  1. My Rheumotlogist has brought up Fibro several times to explain the pain and discomfort that isn't centered around my joints. For example, my forearms, thighs, shins, etc. The joint pain, for me, is arthritis which is related to the celiac disease. everyones different though! Arthritis and Fibro are always present for me, however theey get MUCH worse...
  2. Starburst, laffy taffy, airheads, dum dum brand suckers all gluten, milk, egg, and nut free.
  3. I eat their chocolate and vanilla all the time. I reacted once to the cherry nirvana. I suspect that for those flavors in the "smaller" containers they have shared lines. I know they use the ELISA test for their products, but for me that still doesn't cut it. The tiniest bit sets me off.
  4. I use their Sour Supreme all the time and haven't yet had a problem. I'm really sensitive too. Just a few weeks ago my sons were eating a soft pretzel and we shared a bag of chips (my mistake) and that made me sick! I haven't tried their ice cream, however they do produce soy ice cream sandwiches which have wheat in the cookie portion. This is enough to...
  5. I haven't tried making fudge...even when I could have dairy But, these people make the best gluten-free DF and nut free fudge I've found! Open Original Shared Link
  6. I like to make them with fruity or cocoa pebbles!
  7. We didn't feed our children baby food either. The best thing you could do is to: 1) Learn how to "can" food in small jars 2) get lots of small jars for baby sized portions 3) get a food processor 4) Make your own baby food, "can" it into the jars, and there you have it. Gluten free baby food!!! We didn't get into canning any of the food, but...
  8. Certainly a doctor could order the test for you, I've read some posts where that has happened. How the billing works out for that one, I am not sure. I do know that they will not charge insurance companies, one must pay up front and then file with the insurance company. You'd have to check with them to be sure how it would work out for billing.
  9. There is a PF Changs in Beachwood, right off of 271 at Chagrin. I don't do much restaurants, but I know that one.
  10. Ummm.....and why can't he "go away"??? I did the same thing last night, but my wife left me alone. In hindsight, and after reading this I ask my self the same question, why didn't I tell that I needed to be alone and then leave the room myself? it's a 2 way street!
  11. I too thought it only applied to employees applying for group health coverage, however in my post ( Open Original Shared Link ) I have a direct quote from the US Department of Labor website that indicates differently. Here is the DOL link again Open Original Shared Link Scroll to the bottom of the page, read the second to last FAQ. It appears that if a...
  12. in the US Natural Flavorings can mean any ingredient that has been approved for human consumption by the FDA. So what's approved? I'm too scared to look.
  13. I eat their rice noodle bowls all the time. they are great in a pinch, and I keep several in my car at all times. Even better, at a store by me they are 99 cents each!!! Be careful though, not all of their products are gluten-free. They make a hot & sour rice noodle bowl that is NOT gluten-free. Their garlic, and spring onion are gluten-free, and...
  14. My understanding of the current disability laws, and the status of celiac as a disability lead me to take the position that the school must recognize celiac as a disability, and as such develop a 504 plan if the family requests it. The first part of the 504 plan is an assessment by the school if the child qualifies as disabled, and based on the definitions...
  15. I second Ursulas suggestion regarding Enterolab. Both of my children have the DQ2 gene. they both seemed to show symptoms. The traditional Celiac Panel showed that one had an elevated anti-gliadin IgG, but nothing else. Enterolab showed negative across the board (anti-gliadin and anti-casein IgA, and ttg) which was quite reassuring. I do plan on...
  16. I thought HIPPA only applied to group coverage and employers, but that might not be the case: From Open Original Shared Link Sounds like you might qualify!! I would call the insurance company back and tell them that you qualify under HIPPA for protection from denial of coverage, and pre-existing condition and see what happens. Sometimes the threat...
  17. Did you doc test you for IgA deficiency? You can be IgA deficient and your anti-gliadin IgA will be negative. Other tests (IgG, ttg, and others I can't think of right now) might have told a different story. The Anti-Gliadin IgA test is highly specific, but not highly sensitive. Meaning that a positive is most likely gluten intolerance/celiac (This is the...
  18. I thought this might help. Here is a few days excerpt from my food diary from January of this year. I was keeping track of my symptoms, medications and food. I didn't address soaps and such, though I should have. This particular set of log entries showed me that some flavors of the soy dream ice cream I was eating were most likely cross contaminated; and...
  19. I found it to be well worth it. I "knew" I was at least gluten intolerant. I thought I was lactose intolerant. My biopsies all came back negative; my bloodwork only showed a "slightly positive IgA" My tests showed not only positive IgA, but also positive TTG. Pos ttg My casein test showed that I was casein intolerant, not lactose. ...
  20. As mentioned before, in the USA you can deduct the cost difference of gluten-free food versus "normal food" as long as you meet the 7.5% of your AGI criteria (which almost none of us would based on food alone). For example, say gluten-free bread costs $5.00 and "normal" bread costs $1.00 you could deduct $4.00 you would need to keep all your receipts though...
  21. Great to hear the positive side! It looks like he has been gluten-free for about a month; it will take time to heal and feel better. I've been on the diest for just over a year and I do feel about 90% better. It took about 2-3 months on the diet before I really started feeling better.
  22. Wow, I had no idea ordering your own tests would be illegal. Seems strange that my insurance company would pay for this type of test then, but it wouldn't be the first strange thing they've done. Seems odd for the gov't to restrict commerce like that. After looking briefly, are you sure about the illegal status? Open Original Shared Link it seems...
  23. Newmans Own Balsamic Vinagrette is gluten-free and Dairy Free. It is good and should be widely available. Open Original Shared Link
  24. Actually this school is being quite helpful, even the administration at the school system board is being quite helpful; and they agree that a 504 plan is "the right thing to do". We chose to use the 504 plan for several reasons: 1) The 504 plan will follow our son through all schools that he attends. 2) Other schools might not be as willing to work...
  25. The school *should* accomodate. However there are options to force them to accomodate. Do a search on this forum, and on google for "504 plan". There is a Federal law (in the USA) that requires schools that receive Federal funding to accomodate people with disabilities. Celiac can be considered a qualifying disability under the current statutes. we...
