Have a great one Nikki!!!!

Hi I 'm new here! It's awesome to finally meet people who are just like me. Being celiac my whole life, no one could really relate to me at all. But now, being a silly yak(lol) isn't so bad after all.
And hello back to you! Welcome... If we can shortened you name it would be easier to respond. WITSB?
You found a great site, and celiac all your life you have wondeful experience that you can share with all of us and especially the newbies.
And we can really be some "silly" yaks. Welcome to the club.

I know it's bad for you in general, but is Corn Syrup any easier to digest then whole corn?
Dreyer's Fruit Bars have corn syrup in them and I need a treat sometimes.
Corn syrup is not a gluten concern, unless you have a corn concern.
Hope this is the answer that you wanted.

Nodding my head as to understand,
but glad there is work in progress.

Thank you to everyone!!! You have all been such a HUGE help while I was learning about celiac pre-biopsy and questions that I have now after going gluten-free after my biopsy!!!
I don't know what I would have done without this board!!! Thanks to everyone!!!!
Pay it forward

Yep--I see the icon for it. When I click on it, it wants me to click to 'go to the download page'. When I do, nothing happens.
Yup..Scott must have a different format than us. ( and talking like I know computer stuff and all
)

My guess is that you are seeing a browser feature and not a forum feature. I do not see it and don't believe that the forum has a spell checker built in.
Take care,
Scott
Humm.. My PC has a spell check on my tool bar. (found it Betty). But the site definitely has a spell check icon, as I am viewing it as I speak. I know nothing about computer software, but perhaps your format may be different from ours, as the owner/administrator. This is not something that I will loose sleep about.
Anyone else see a "ABC spell check", in the upper right? Not a great issue for me Scott, without my spell check on my PC, I would not visit here. There was a five year avenue in the 50's when they taught "sight" reading, and I fell into that clump. That would be me.

Oh so jealous! But, what a wonderful experience.

Sound like you have a great doctor. I like his recommendations. In regards to your question, I don't think there is a stock answer to the healing process. Everyone is different.
In my case, it took about two months to really see a significant change.
I would suggest keeping a food journal. It really helps to identify foods that can contribute to symptoms. As well, make sure that you have checked your lotions, shampoos, lip balms/lipsticks, shaving cream (forgot to look for gender) i.e, anything that can get into your mouth.
Gluten can hide every where. Have you done a kitchen check - pots/pans, wooded spoons, toasters, baking dishes, cutting boards.
Your body may be going through some gluten withdrawal. I don't recall that, but other have had noticeable symptom.
Again, you body is going through changes and the bottom line is to detox your body of all gluten and it will take some time to heal. It took you a while to get to where you needed a biopsy. Likewise, time to heal itself.
A true gluten free diet and time are the keys here. Hope you feel better soon.

As far as I know there isn't a spell checker on this forum...where do you see one?
Take care,
Scott
Scott,
When I post a reply (as in now) there an "ABC-with a check sign", icon on the upper right of this page.
You can't see it unless you are typing a reply. When you click on it, it will ask you to down load. I have not done that.

Interesting Nancy. I know another Celiac person whose first and main symptom is a migraine that can last for days.
-
Sound like you need some antibiotics. Go see a doc.
I don't know whether is is celiac related though.

Welcom to the Board Lins!
This diet is very confusing in the beginning. Feel free to ask away.
Modified food starch (in the US) is general corn derived, unless it is listed as Modified Food Starch (wheat).
Oat are not recommended because of the potential of cross contamination in the processing.
There are many cereals that are available (I don't eat cereal, but others will post).
Dairy often causes problems in the beginning and it is recommended to be dairy light of eliminate it all together and re-introduce it after you have healed.
Don't forget to check you shampoos, lotions, lipsticks, etc....any thing that can find its way into your mouth.
The diet is hard in the beginning, but soon it will become second nature.

Hugs to you Susie!!!

I just found a list on "about". Check it out - Rye extract & wheat extract and flour were listed.

I've smoked for about 18 years - can't seem to make the decision to kick it for good. A funny thing happened when I read this thread. I realized that I'm more afraid of gluten than the hundreds of carcinogens in cigarettes - rediculous, I know. Now, I may have a good enough reason to quit.
This may be the push I need.

Anyone have documentation that there is gluten in cigaretts? Just curious.

There is a list of safe products...click on the site index and scroll down.

Thanks -it's good to know others have had multiple things turn up in the biopsy. I also tried searching the fora, but wasn't getting references to hernia and the esophagus.
I'll back away from the general internet searching though! I think that's the right thing to do.
(It's amazing. I generally feel fine, but as I'm trying to type, it's *really* hard. Must be the left-over demerol in my system. Now I know why they said don't make decisions for another 12 hours. I'm so glad someone esle could me drive me home.
You will feel some much better in the morning. I had to ask my husband about 20 times what the doctor said. After a good night sleep and knowing that the proceedure is over....every thing is uphill from now. Consider this a new beginning toward health and wellness.

Has anyone sucessfully used the spell check on this site (on the upper right of this page). Mine appears to be inactive. Any thoughts?

So, I survived the scope and biopsy (which is hurting more than expected now that I'm awake). The gastro gave me three pictures of "abnormalites" from the procedure. I've been trying to look them online, but am getting progressive more freaked out/confused.
I think picture #2 is suggestive of celiac disease, from what I've read, in combo. with my symptoms and position tTG (35).
1. Hiatal Hernia
Cardia
2. Mild scalloping of folds
2nd portion Duodenum
3. salmon coloured mucosa
Distal Esophagus.
The info. online I was getting mentioned survery for #1 and cancer for #3. And the gastro actually wanted to see me agan within theweek. Which is rare.
Has anyone these come up in their endoscopy results?
Don't jump to any conclusions and go easy on the internet searches, they can scare the crap out of you. I also had the hiatal Hernia, scalloping folds and gastritis.
Spend your time here learning as the scalloping of the duodenum indicated that you can set up camp here.
I'll step aside for others. Stay cool

My turn,
When my first was born, she became my "sweet baby goose", with number 2, I had geese. Hubby started to call me Momma Goose. There ya have it.

True wine does not have thickening. Any meat that contains wheat of any kind is required by law to list it as an ingredient.
Swanson's Beef and Chicken broth is gluten free as well as HerbOx bouion. Certain broths do contain gluten and you must read the label carefully.
And regarding the Pepto, it may ease some stomach cramping, but as Sunny said, it cannot head off the reaction that will cause intestinal damage.
I'm still amazed some of the misinformation out there. But, glad you asked. This is a great site for facts.

I think that your posts are just awsome, and I think it give all of us a added perspective to the people behind the words and not just an impersonal computer screen. We are real, tangible people who share a common interest.
Thank you all for taking the time to post. It's all very cool. I think many have enjoyed this.

Welcome:
Wow, you were diagnosed in 2003 and is it safe to understand that you have not been on the diet?
Well, here's a start -- begin with meats, seafood, rice, potatoes, fresh veggies and fruit in as natural form as possible. Stick with just salt and pepper until you know what seasonings are safe.
Limit your dairy for a while or eliminate to until you have healed.
Make sure that your lotions, shampoos, lip balms and meds are gluten free. Stay away from gluteny toasters or get your own. Be careful with scratched up cooking ware, old wooden spoons and chopping blocks - gluten can hide anywhere.
Reading here can be the best help available. Good luck
