prefer it that... -
I'll be gluten-free one year one week from today! And, for the most part I feel one thousand % better now. No real symptoms unless I get contaminated; save for my arthritis. Yes, extensively. I've replaced all my kitchen equipment, there is no gluten or dairy processed in my kitchen. I've screened all my soaps and the like. I eat very little...

They also make several good "yogurt" flavors. I've had their Key Lime, Strawberry Banana, Black Cherry, and blueberry. They were all quite tasty -
ARCHIVED Sweet Baby Rays.. So Is It gluten-free?
mmaccartney replied to skinnyminny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey, thanks! My grocery store doesn't have Daddy Sams anymore (ben my fav for a long time) but they did have sweet baby rays. I didn't get it as I recalled reading about it here but couldn't recall whether it was good or bad. Any info on other allergens in it?? Milk, eggs, nuts? -
ARCHIVED Silk Soymilk
mmaccartney replied to CarlaB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Silk all the time. I've not reacted, and they do indicate gluten free on their labeling. I haven't read Dangerous Grains, just got done with Dr. Greens Celaic book...will read that one next! -
ARCHIVED Hypostugar Stuff + gluten-free Food For Road Trip!
mmaccartney replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know much about sugar issues, but for me fresh fruit travels well apples, pears, bananas, etc. If you can have nuts, get some planters peanuts or other nuts. Potato chips don't always travel well, but they fill you up. POPCORN!! Pop some up before you leave and put it in a big bag. If nothing else, it is a good filler. Have it with or without... -
Sorry I missed your first post!!! I do have simliar reactions. "Sulpher" burps is a good way to describe them. I start getting those about 2 hours after gluten/casein ingestion. Later D and throwing up which lasts for 3-4 hours and then the burps stop. In fact, I know when the reaction is subsiding as the "sulpher" burbs go away!! That's always a sign of...

Thanks for the reply Judy! Well no anesthetic at all. I was only getting a routine cleaning w/ flouride treatment. The part that frustrates me is that I called ahead to have them check, they said the assistnant checked and everything was just fine for me. Further, the receptionist, the assistant, and the dentist all had conversations with me that day...

I went to a new dentist on Wed. I've not been to a dentist since I started getting really sick in 2004. I did my research on this board, and called ahead to inquire as to their cleanings "stuff" and the flouride that they use. I was reassured that there was no gluten or dairy in any of their supplies, including gloves. When I went in, I had to fill out all...

Thanks for the feedback! I do take the steroids during my flareups, and they do indeed abate the arthritis symptoms, the main problem for me is that the steroids take about 2-3 days to truly roll back the pain to a managable level. For those first 2-3 days, the pain is excruciating and unbearable. That's where I'm looking for relief, just for those 2-3 days...

I'm from Cleveland OH area, but cannot locate any Gastroenterologist and Rheumotolgists that can treat me as a team, and have knowledge / expierence with Celiac. The main problems are that 1) My GI doc doesn't know a lot about Celiac. As such, it is up to me to tell him that I'd like to have my nutrient levels checked to ensure that I am eating properly...

ARCHIVED A Little Help With Enterolab Results
mmaccartney replied to arial12bold's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My home is 99.99% gluten and dairy free. I got rid of almost all my cooking instruments (pots, pans, utensils, etc.). There was a handful that I kept, the stainless steel ones. All plastic, wood and teflon went out. Replaced all of it. Call me paranoid, but after how sick I was (People at work and home were seriously wondering how long I had to live) it was... -

ARCHIVED A Little Help With Enterolab Results
mmaccartney replied to arial12bold's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Now that I have hindsight, I can see symptoms of gluten intolerance / celiac disease all the way back to childhood. I recall many many many trips to the school nurse after lunch due to tummy aches. I never could drink much beer without getting sick, but I sure could hold my liquor! My symptoms excacerbated after minor surgery in 2003. I suffered until around... -
ARCHIVED A Little Help With Enterolab Results
mmaccartney replied to arial12bold's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Enterolab claims that their tests are accurate "up to one year" on a gluten free diet. I was on a gluten-free diet for about 7 months, and a diary free diet for about 6 months when I tested, here are my results: Fecal Antigliadin IgA 52.5 (Normal Range <10 Units) Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 20 Units (Normal Range <10 Units) Quantitative... -
Eating gluten almost killed me. I would starve rather then eat that poison again. There is always something one could eat...roots, berries, animals, etc.

ARCHIVED For Those With Gluten Tolerant & Intolerant Family Members
mmaccartney replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My home is 99% gluten free. I am the only person in the house with active celiac disease. There are a few treats for my wife and children that are in the house, but they are never prepared in the house, opened or ingested in the house. For example, Soy delicous makes a great ice cream sandwich. The only problem is the sandwich part has wheat in it. I... -
ARCHIVED I Went Into Anaphelectic Shock Yesterday...
mmaccartney replied to shai76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
We've got the same kind. Again, we haven't used one on a person, but when they expire we "test" them on oranges and other items. That way we (and others) get a feeling for the amount of force you need to use to administer the medicine. It is surprising to note that not much force needed to be used! I always pictured myself giving my son a huge bruise on... -
ARCHIVED I Went Into Anaphelectic Shock Yesterday...
mmaccartney replied to shai76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My son is anaphylactic to Peanuts and Tree nuts. We have an Epipen Jr, but have not yet used it. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO USE YOUR EPIPEN!!! We used to be very afraid to use it, would it hurt him, what would happen afterwards, how long in the hospital, etc. One time he got some milk (which he is also allergic to) while eating. His throat started closing up. My... -
I've been gluten-free and DF for almost one year now. This Spring I was hit with the sinus infection from hell. It started after a common cold. First round of antibiotics only set it back for about 2 weeks. Second roud set it back for about 4 weeks. Third round finally cleared it out. Since that time my sinus' have been clearer then they have been for years...

ARCHIVED For Those With A Casein Sensitivity...
mmaccartney replied to lorka150's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My casein reaction usually starts about 2-4 hours after ingesting it. Sometimes, if it was late at night that I ate it the reaction wouldn't start until early mornin, like 4 or 5 am. -
ARCHIVED Suggestions For Gluten Free Hors D'oeuvres?
mmaccartney replied to Kelly J.'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My all time favorite, and easiest to make are water chestnuts wrapped in bacon. Get whole water chestnuts, wrap each one in 1 strip of bacon and stick 'em with a toothpick 30-45 minutes at 350 F should do it...just make sure the bacon is cooked all the way! -
