If you are waiting until Wed. for your biopsy, perhaps you did your self a favor. Although you are in discomfort now, it may relate to your biopsy.

Please ask the endo guy/girl to take six to eight biopsys in various locations in your small intest. It will give you a better dx.

Although uncomfortable, keep eating gluten stuff, as it will show a more accurate test.

    Let us know............ :)

  2. Welcome to the Board:

Let me begin that celiac has over 200 symptoms, and you have listed a number of them, which may a indicate a strong possibility.

There are two ways to determine Celiac:

    1. Go on an exclusive diet that totally eliminated 100% gluten from your diet. Use the results to determine your positive or negative response.

    2. Continue to eat gluten and get tested, either through blood work, or an endoscopy exam.

When a doctor indicates that you have IBS.......often it stands for "I Be Stumped" (at least around here :) )

I am glad that you have found us. I know you will find a vast amount of information here. And really good people that have been where you are now.

    Keep those questions comm'in :)

  3. Jame:

Posting twice as I did not answer your question. I had gerd ALOT and it has appeared to have gotten better since gluten free. I do have a large hiatal hernia, so I still take antacids, which most likely the culpret and not celiac.

Try going 100% and check your personal products and make sure they are safe and gluten free. If you try for a month and see improvement, your in good shape.

But, if you choose to be tested, do NOT go gluten free. It will throw off you dx.

I hope that all these good people have been helpful to you. And, as always, feel free to ask away.

  4. Welcome Jane:

I am glad that you are feeling better eliminating bread. Celiac Disease is complicated in the fact that it is very difficult at first to identify gluten. Wheat can be in soy sauce, lipstick, shampoos and every where you never would have thought. Gluten consists of wheat, barley, malt, rye and many oats.

Those of us with Celiac Disease must eliminate all gluten in our diets.

I would encourage you to read many of the posts here. I am sure that you will find it very informative.

  5. I glutened myself four weeks ago and I am finally back to normal. I experienced fatigue and brain fog but I was still able to function. The brain fog was not nearly as crippling as it used to be. It is probably safe to say that if you keep yourself healthy that any accidental glutenings will decrease in severity. However this could vary from person to person.

I have had similar reactions. And I also will agree that it varies widely.

  6. MG:

Yup, any ingestion of gluten will cause damage and slow the healing process. Often, gluten is in the last place that you would look.

I generally buy McCormicks spieces, as they will always list and their natural species generally will have no gluten. But, as always, read the labels.

Once you get a handle on reading lables, it's down hill from there. (And always remember, ingrediences change. So what you bought a year ago, may not be the same as today). That is something that I have to constantly remind myself.

Make a small change and get to that 100% :)

  7. I worked on the Rock the Vote campaign when I was in college. This was a cool link. Let me know if you make a video.

I could not display the site, but just a little advise here....sex is always funny here, religion and politics.......well, tread lightly. Ya know what I mean :o

But every one who has an opinion, should vote. :)

  8. Susan:

Everyone reacts differently and you will not get the same personal experience from others.

I have , with great attempts, to be totally gluten free for well over a year.. I do know how difficult it is to be 100%, so there have been issues along the way.

I do know, for me, that the longer I go being gluten free, I do not react immediately (other do). I believe that it is the healing that I have achieved, and I do not show symptoms. But, that does not mean that I am creating damage. For me, it has to build up a bit for the symptoms to be very noticeable. When I ingest, gluten, I have a very dry mouth and have trouble choosing the correct words...that's a dead give-a-way for me.

You will not have a-cross-the-board answer to your question. You just have to know your own system to get you answers.

I hope that this has been helpful and I answered your question
