  1. I've emailed the moderator (Aklap) at the other forum for you.
  2. Occasionally I buy Healthy Choice pasta sauce but not the soup. I'm not sure I've ever seen Healthy Choice soup. We don't usually get Old Dutch chips, and never buy Amy's. With regards to Maple Leaf, we get the Top Dog hot dogs as it's the only gluten-free hot dog I've ever encountered. Ty's asymptomatic, so that doesn't help you, but I'm pretty sure that...
  3. I think they are a great idea, but I wish the line "Making Tracks for Celiacs" was different. I realize they are trying to rhyme Tracks with Celiacs, but it drives me batty because then people will refer to it as CeliacS disease. Of course the bracelet means the people are the celiacs, but I'm really anal and freaky about stuff like that . Just engrave...
  4. My son is asymptomatic, so we relate it to smoking. Just because you can't see a smoker's lungs turning black doesn't mean they aren't. We cannot see my son getting sick, but when he ingests gluten, his intestines are getting damaged whether we have any obvious evidence of that or not.
  5. Karen, try Zesty Cheese Doritos in the orange bag. To me, they taste pretty much the same as Nacho Cheese Doritos, but they are gluten-free. They also come in small bags at the 7-11, etc.
  6. Angie, I'm not really clear on how you're slicing these. You make them in a loaf pan, but only an inch of "dough" in the pan, and then when it's done quarter the loaf? Does that make sense? One slice lengthwise and one across and you've got four bun shapes? Is that what you're doing? I worked late last night. I blame my lack of sleep for my lack of understanding...
  7. That's great, gearing the idea toward restaurant owners. Too bad the article didn't include a restaurant quality crust recipe. Or did it? (She asked hopefully)
  8. Not usually. Definitely not Kellogg's. There are a few safe brands, Erewhon, Kinnikrisp. Check the labels for malt. Most mainstream cereals contain wheat, oat flour or malt (barley malt) and therefore are not suitable for a gluten-free diet.
  9. We went to a bird sanctuary a couple of weeks ago with Beavers (pre-scouts) and the wildlife intstructor there said all bread is bad for ducks. She suggested dried corn. Of course, now I can't remember why it's bad, just that she said dried corn is best.
  10. Hi Karen, Check your grocery in the cheese section near the Kraft grated Parmesan in the green shaker. In or around that area should be a similar Kraft product called grated Cracker Barrel cheese. It's in an orangey-yellow shaker. My kids say it tastes pretty much the same. http://www.kraftcanada.com/en/ProductsProm...ratedCheese.htm
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. Try Lorka150's flax bread. There's a 15 page thread on here about it. You can also go to Recipezaar and search gluten-free Flax Bread. Her name there is Laurie150.
  13. For sure powdered Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry, but somewhere in the back of my mind I think you should double check on the already prepared ones. I'm in Canada, though, I don't know if they are different than in the U.S.
  14. They're like M&Ms only not as good. My husband and I agree to disagree on Smarties vs. M&Ms. I think M&Ms are the superior candy and he thinks Smarties are. He'll go for peanut M&Ms, though.
  15. I tried the submarine bread twice and it was a disaster. I emailed Annalise from the Food Philosopher website and she gave me some hints, so I guess I'll have to try it again. Everyone raves about it. I need to find a recipe for hamburger buns that my son will actually eat. I bought Kinnikinnick hamburger buns $6 for 4 and he ate one. I could hardly stand...
  16. Cold cereals we use are Kinnikrisp, a crispy rice cereal and Nature's Path Honey'd Corn Flakes. I think the Kinnikrisp have a weird after taste, but my son really likes them.
  17. To Kill a Mockingbird.
  18. Another question is: How do we know they are cranky/irritable from gluten, and not just because they had a bad day at school? My son's only symptom other than occasional irritability was anemia, which obviously we can't keep track of, and we are going on the assumption that if he's crabby it's because he had a bad day at school or his brother is getting...
  19. It could also be as simple as people didn't notice. "There's always a guy there playing something, the only difference is this guy had a violin" type of mentality.
  20. I think it was an interesting experiment, and I think in another location, perhaps more people would have stopped to listen. A busy train station is not the ideal place to expect people to stop and listen to music of any kind. People in a train station are there because they have a train to catch. They have to get to work, or their meeting, or home to...
  21. Welcome to the board. I have a 7 year old son who has celiac and as far as birthdays go, he usually packs his own pizza and cupcake. Almost all the parties seem to have pizza, so we call ahead to the parents or the venue to make sure there is somewhere for him to heat it up. No problems so far, and it's been a year and a half.
  22. Happy Birthday Lynne!
  23. I can't comment on the butter/crisco substitutions, but something I will suggest is chilling the dough before baking. Everytime I make cookies and DON'T chill the dough first, they spread like crazy. I put the mixing bowl in the fridge for about 20 - 30 minutes and then form cookies and bake. Put the bowl back in the fridge between batches of baking. ...
  24. Happy Birthday Laura! My son and I "toast" you with gluten-free Flax bread!
  25. Here are some from the Calgary Celiac Assoc. Some are in Banff and others are within an hour long drive of Banff. The Rimrock (403-762-3356) located in Banff, AB Simpson's Num-Ti-Jah Lodge (403-522-2167) located near Lake Louise, AB on Icefields Parkway Sunfood Cafe Vegetarian Restaurant (403-609-2613) 743 Railway Ave, Boardwalk Blvd, in...
