  1. But if you were just following the diet for the heck of it why would you say I'm allergic to it? I do see your point though, I didn't think of that.

Oh, not doubting the wheat allergy. But the comment about "who isn't these days." bristled my back a bit.

  2. Hey everyone,

I was watching Six Degrees last night and all of the sudden one of the characters asks a reporter if he would like a cookie and he responded with "I'm allergic to gluten" and her response was "who isn't these days". I was like so shocked it was on there. It definititely seems like its being recognized more on tv.

Recognision is good, but I thought that was a snotty comment. Many people that I know, are going gluten free because it's the "New Fad Diet".

The up side of that is that the more people go gluten free, either by necessity or by choice, the food industry will hear.

  3. I have been gluten free for almost two years and I am just now discovering that I react to dairy. Our bodies just do strange things sometime. I was fine with dairy until now. I think that my body just wants something to complain about.

Try to be as dairy light as possible and see if you feel better. Or, you can elliminate it all together and then do a challenge and you'll have you answer.

  4.

oh no! Your poor husband! Poor you! I feel awful. I hope he gets better soon. Thanks for the restaurants! You are the bestest!!!!

 Isis is the Egyptian God of Domestic Tranquility. We have have a statue of Isis. Last night he reached over it to turn out a light and he knocked it over and it broke. So much for the domestic tranquility for now!!!

  5. I am looking for the names of some gluten free friendly restaurants in Philly. I will be there on Sunday for the Franklin Institutes display of King Tut. We are going to be there around 1ish and would like to have a gluten free place to have an early dinner. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Only for you this late for me:

    Barclay Prime 732-7560

    Bliss 710-1101

Buca di Beppo - gluten-free menu

    535-2818

    Buddakan

    574-9440

    Capital Grille

    545-9599

    Chart Houuse

    625-8383

    238-1000

Enjoy for me. The husband just knocked over and broke Isis. Not a happy camper

  6. Actually, depending on the source, I think it's 'malt' vinegar specifically that's wheat derived. Maybe it's a wierdo mayo brand?

Malt Vinegar is derived from barley, NOT wheat. She listed white vinegar, not malt vinegar...there is a world of difference.

I also have a hard time with raw onions. I have an issue when I brush my teeth before I go to bed, there is always a raw onion reactions. Need I say more..

  7. How long have you been gluten free? In the early stages it is best to be dairy feel as well. I have been gluten free for a year and a half and now learning that dairy is an issue.

Dairy is difficult to absorb in the early stages of going gluen free.

Not familiar with you scrib, but is is gluten free and perhaps dairy.

  8. I love shrimp boiled in Old Bay Seasonings

Eat warm and dip in butter. Serve with steamed broccolli w/Kraft ranch dressing

    ------------------

Shrimp Kabobs, with pineapple and onions and peppers brushed with La Choy Terriaki Sauce- Grill

    ------------------

Shrimp Casserole, chopped up shrimp, crab meat, Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup, pimentos, bake and top with gluten free bread crumbs or crushed potato chips when begin to get bubbly or brown on the sides.

There are more..... Just call me Bubba Lisa Gump.

  9. I keep checking the food lists just in case they add new brands. I think all of them have been listed, but I am still not feeding my dogs and cats canned until I know it's safe. I have a 16 year old Peke who is having trouble chewing the dry right now. I am using the puppy's (5 Months old) dry for her right now and giving her people food to suppliment.

I was thinking about going gluten free for them. I am presently using IAMS. What brands do you suggest? My husband usually feeds them and has not had any problems yet. I told him I would feed them from now on. I never associated animal food with gluten until reading about it here.

:o I was shocked to hear about the rat poison. Just glad they have a cause and can straighten it out. My heart goes out to anyone who has a pet sickened from this terrible thing.

Try to moisten the dry food with warm water or and egg. It would make it easier to chew.

  10. My husband has been gluten free for a year. I am careful not to leave any gluten crumbs lying around or anything else that might hurt him. I have been on NutriSystem to lose weight (they supply my food), so I do eat gluten and have been since he started being gluten-free.

Recently, if I heat up a dinner in the microwave or cook oatmeal or boil noodles he says he feels like he has been glutened. I am not doubting him, I am just trying to find out how common this is and if it will go away. This has come on gradually and now I cannot heat something in the microwave for even 1 minute while he is anywhere near it.

If I have to go off my diet (I have lost 60 pounds) I will. In the meantime, I would like some feedback about this if anyone else has experienced it.

    Thanks for your help.

I feel that he is being obsessively cautious. You need to reclaim YOUR life. Gluten free is not that big a deal. I am questioning how he "feels like he has been glutened" by smelling oatmeal or pasta cooking. STAY on your diet. It is adaptable. for both your needs.

I would recommend that you read as much as you are able on this site. It is a wealth of information.
