  1. (((hugs)))
  2. Laurie is AKA Lorka150, famous on this board for her flax bread recipe.
  3. I just came from the grocery store where I saw a new kind of Knorr soup in a box. I'd never seen this before and thought, what the heck? I checked the ingredients and didn't see anything suspicious, but at the end was a bold may contain traces of gluten and eggs. Cool that they are calling gluten gluten right on the label.
  4. I agree. I guess I arrived at the conclusion that people are inconsiderate a long time ago. I hope I didn't come off sounding inconsiderate or mean. I've just been there, done that, and sometimes (even with family) it's sort of a "too bad, so sad" mentality. (Thankfully not with Grammas, just certain cousins.) I think events like this, especially in spring...
  5. Yesterday at school I was speaking with another mom who had been at the kindergarten orientation night. She mentioned that out of 25 kids who showed up, 4 or 5 had peanut allergies. A few of us were talking about it because our school "discourages" peanut products. That is, if your class has a peanut allergic child the school requests you not send peanut...
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. 90% of the time we have at least seven days notice, so I find out what they're serving and send one along. A week is usually plenty of time to bake something. It's almost always a cupcake and pizza. At one party, they were having a chocolate fountain, so I checked on the chocolate and provided cookies and pretzels for dipping - all the kids had the gluten...
  8. (((Hugs))) to you and Stinker. I hope the antibiotics work for her.
  9. Happy Birthday Nikki - you're a young'un to have such "old" kids!
  10. Gee, now I feel inadequate because I didn't decorate my kid's rooms. When my older son was born, we put up a wallpaper border (Royal Dalton Bunnykins or something like that) that was gender neutral. We didn't find out the baby's gender either time. I bought a gender neutral bedding set with animals on it: lions, giraffes, etc., and we got some hand-me...
  11. How do you pronounce it? I have two boys. That means "lack of serenity".
  12. Sort of off topic, but related to ConAgra. I've been told they clearly label W, R, O, B/M as well. I use VH Soy Sauce, made by ConAgra. The first item on the list of ingredients is soy. Underneath the ingredient list in bold it says contains: soy. I figure if a company has an allergen as the first ingredient, and then bolds it in a contains line, then the...
  13. That's a relief! Thanks for checking it out. Even though it snowed yesterday.

  15. I'm more p.o.'d about gluten being in Kraft's super yummy extra garlic Caesar dressing. We use Kraft for Ranch and Renee's for Caesar. It says gluten-free right on the label. I think Renee's might only be available in Canada. Does the Hidden Valley dry Ranch packet contain gluten?
  16. Act II and Scout popcorn are gluten-free - at least in Canada. I have a hard time believing it was the butter. I'd suspect the flavouring salt before I'd suspect butter-esque topping.
  17. Congratulations! I like Annika. If your husband's into golf tell him it's for Annika Sorenstam...that might nudge him along. I also used to know a girl named Annick (a-NICK).
  18. I direct the late news for the local CTV affiliate 4 nights a week. It's part time, 25 hours a week. I'm free to goof off during the day, volunteer at school, etc. I'm home for supper M-F and work 8pm - midnight Th/Fri and 4pm - mid Sat/Sun. I mostly boss people around and count backwards. I've been doing that for almost 9 years at this station. I've been...
  19. I was a bit disappointed with my $4.79 + tax People magazine May 14 issue. There was a line about Eliz. Hasselbeck (?) "suffering" from Celiac and Angel JD 1's gluten-free dinner question for Rachael Ray. I'm not sure I'll cough up the money next week. Maybe I'll just see if I can borrow it.
  20. Thinking of Lynne and sending good vibes. I vote for half blue/half pink with a fake tattoo on the shaved side. The fake tatto should be a "no grain" logo.
  21. I'm from Canada where we sprinkle wheat on everything. Gotta support the farmers. All y'all from south of the 49th have LOTS of hot dogs to choose from.
  22. So sorry for your loss. I like both poems, but as a previous poster mentioned, the second one gets used a lot. I suppose there's a reason for that. They are both lovely, and obviously your Great-gramma liked them both, so either poem would make her happy.
  23. Pot drawers! (Or should I say saucepan drawers. ) That's really the big thing. My knees don't work well, so I'd like to never have anything on a bottom shelf, but the drawers would eliminate me buggering up the ol' knees to root around for something in the bottom cabinets. Easy to access corner cupboards. Yes, I'm living in a dream world. We have three...
  24. We use these for Ty's toast all the time. Watch it! They get HOT! Ouch!
