  1. i consider myself pretty with it, but those insurance statements are so confusing to me I am very thankful to have really good insurance because it's outrageous to see the charges. The Celiac Disease Comprehensive Panel from LabCorp I had done in December was $651, and the Vitamin D was $273. The insurance paid $82.71, and my final cost was $5. I have...
  2. this has been a looooonnnnnggggg week, but a good one! Went out with a guy the other night and it was going really well. After dinner, second time at PF Changs!!, he tried to kiss me but I had to kill the moment and say sorry I can't kiss you because of what you ate, and oh btw I have celiac disease. Awkward... However he seems to have passed the celiac...
  3. I have one of these, and they are awesome!! It is great that I don't have to worry about using a microwave at work where people use it and don't clean up their messes I started making soup once a week since New Year's and then I take it in this little container heat it up and I have a safe, nutritious meal. This week's soup was a kale, onion, potato...
  4. if you have ShopRite near you they have a great selection and are much cheaper than other stores I love the Trader Joe's vibe and prices but since there have been several accounts on this site about people getting sick from their store products, I won't chance it, so I save up and go to Whole Foods.
  5. I agree with Laura, if it works for your child, go with it! The following two links include prominent doctors, Dr. Green and Dr. Fasano, in the world of celiac research, and here's what I'm gathering from reading these abstracts...although autism and celiac disease do not seem to have a link, it does appear that in some with autism the body responds...
  6. so I bought some of their make-up too, which came last week. I know you can buy their eyeshadow at Target, but I really wanted to try their mascara, so I bought this kit: Open Original Shared Link It is fantastic! The eye shadow stays all day and looks just as good as when I put it on in the morning. Although the mascara brush is a little too thick...
  7. It looks like the old AGA test was run. Are you able to call the doctor and see if they will run the newer more specific test for celiac called the DGP (Deamidated Gliadin Peptide) IgG test? Low total IgA levels can happen in 2-5% of those with celiac. Check out this link: Open Original Shared Link Since your daughter is IgA deficient, all of the...
  8. ok so the doctor said pretty much what I thought he would say but actually didn't mention a thing about the gallbladder. He said we can do a CT/MRI of the pancreas and small bowel, and that the malabsorption can happen from celiac itself or pancreas problems. He also said something I didn't think about because the fat isn't being broken down initially then...
  9. this new abstract in PubMed discusses DGP IgG in regards to non-responsive celiac disease and their diagnostic value: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24392888
  10. it's like deja vu reading these studies because they all say weight loss and the big D as symptoms of pancreatic insufficiency <---not for this girl It reminds me of when doctors say you can't have celiac if you're not emaciated and having the big D. I'm one of those overweight mostly reformed big C types. Other things align with what I've been...
  11. that blog is great! especially the picture the that says "When someone apologizes for eating gluten in my presence" with the "I don't care" in the below picture. I know family and friends think they're being helpful when they make that apology, but really I want to unleash and tell them I really don't care that I'm not able to eat that because then I would...
  12. Can't Stop-Maroon 5
  13. fantastic news from the feeling better to studying nutrition
  14. so I love a good BuzzFeed list every now and then, and I just had to share this one. I especially agree with #19 Open Original Shared Link
  15. Welcome! It sounds like you're describing me around last year at this time. At my first GI appointment, the GI started to suggest more fiber and water. I'm no longer super emotional since going gluten-free, but when he suggested that I started crying and said please don't make me take any more fiber. I was doing everything exactly right by the book...
  16. thanks, everyone! I've also come across that it could be gallbladder related as well, but I'm skeptical. I had a family member who had her gallbladder taken out at a young age, but she also was in so much pain. I had a gallbladder/liver ultrasound last year that came back normal, and I don't have any pain in my gallbladder area. I have never gotten...
  17. I posted this in the thread I've been keeping on my gluten-free journey but wanted to post it here as well to get some input. Earlier this week I got my LabCorp results from a fecal fat test that my GI wanted done since my Vitamin K is still low. Thankfully, it was the test where I only had to give one sample vs a 72-hour bucket of fun It did come...
  18. had my yearly ob/gyn exam this week, and I mentioned the change to the doctor. She agreed that with better nutrient absorption, it is entirely possible
  19. I'm a fan of magnesium! I'm a big C sufferer. I tried Metamucil pre-gluten-free, but found that no matter the copious amounts of water I drank, I just got more bloated and it felt like I was carrying a brick in my stomach. Here's my not so brightest moment but it really made me think...I poured some Metamucil down the drain once because I was being...
  20. I love the convenience of KIND bars, but I gave them up for awhile because I felt I was finding way too many nuts in my stool and they made me really bloated. I reintroduced them, and they made me much less bloated, but still slightly, so I wanted to see if the bars were made on the same lines as their oat products since I had a reaction to gluten-free oats...
  21. I haven't gotten a call from the GI doctor yet, but I did receive my lab test results online today. Standouts are chloride is one point low, and glucose is one point high. Both are one point, so I don't consider it and am hoping it is not huge deal, but I will be more mindful of my sugar intake because that was a fasting result My stool tests confirm...
  22. I e-mailed Pacificia the other day and wanted to share the response I received: Hi ******, Thank you for your interest in Pacifica. I am sure you are just going to love our products! We are a vegan, cruelty free AND gluten free company. None of our products contain gluten. Enjoy! Best, Lisa Pacifica Customer Care 3135 NW Industrial...
  23. Hi Reena, and welcome! I'm a little short on time, but here's what I can add for now. First off, am I correct in thinking that you were off gluten 4 months prior to these blood tests? If so, the results may be invalid...more on that later. it looks like the newer combo of the TTG IgA and DGP IgG was performed, but I'm a little confused because...
  24. a lot of my symptoms came and went, which completely added to my confusion. How could something be wrong one week and not the next? One of my most frustrating is that I am a musician, and freshman year of college I started reacting to my nickel/silver mouthpiece. I went to my GP and he prescribed an anti-fungal cream, attractive I know , but it made it...
  25. ive been super strict about my diet, but I finally entered the weak postive range on my blood tests after about 9 months. I honestly thought I would be in the negative range because I have hardly eaten out, am very careful about CC and all my personal care products are gluten-free. Everything is moving in the right direction, so that's the positive Hope...
