  1. I do not know the difference between the effect of intolerace, but the effects are the same. I don't know of any rare condition that will trigger Celiac. To my knowledge, the symptoms are the same and the diet should be treated as the same. If your body cannot handle gluten, it just can't handle gluten.

I am sorry that you have gone throught many doctors, but the same story is played out here on this site every day. We have all had that experience.

If I can suggest to you, go totally gluten free for a month and see if you see some sort of improvements. For many of us, it has taken almost a year to be free of symptoms...but in the short run, you may feel some improvements with in a months time.

Ursula is correct, there are no stupid questions here. We all started at the beginning. So hammer away with the questions. :)

PS: Gluten free, means checking shampoos, soap, lipstick or any mouth contact that you have.

  2. Your body needs to adjust. It all depends on how bad the intestinal damage is/was. Even though you may be gluten free and dairy free, you insides are still damaged and it will take some time to heal itself.

For headaches, I take aleve, and for stomach upset, it take zantec 75 or 150 when the bloating and gas gets bad.

Healing will take quite sometime depending on your damage, sometimes up to a years time.

Healing is a slow process and it will not happen over night. Be patient with your self and take every day as it comes. Make sure that you check your soaps and shampoos and facial creams that they are not gluten.

Just remember, that it took a long time for the damage to occure, it will take some time for the healing process to happen. I was dx in August and I try my best to be gluten free and at home is a non issue, socially it is very hard for me.

Good luck to you and please always feel free to ask away. We have all been there and one's experience is anothers knowledge.

  3. Bless your heart, you spell like me. :) El Paso Taco Shells work for me. As posted today, use the package Taco mix, that does not come in the preprepared box with seasoning inside. You will be fine. But, I would advise, not to get into the spicey stuff too soon if you have been eating just salads.

Salads are sometimes hard for me to digest.. For a while, I would stick to potatoes, pan fried chicken with salt and little pepper. Apple sauce, white rice, or brown rice if you have the big C.

I think that you must have your lap-top attached to your hip bone. :):)

Please help us know a little about you, where you are with your symptoms, what you are eating and why you think that this is a celiac problem. If you have posted before, I may not of seen it.

With a little bit more information, yes we can be helpful. I am sorry you are so much in pain, but without more information, we can't help you trouble shoot your distress.

Please post more, so we can be of help. Lisa

  5. Dinner tonight:

Not kit mix but individual packet (not in a kit) says. Old El Paso

Maltodextrin, Chili Pepper, Salt, Onion Powder, MSG, corn starch, garlic powder, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, silicon dioxide, ethoxyquin. - no wheat flour in the seasoning mix (not in boxed).

Apparently, they are different. Confusing though. B)

  6. I don't know much about children with Celiac. But I do know this...keep her on gluten and lots of it before you take her in on Wed.. It is fare bet the she is Celiac. Not being a doctor, I will leave that job for him/her.

Please ask your doctor to do a full blood pannel for Celiac.

Let us know about the test results.

I wish you well and your little one. Lisa

  7. Don't worry.... help is here. I have learned everything about Celiac here on this site. You have come to the right place.

First, stay away from natural ingred. until you know brands of foods that will list them. Kraft is good for that.

The CSA product list is VERY conservative, they list with the utmost reserve. What you see there is very accurate.

With hopes, soon, someone will post to you the Delfi Product List. It is about 79 pages of products listed by brand names which will make it easy for you until you learn to identify products by ingrediences. (I am computer dumb and can't do it for you). It will be a God-send for you. Stick to the list until you learn more about what is safe an not.

Please know that Celiac is not just about food. Check Shampoos, Diod, make-up, face cream. Think about every thing that can get into your mouth.

To start you out, try: Dove shampoo, Dove Soap, Crest Toothpaste, Bert's Bee's lip glosses. Lubridurm lotion

I know, because I have been there as well as everyone here how overwhelming it is. And I do think that it is harder with a child. The responsibility is pretty touch.

Please read here as many post as you are able. It is the most valuable resouce you have. All your answere can be met here.

This will get better and you have support here. Ask away. Lisa

  8. Lister:

Stay Calm, first of all. Stress can agrivate your symptoms no matter what it is.

I just wanted to tell you that after a biopsy, I went gluten free, changed doctors and was given a blood work up for IGA, ect three weeks later and my blood work was neg. The endo, indicated major blunting of the villi, which confirms Celiac.

Your blood work may not indicate Celiac, because of being gluten free, and the lack of testing of the full panel.

Hope you get the news you want.... Lisa

(With a smile on my friendly face....ease up on the wtf, we have kids who post here....thanks.)

  9. Good golly ianm, you're givin me a headache :P

    Welcome Superjoe:

First of all, welcome to the site and we are glad that you found us.

Eating out and at friends homes are always a challenge unless they really know what you are dealing with. I have a problem with that as well. I have the restuarant stuff down, although boaring and blah food that you have to pay for and others are chomping down on sauces and spieces. It's not much fun.

I live in a small town and the gossip spreads pretty quickly. Everyone thought that I was anorexic, so now the word is out that I have an eating disorder (far from the fact), but some are understanding that it is an allergy (also, far from the fact)....intollerance is the word

Give it some time to learn about the diet, check your shampoos, deoderant, toothpaste....anything that can get into your mouth. Celica is not just about food.

Post her as often as you need and I would encourage you to read the many posts. You will gain a great amount of knowledge....and our motto is, there are no dumb questions.

  10. I have never liked bread before I was dx, so the toaster is not an issue for me. (But, I watched my husband crunch on a piece of wheat toast, and it really did smell good - I just stared at him)

Back to the point...My daughter and husband leave bread crumbs all over the kitchen. I wipe it up and go over it with a clorox wipe, or anti-bact wipe. I wash kitchen towels almost every day as well as washing my hands often. It seems to do well by me.

  11. As stated, check your shampoos, soap and anything that can get into your mouth.

to start you out, I use:

    Dove shampoo

    Dove Diod.

    Dove Soap

    Crest Toothpaste

There are other that are gluten free, but this is a quick fix. Ask someone on this site to send you the Delfi Forum Product list.........that will give you all sorts of gluten free products by brand name.

Learn as much as you can, and do searches on this site and you will learn and enormous amount of information about what is safe and what it is not.

Two weeks is just the beginning. Welcome to to forum. This site will be a life saver for you, just read, monitor and read somemore. Everything you need is here.

Good luck and keep posting. Lisa
