I called the 800 number and complained. At least they did not use the "healthy" excuse. The rep told me it was a qualty issue. Still very sad Hez -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Camping Foods!
hez replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Our family loves cooking bean packets over the fire for dinner. I love the easy clean up. We take Bush's original baked beans, hebrew national or oscar meyer hotdogs and then pile on various fixings. Some that we have are chopped bell pepper, pineapple, onion, mustard, ketchup, cheese, barbeque sauce and anything else you can think of. As always read... -

hez replied to Silly Yak Pete's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am in CO and have not found any of the new gluten-free mixes. Still have not found the strawberry, chocolate or cinnamon chex. I have found the honey nut but only at SuperTarget. King Soopers (aka Kroger) has had the rice and corn chex but no other flavors. I am so anxious for these new things to hit the shelves! Hez -
ARCHIVED Was It The Sausage, red Wine Or Cheese?
hez replied to Tra cy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The meal might have been gluten-free with no hidden gluten. I was on the gluten-free diet for a long time until I felt better. I think my damage had occured over such a long period of time it took awhile to heal. In retrospect I should have stayed away from alcohol and dairy, but I didn't. Feel better soon. Hez -

I was at Starbucks this weekend and kept staring at the case! I was trying to will the case into having a gluten-free treat. I should have asked if they had some behind the counter. Didn't even cross my mind. I am so hoping to find the cake over the summer. It would be nice to have something while having a coffee with friends. Has anyone else seen... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Communion Wafers?
hez replied to teacherkd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are Catholic you are getting a "complete" communion with just the wine. My understanding is that in the Catholic church the bread must have wheat. A rice cracker would not be acceptable. There are a group of nuns somewhere in the US that make a low gluten wafer that might be acceptable to the church. If you are not Catholic most churches seem... -

ARCHIVED New Gluten-free...how Long Until I Notice A Change?
hez replied to GottaSki's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did not feel better for 6 months. Then slowly things improved. By the 7th month I felt completly normal (who would have guessed!). One thing that made my recovery slower (isn't hindsight great) IMHO was that I continued to have dairy and alcohol. In my anger I felt like just doing gluten-free was hard enough and I was not going to eliminate anything... -

ARCHIVED Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Bread
hez replied to SBisglutenfree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would not touch the stuff! Here is what the company says about gluten-free status Are Food for Life sprouted breads "gluten free?" Any product that contains wheat (including semolina, durum, spelt, triticale, and kamut) rye, barley, or oats cannot be considered Gluten-Free. What is important is the sprouting process, through enzymatic activity, changes... -

I had a great experience on Royal Carribean last year! I did have the choice of a plain chicken, steak or salmon but I also had a choice of other entrees on the menu. One night I wanted the beef but could not have the sauce. The chef mad a gluten-free sauce for me. My only complaint is that I had no desserts just fruit plates. Hez
