  1. Welcome!

You can list your personal website/link on your personal profile page, but not in your signature or post page.

We try to maintain a solicitation free Board for the convenience of the membership as they seek information regarding Celiac Disease and it's associated issues.

If you would like to advertise on this site, you must contact the Administration.

And, I would like to add, THANKS FOR ASKING :)

  2. I don't necessarily think that you have to find a dentist who knows about Celiac. I just educated the one I had, whom I have a good relationship with. Taught him everything he knows ;) .

  3. I am just starting at this --trying to eliminate gluten and lactose. I have some info, but can't seem to get complete info on drugs (RX and OTC) re. inactive ingredients (which may have gluten or lactose). Seems every time I turn around, I find another thing I thought was OK, but isn't.

Someone said soy is bad. Is this true?? All soy, or just soy milk?? <_<

Any info on drug lists and food lists would be very helpful. Or any other hints on getting started, as my Dr. seems to know very little!! :)

    thanks

    martha

But, of course, the disclaimer is to always verify for yourself whether a product is safe to consume. The responsibility ends with us. :)

Most doctors know very little. This site if full of all the information that you may need. Take a look around and welcome!

  4. I was just at the store to pick up my favorite snack, the 88% dark chocolate endangered species bar. Glancing at the label to compare it to the other bars, it appears that they changed everything.

Their bars are now produced on shared equipment with dairy. On the website it doesn't mention anything about it, though. I went ahead and emailed them to see what's going on but I'm already bummed.

Even worse, I went ahead and ate one anyway and I'm extremely irritable right now. That's one of my usual primary dairy'd symptoms. I'll feel like I don't belong in my own skin and get very uncomfortable which makes me irritable.

Many of the Endangered Species Chocolate Bars are gluten free to my knowledge, but I have not read every label. Perhaps, I don't understand something. I would assume that there has to be some dairy even in an 88% chocolate bar.

  5. I'm looking for gluten free restaurants or places to do my grocery shopping in or around Chincoteague Island, VA. We're leaving tomorrow (Sunday), but I will have the internet for the whole trip hopefully. Any info would be appreciated. I'm insanely nervous. This is the first time I've traveled anywhere outside of Disney since being diagnosed 4 years ago.

    Hi Angie!

Any broiled seafood should be good after talking to the manager/server about your needs.

People in this neck of the woods will plop hushpuppies or a roll on top of your meal (even though it may not be on the menu) so make sure that your server knows no bread products of any kind.

My husband always tells our waiter that I might not make it out the door alive if there is any bread near my meal. It gets their attention, but they watch me while I eat the whole time.

It's a beautifu place and your kids will love the ponies. Have a wonderful time.

  6. I was well into my gluten free diet by four to six months, when started having issues again.

I concluded that dairy was my issues. I went very dairy light for a month or two and then added it back. I have no further issues.

Sometimes, a gluten response has a very loud voice and when you take gluten away, other smaller voices can be heard.

You are wise to go back to the simple.

BTW, if that is your child in your avatar, he/she is stunningly beautiful!

  7. So I can deal without cake and cookies and everything, but what about ice cream? I have some organic vanilla ice cream that I'm not sure about. Here are the ingredients, are they okay? Thanks for the help.

    Ingredients:

Organic Skim Milk, Organic Cream, Organic Sugar, Organic Egg yolks, Organic Vanilla Extract, Organic Vanilla Bean Specks, Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum.

    Enjoy ;)

  8. YES

    Here is the list.

Ingredients: spices, (including chili pepper), enriched wheat flour, (flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, and folic acid), onion, salt, maltodextrin, sugar, garlic, paprika, and extractives of cumin.

I will make my own from now on. Here is the recipe I use. I either got it from here or from Recipezaar, sorry, but I can't remember.

Taco Seasoning Mix (or I use it for chili)

    1 T. potato starch

    1 tsp. chili powder

    1 tsp. paprika

    3/4 tsp. salt

    3/4 tsp. onion powder

    1/2 tsp. cumin

    1/2 tsp. garlic powder

    1/4 tsp. sugar

    1/8 tsp. pepper

Mix and store in a jar.

(I double the recipe and store in a shaker bottle)

Thanks for posting your recipe. Sounds great! :)

  9. I recently switched chili seasoning brands to McCormick w/o thinking to check it until I got home. Also, FYI, Durkee brand has wheat too.

The mild chili mix has wheat. I will be making 3 pots of chili today <_<

    1) no wheat-dd

    2) no meat-dd

    3) for me/dh to eat with wheat and meat to use up the McCormicks, then I'll go back to using the homemade I was putting in my dd. Things will get less confusing...

Is wheat listed on the ingredient lisitng ?

  10. I had written a post asking why anybody would take up smoking again, but I deleted it. I just want to say that if you are worried about glutens in cigarettes...you're worried about the wrong thing. :(

As a smoker for thirty years, I just passed my one year anniversary cigarette free August 6. I certainly can see the humor in this post. :D

I had no ill gluten effects from smoking and no gluten (or lack of) response from not smoking. Snuff may be a different story - don't know about that.

  11. brizzo,

I am sorry that you feel that way.
