  1. I am really confused about this topic string. One post says unilever said they put gluten back into their mix and another post says autolized yeast regardless of where it comes from is safe. Is there perhaps another ingedient that unilever is talking about??? Plese help if anyone has gotten through to Unilever

YES, it is very confusing and it will take some time to even understand beyond the basic label reading. Reading labels is a 101 class. Interpreting labels is a 501 class.

Lipton Onion Dip and Mix is Gluten Free. It is the ONLY Lipton dry mix that is gluten free.

Some ingredients, although derived from a wheat/barley/malt byproduct, will be processes to the point that they are rendered gluten free.

But, by law, they need to list any one of the eight allergens. Therefore, wheat may be listed on the ingredient listing. Although, Unilever will list ALL forms of gluten to include barley, malt or rye.

..confused yet? Hoped that helped and not to confuse you more.

I find no issues with Lipton Onion Dry mix and have used it for years. In fact I did call Lipton (Unilever) and they gave the the exact ppm...maybe I can find it.

  2. The purpose of this Forum is to do just that...share and vent at times. Feel free to do both.

The Gluten Intolerant Group, Celiac Sprue Association and the Celiac Disease Foundation all have have local support groups. Perhaps you can find one in your locale.

  3. Hi,

I need help. I am pregnant again and am craving apple pie. Do any of you have any suggestions for pre-made gluten-free frozen apple pies and/or crusts that I can fill and bake? Or bakeries that may be able to ship apple pie to me? I am so desperate that I would actually settle for any type of fruit filled pie at this point!

    Thanks a bunch!

    J

I don't know what part of the country you are from, but Whole Foods have frozen pre-make pie shells.

Or you could contact the Gluten Free Galley. I understand they are working of mixes. Open Original Shared Link

Apple crisps can be made with crumbled up cookies. And there is a recipe floating around here for an apple crisp (or other fruit) using Pamela's Yellow Cake Mix.

    AND Congratulations!

  4. Hi everyone,

I know this has been addressed her ad nauseum over the years but I need a quick answer: are ALL Suave products still gluten free? Or at least clearly marked? And would anyone know if their Coconut conditioner is safe? If not, that'll teach me to switch off from using my tried and true vinegar rinse just 'cause my hair suddenly decided to become like straw...

    !!!

    Thank you for any help!

Listed on the FAQ for Suave ( a Unilever Product - the good guys)

    Do your products contain Gluten?

    Answer:

Products with any wheat, rye, barley or oat-derived materials are labeled with the names of those derivatives. Hydrolyzed protein from wheat, rye, barley or oat may contain gluten.

We recommend that you consult with your physician as to whether your exposure to grain derivatives from the use of personal care products will cause the symptoms of Celiac-Sprue Disease.

Lisa, the ingredient listing will be clear if added gluten. I, myself, am not worried about hydrolyzed protein from wheat, rye or oat, due the excessive processing. But, you, as a super sensitive may be. It should be clearly listing on the label (just bring a magnifying glass with you). Can't read those labels in my advancing age :(

  5. I've been wanting to make a reference card for people when they ask what I can't eat or most especially, for use in restaurants. I think I've finally got things narrowed down enough to cover everything but would really appreciate opinions from people who've got experience (i'm not gluten free quite yet, still waiting on the biopsy). The exceptions list came from the Dummies site.

    The contents:

I cannot have anything with wheat, rye, barley, malt or flour in the ingredient name

Exceptions Alcohol (distilled), Caramel color, Citric acid, Dextrin, Flavoring extracts, Hydrolyzed plant protein (HPP),Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), Maltodextrin, Modified food starch, Mono- and diglycerides, Starch (in food), Vanilla (extract), Vinegar (except malt vinegar),Wheat grass,Yeast (except brewer’s yeast), flour where source is specified

Please make sure my food does not touch anything that has touched a gluten containing item to avoid cross contamination. This include washing hands before changing to new gloves, getting new utensils for making my food, and washing down the grill.

    Check out...

  6. I'd appreciate such a list if you wouldn't mind pointing me to one.

I would recommend www.CeceliasMarketplace.com for annually published product guide. I will try to purchase from companies such as Unilevel, that will always list all forms of gluten on their ingredient listing

    I use daily:

    Lubriderm Lotion

    Mary Kay Lipstick

    Chapstick

    Pantene Shampoo or Dove

    Crest ToothPaste

    Tone Soap

  7. Hi All,

Just wanted to know if when you are diagnosed with Celiac do you really have to avoid gluten even coming from shampoo, conditioners, body wash, lotion, hand sanitizers and even make up? Anything that touches your skin? Thanks for your replies!

With Celiac you have to be careful about what enters your mouth. Along with that concern, are lotions, lipsticks and even shampoos that can get into you mouth when you shower.

Some people with a wheat allergy may have issues with topical gluten, but generally with Celiac Disease, you must ingest gluten to react.

If you would like....we can get you started on some generally available brands that a considered gluten free. :)

  8. The Dr Oz show is the one I saw. They're running repeats all summer.

I got glutened from something, so when I wasn't able to figure it out..the envelopes made sense.

I guess I have a bit more detective work to do?

I believe I saw the Dr. Oz Show about Celiac Disease (a portion of his show). His script was dated, inaccurate and he had no business spouting professional knowledge on a subject his staff had not researched adequately! I certainly expected better.

Gluten can be a mischievous kind of thing. Sometimes, we never can pin point the source. But, it keeps us on our toes though! And that's a good thing. :)

  9. It's a myth. It's gross to lick them. I always use a little piece of wet paper towel. Dr. Oz had someone on the show that wasn't any kind of expert on Celiac and he made several mistakes.

    here's one article

Answer: No, there is no gluten in envelope glue, according to the international Envelope Manufacturers Association. The Association's website says: "Remoistenable adhesives are derived from corn starch and do not contain wheat or rye gluten."

Yup Ditto on the Envelopes.....not a worry, but still yucky.

  10. Okay.....yer I've-submerged-my cellphone troubleshooting guide.......

    1) Remove cellphone from water source (washer, sewer, public toilet, etc.)

    2) Immediately remove battery from phone

    3) Lay both phone and battery out to dry.....several hours

    4) Re-assemble.

    5) Everything should work....

Yup....done this successfully a few times. Drunkedly, angrily.......... . it works..... B)

    Hey Em!

    Pooping in here randomly...

Put unfortunately dunked cell phone and battery in a bag of dry rice. Rice will pull out the moisture. I have seen this procedure often in this house, but not MY phone :D THEY swear it works.
