  1. Wouldn't you be better off with regular Lays vs Stax? I buy regular Lays and there are only a few ingredients: potatoes, salt, oil (and whatever flavour) but even the plain Stax have 8000 ingredients. Maybe it's one of those causing the problem.
  2. Tim Horton`s ~ Turkey rice soup, Iced Cap, French Vanilla, English Toffee; Note their Mocha coffee is made from coffee and THEIR hot chocolate and the hot chocolate MAY contain gluten. Ask to see ingredients on can of hot chocolate. Open Original Shared Link I found that on the Calgary Celiac site...no idea how old the info is. Best to call the HQ...
  3. Lynxear had lunch there. Find his comments here: Open Original Shared Link I hope the link works.
  4. I use the Bette Hagman graham cracker recipe to turn into crumbs for cheesecake but it would look more like mud. They don't turn out beigey/sandy coloured. Here's a recipe from Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids by Sheri L. Sanderson Disclaimer: I have never tried these and I don't know if they'll look or taste like sand! 3/4 cup (1 1/...
  5. No-bake Cheesecake Crust 1/3 cup butter 1/4 cup sugar 1 1/3 cups graham cracker crumbs (I've never found these in the store. I use the Bette Hagman recipe but with less cinnamon than she calls for) Middle 250g (8oz) cream cheese 1 cup icing sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1 pkg dream whip, prepared Top 1 can cherry pie filling Mix together melted...
  6. Imagine if you were in Hawaii or Alaska - it'd be $112.
  7. Why I oughta... Tell you what...we'll send you black market chinese sauces and dips and you can send us gluten-free Lea & Perrins.
  8. Have you tried the Mongolie Grill? There's one on 4th Street (I think) downtown and Dalhousie Station.
  9. Beverly - VH is a brand of Chinese sauces and dips. It's manufactured by ConAgra, but eat your hearts out Americans. I think it's only in Canada. Open Original Shared Link
  10. Hi Carrie, Everything depends on where you live. In the northwest is Amaranth Whole Foods Market - they have Thai Kitchen, Kinnickinnik, El Peto, Glutino and lots more. In the SW, the Lakeview Bakery, Glamorgan Bakery and Earth's Oven all have gluten-free selections, I think Earth's Oven is completely gluten-free. I can't comment on taste, I have a picky...
  11. It's called Splitt Pourhouse & Grill at 7746 Elbow Drive S.W. (about 5 blocks south of Glenmore on Elbow Dr.) ph: (403) 212-0304. Owner's name is Jeff. Right now it is breakfast type items from open until 4pm and from 4pm until close it's a lounge/pub type thing. All food is gluten free and lactose free. In a couple of weeks they'll decide whether...
  12. I did some digging. It's called Splitt Pourhouse & Grill at 7746 Elbow Drive S.W. (about 5 blocks south of Glenmore on Elbow Dr.) ph: (403) 212-0304. Owners name is Jeff. Right now it is breakfast type items from open until 4pm and from 4pm until close it's a lounge/pub type thing. All food is gluten free and lactose free. In a couple of weeks they'll...
  13. I work for CTV Calgary, I guess I'll pitch this story on a local level. I wonder if it is a medical story or not. It helps to avoid the assignment desk and go directly to a reporter sometimes. I'll see what I can do. I'm interested in checking it out, assuming they have a kid-friendly menu. My six year old would NEVER EVER eat a mexican lasagne. Or any other...
  14. Ty has the same lunch every day. The first 4 days of school he had an egg salad bunwich. Then for two days he had chicken with rice soup. All the rest of the days he has 2-3 slices of banana bread (from the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids cookbook), a sliced hard boiled egg and either pepperoni, cold left over steak, roast beef or chicken or cubed...
  15. Sorry, Molly I was an infant when I had it, so I can't remember a thing. My Mom said that I wasn't too bad off, but my twin sister and Dad were hospitalized for quite a while. Karen has a point about the fresh air. They say that about croup, too. Steam shower and then get outside right to the cold night air. I hope you feel better soon.

  17. Masa is corn flour, right? If so, I use it in my main flour blend for cookies and cakes. I use Carol Fenster's sorghum/corn flour blend. 1 1/2 cups sorghum flour 1/1/2 cups potato starch 1 cup tapioca flour 1/2 cup corn flour* or substitute chestnut flour, or bean flour *grind white cornmeal into flour with small coffee grinder I can only find...
  18. This may help. Open Original Shared Link Food sensitivity occurs when a person experiences symptoms after eating a food that is tolerated by most people. Food sensitivities can be classified as: Food allergy. Food allergy results when the immune system reacts to a food or food ingredient. The immune system launches an attack when the offending...
  19. I'll have to convince my son to try this. He LOVES sour cream, and would rather die than eat a piece of fruit. (unless it's wrapped in a pie shell.)
  20. I noticed none of you mentioned Kraft peanut butter. Isn't it gluten-free? I think it is. Or does that even exist in the States?
  21. I was sort of wondering if stuff might burn more easily. You know heat reflecting and gluten-free stuff always browns so much quicker...I like these because they're just the right size for single servings.
  22. Hi Everyone, I just found at Walmart these little toaster-oven sized cookie sheets and individual pizza pans, about 7 inches across. I think these will be perfect for toasting buns for sloppy joes, or tuna melts, or whatever. My question is: how will the shiny silver affect the pizza crust? Most of the cookbooks say to use grey non-stick, not black pans...
  23. I'm answering for my six year old son. I know that the night we found out we were having Chicken Caesar salad and sourdough bread. I had to scramble to find a gluten-free Caesar dressing, but I did - he didn't have the bread or croutons. I'll bet it was Honey Nut Cheerios. He lived on those things. He probably had two bowls for breakfast, I don't know about...
  24. If it's pinkeye, and you work with kids a lot, it wouldn't hurt to keep some Polysporin eye/ear drops handy. Then if your eyes start getting itchy and red you might be able to cut it off at the pass in the future. FYI, whenever my son has had pinkeye, it's just red, watery horrible looking eyes, no gunk involved. Not crusty, you know? Still trying to...
