  1. Recently I went to a concert, and because we didn't have time to eat beforehand, we decided to go out afterwards. Several places on the Wilmington riverfront do have gluten-free menus and take CC precautions, so we planned on going to one of those afterwards. Not thinking, we didn't get there until 10pm, and by then they had switched over to their late...
  2. If you live in the Delaware or Maryland area, I highly recommend Union GI Associates of Elkton, MD. I see Dr. Singhania, and he's been fantastic! He actually listens to what I have to say, and I'm thankful to say I found a GI that works with me instead of talking at me. Highly recommended!!
  3. completely understandable When I go to visit my parents, they finally are starting to get gluten-free but still have a long way to go. I watch as they take a sandwich they are eating, and set it directly onto the kitchen counter, and all these alarms go off in my head. We've talked about what needs to be done to make a meal safe, but I will still not...
  4. I'm glad this thread was revived because I just sent an e-mail to Utz! I absolutely love their Utz Gourmet Natural Medley Chips, and it labels the bag "This is a Gluten Free Food," but that particular variety is not listed on their gluten free list as testing at 20ppm. I'm hopeful maybe they forgot to put it on the list because it's a fantastic mix of russet...
  5. ok I know I'm in the minority here, and although I don't watch Jimmy Kimmel regularly, I do like some of his things. He did a video where the rapper Drake interviewed people about his music all while dressed up in diguise, and it is hilarious!! I'm also a huge Drake fan, so I think that makes a big difference It's called Fake Drake if you're interested...
  6. so although my blood tests have shown I am not deficient in magnesium, if I don't supplement with it I notice increased muscle spasms and most importantly, more bloating and the big C starts to creep back. I had been supplementing with anywhere between 400 and on really bad days 1600mg of magnesium each day, but I ran out last week. I use GNC's Super Magnesium...
  7. take a look at page 20-21 of this report: Open Original Shared Link it does list the following as reasons for persistent symptoms despite following a gluten-free diet: • Inadvertent gluten ingestion (this is the most common reason) • Wrong diagnosis • Lactose or fructose intolerance • Other food intolerances • Pancreatic insufficiency • Micro...
  8. Although they are super convenient, the GI said EPI explains why I have a problem with KIND bars and nuts in general. Since they are so high in fat and fiber, it was rough on my body and instead of a few pieces, pretty much the whole bar was in the toilet I had found a lot of conflicting information about high fat vs. low fat diet for those with...
  9. I wanted to add that the AGA tests are older and not as reliable, so ask for the deamidated gliadin peptide tests (DGP). Request both DGP IGG and DGP IGA. You can also request the TTG IGG version as well. Good luck!
  10. Hi Karen, I also did not display the classic signs of celiac. I am a little overweight, and although I had many symptoms, my main ones were constipation and bloating. At first my GI was going to dismiss my positive DGP IGG score. I had a 43 and anything over 30 was a strong positive. All my IGA tests were negative, and I have a normal IGA level. ...
  11. after eating out hardly at all over this last year, I've finally ventured back out into the social setting because of support on from this site I do enjoy cooking my own food now anyway, but it's nice to have the option. I use the phrase Melinda Dennis suggested of saying, "I have to follow a medically gluten-free diet," and I say it kindly with a big...
  12. Since Dr. Fasano's book was just released, I thought it would be a good idea to start a discussion thread. I've always known rice works well with my body. The one health advocates say is terrible for you, white rice, always makes me feel great! I took a nutrition class and found out that rice is the least reactive food, so that explains a lot to me...
  13. had a health screening for work the other day, and my fasting glucose was at 77, so yay to that and I started the Creon on Monday!
  14. I completely agree that a little bit is normal, but I end up seeing the whole Kind bar in the toilet
  15. wanted to come back and update...it was determined that the reason I find nuts in my stool is due to my diagnosis of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. My pancreas does not release enough lipase to digest fat properly and with EPI, a low fiber diet is best. Between high fat and fiber, nuts do not get broken down correctly in my body. I just started taking...
  16. I agree that if the symptoms are in your face, just go with it I don't match up with the main symptom for EPI of unexplained weight loss, my main one is bloating. Symptoms I've now determined are related...stool leaving streaks in the toilet bowl, undigested nuts and other food in stool, hard to wipe and stool sometimes floating though more often for...
  17. just copying and pasting my update from another thread: yesterday was my follow-up GI appointment, and it went really well! He reviewed that my MRIs and small bowel series were all normal, and then came the capsule. He said he didn't see any blunting, but he did find an ulcer in the ileum and he said there could have been more but it was all dependent on...
  18. yesterday was my follow-up GI appointment, and it went really well! He reviewed that my MRIs and small bowel series were all normal, and then came the capsule. He said he didn't see any blunting, but he did find an ulcer in the ileum and he said there could have been more but it was all dependent on how the capsule moved. When it comes to the pancreatic...
  19. download the Gluten Free Philly app!! It's available for Iphone and Android. I live in Delaware and follow the Gluten Free Philly blog, and he posted a Living Social deal on Facebook for Pasta Pomodoro. I've never been, but I just bought it based on mamaw's recommendation. Here's the link if you're interested: Open Original Shared Link Hope this helps...
  20. so glad you're choosing to live this way instead It's much easier, isn't it? I didn't always live up to my username, but when I chose it, it was because I no longer wanted to be negative because it is draining. I'm one of those people that makes all my online passwords something positive to turn it into an affirmation because the more I say it, the...
  21. this makes me excited!! I should be starting them later this week if everything works out at my next appointment. I tried raw carrots for the first time in a long time the other week and ended up with cramping and gas. I can't tell you the last time I ate a salad, and from the carrot experience I'm not planning on it anytime soon I only eat cooked vegetables...
  22. more good news! I had my MRCP, pelvic and abdomen MRIs all come back normal! The tech told it me it was one for the books because since there were three separate ones, I laid on the exam table for 2.5 hours, but the most important thing was she said the pictures turned out great. My capsule was done yesterday, so I should have the results of that this...
  23. this topic may need to be moved, but I wasn't exactly sure what category to place it. Recently I've had blood drawn several times, and each time they put on medical tape, I remove it maybe four hours later, and for the next several days my skin is red at the site. I don't think it's a latex allergy, but I do seem to have problems with adhesive. Yesterday...
