Ditto I would not even try to eat at a Red Lobster! I have eaten a substantial meal before going out with friends and it worked great. Have a drink or glass of wine and enjoy the company. Plus it is cheaper this way! Hez

ARCHIVED When A Recipe Asks You To Make A Roux
hez replied to Gibbo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Patti, I can get Authentic Foods all purpose multi blend flour at a small health food store in my town. I have not found it anywhere else (locally). There is also a Bette Hagman blend that I have not tried. I love the blend for cookies. I can do cut out sugar cookies with this blend and they do not spread out! I use my old recipes cup for cup... -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream Cakes?
hez replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have gotten several gluten-free ice cream cakes over the years from Dairy Queen. However, I went in and gave a huge lecture to the woman who makes the cakes. For some reason we cannot have the fudge sauce (this my have changed I have not looked into it for a couple of years) which goes between the layers. For obvious reasons (wheat) we cannot have the... -
ARCHIVED When A Recipe Asks You To Make A Roux
hez replied to Gibbo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use an all purpose gluten-free flour from Authentic Foods that I love. I have never had any problems with roux's, gravies or cookies! I have not tried it in cakes. Hez -
ARCHIVED Canned Mushrooms - What Gives?
hez replied to 006's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use canned mushrooms once in awhile. I have never had a problem. I always check the label. The ones I use just have mushrooms, water and salt. Hez -
ARCHIVED Children's Cupcake Maker Has Gluten Free Mixes
hez replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Amy, I hate to admit this but I did not believe you! I went on Amazon and sure enough you are right! My dd has been asking for one of these things and I decided no a long time ago. But since it comes with gluten-free mixes I might have to cave! It is getting horrible ratings so if you do buy one you may want to stock up on the mixes now. Not sure... -

ARCHIVED Teeccino Coffee
hez replied to raen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Coffee is one of the things that I think triggered my celiac. Not because it contained gluten but it is known to be a stimulant/relaxant in the bowels. After being gluten-free for years now I can enjoy a cup with no problems. Luckily, I prefer tea. Hez -
ARCHIVED Scary 1/2 Marathon At Disneyland Today
hez replied to River Faerie's topic in Sports and Fitness
I am so sorry your race was not what you wanted. My dh is a marathon runner and can get cranky if a race does not go his way. First, I would realize that you were just dx. It took me 6 months before I even started to feel good, and I was not running! You may need some more time to heal. Second, it does sound like you have one answer, training. I... -
ARCHIVED Kaukauna Sharp Cheddar
hez replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat this all the time. I never contacted the company. I just looked at the ingredients and they seemed safe. Hez -
ARCHIVED Question About South Beach Living Bars...
hez replied to Kara'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't I have had these bars in the past (think several years ago) and did not like them. They did not sit well in my stomach. I do not think it was a gluten issue, my body just didn't like them. You may try calling back to see if you get a different person that could answer some questions. I have never had... -
ARCHIVED Tryglycerides Way Too High
hez replied to finally diagnosed's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My triglycerides are slightly elevated last time they were checked. The dr was not too worried. I looked into it though and think my problem was the last thing I had before the fasting was a cocktail! I found out that alcohol can raise your numbers. I think I read somewhere that you should refrain from alcohol four or five days before the test. Is... -
ARCHIVED Universal Studios Hollywood Versus Disneyland
hez replied to SacGFGirl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For A Week, Still Cramping, Gas, Bloated, Tired, Etc
hez replied to annieles's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everyone is different. That said it took me 6 months on a gluten-free diet before I felt better. I would try keeping you foods as simple as possible and limit the dairy. It takes awhile for the body to heal. I hope you feel better soon. Hez -
ARCHIVED Need Chicken Wing Recipe
hez replied to torontosue's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have only made wings since going gluten-free! I just toss the wings with salt and pepper and cook in the oven. But the recipe I have says that you can fry them as well. If you really want flour use a gluten-free flour blend and procede as normal. Enjoy the wings! Hez -
I have been on one cruise since being gluten-free. I find it difficult at times to be surrounded by wonderful looking food and not have any. Part of my issue is prior to dx the food was such a huge part of cruising for me. I need to change my perspective. I know that Holland America is owned by the same people that own Carnival. I have heard that Carnival...

ARCHIVED Bobs Red Mill Pizza Crust
hez replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Condensed Soups
hez replied to minnowjoy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This does not come in a can However, this recipe is the closest thing I have found to can soup. I use it all the time in my old casserole recipe's. It is more work than opening a can but it comes together very quickly. Hez Open Original Shared Link -
Thanks Ken!

I also noticed that early on in my healing that there were times that I was just sick. I know that everything I had eaten was gluten-free. It took me a long time to heal enough that I did not have the D often (about 6 months). Hope you are feeling better. This also might be a good time to remind your family about cc and how sick it can make you. Hez

ARCHIVED Need Help With Berry Berry Kix!
hez replied to LRgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have not found this in my area at all. I keep looking. Keep in mind the box does not say it is gluten-free nor does the company. However, it does not contain gluten ingredients (per website) and many people eat it without problems. I think the old box might have but I do not know that for sure. Just an FYI. Good Luck, Hez -
Thank you Ken! I am looking forward to seeing our friends. This is really my first time traveling gluten-free to a non-resort (we did a cruise and disney) type place. Just a little nervous. Thanks, Hez

How close is Princeton to Hopewell? On the map it looks close but with traffic it may take longer than it should. Any places to eat out? Good places to visit with kids? Thanks, Hez
