ARCHIVED What Is Going On With Beef Jerky Companies?
hez replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy the Oberto for camping all the time. I can find it in the regular grocery store. I have never had a problem with it (not that it means much!). Hez -
I have to agree, it takes the joy out of eating out! It makes for a nervous experience. I hardly ever eat out. It seems I am very sensitive. Plus if I do get glutened I stay sick for about a month. I just don't have that kind of time! Especially for a burger. Hez

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Oats
hez replied to IsAMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
These are the ones I buy. They are from Wyoming and very good. Hez -
The good news is that I did not get sick! I just hate that feeling when I am eating out and wondering as I am eating if this is going to make me sick. They were very nice but you never know what goes on in the kitchen. Hez

Either you got glutened on vacation or something at home could be making you sick. It sometimes takes a day or two before I start to feel bad after a glutening. Hope you feel better soon. Hez

I feel like everytime I eat out I am gambling! It is so frustrating. Went out and had a lettuce wrap burger. They cooked it in a skillet and not on the grill. I could not have the fries because they also fry flour tortia strips in the oil. I was very thankful for their honesty. Now I just feel as if I am waiting for a reaction. Then of course starts...

ARCHIVED I'm Done With Amy's
hez replied to Piccolo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is my understanding the the cheese pizza and mac and cheese are now made in a dedicated facility. However, it was last year (or about) when they told me that. Hez -
I am in Fort Collins, so not real close to Denver. But depending on the schedule I would consider going. Hez

Where is it at? What time? Who is sponsoring it? Can you tell I am curious! Hez

ARCHIVED Alcohol Question On Night Out
hez replied to whattodo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is always a potential for cc when you go out. I would think vodka and soda would be safe. Not sure about the lemonade, should be safe but one never knows. Maybe you just enjoyed yourself too much Hez -
ARCHIVED Is Oatmeal Safe
hez replied to Aunt Poppy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would also reccomend talking to your doc before hand as well. I eat the gluten-free oats from the company in Wyoming and have enjoyed them. I only eat these oats. I do not eat anything from the grocery store that contains oats (thinking cereal) because of the cc. You should also do some research as well to figure out what the thoughts are from "experts... -
ARCHIVED Ranch Dressings
hez replied to candi1008's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kraft will clearly label gluten on the label. Read a Kraft label and if you do not see gluten it is safe. I use the buttermilk ranch dressing. However, you are right. Nothing beats the taste of Hidden Valley. When I was first dx, several years ago, the company said it was not safe. I really have no idea why. Last time I read the bottle it looked... -
My family and I recently went to Houston to see family. I tried asking for info on restaurants in Houston and came up with nothing! It was very frustrating. We ended up eating out once at a newer PF Chang's. Had a good experience. I know this will sound crazy but I wanted to eat at a newer one because I felt the kitchen would be better set up for the...

ARCHIVED Suggestions For Gluten Free Camping
hez replied to JennyC's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Last year we had bean packets over the fire. Layer gluten-free beans (we used Bush's orignal), layer of cut up hot dog (hebrew national), then toppings of choice: pineapple, green onion, peppers, additonal barbeque sauce. We have also done tacos. Make the meat and cut up the toppings ahead of time so you just warm up the meat and assemble. Nuts and... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Of Restaurants In Golden, Colorado
hez replied to steveindenver's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It has been years, pre dx, since I have been to Golden. For the life of me I can not think of anything there. Let us know if you find something. I am in Fort Collins and would love to take relatives there for a day. Hez -
Unfortunatly, I am one of those that it takes forever for me to feel good again It takes about a month for me to feel normal again. Hez

ARCHIVED I Think I Found A Good Snack
hez replied to Amanda Thomas's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would not eat it because it contains oats. I doubt the company purchased the oats from the 2 or 3 companies that produce gluten-free oats. My guess is the oats are cc. Hez -
That happens to me all the time! I just gently pry it out of the bread. Hez

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Eaten Meat After Being Veg?
hez replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I do not have personal experience but my mom was a vegie for a while. When she started eating meat again it did not always sit well with her. It took several months for this "feeling" to go away. Keep in mind she was not dx as celiac yet so that might have had something to do with it as well. Hope you find better health with or without it! Hez -
ARCHIVED Fruity Pebbles?!?!
hez replied to justme's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes fruity and cocoa pebbles are gluten-free and made by Kraft (will clearly list gluten). My son loves these! Hez -
ARCHIVED Amy's Soups
hez replied to mamatide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have had the soup before without problems. I also really like a gluten-free tomato soup that comes in a box container (I think it is Imagine or Pacfic something). Anyway it is clearly labeled gluten-free and tastes wonderful as well. Hez -
ARCHIVED Kinnickinnick Products
hez replied to I3Daniel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In the past I have frozen the product. My guess is that the product will spoil quickly especially if there are no perservatives. Hez -
ARCHIVED Great Harvest
hez replied to MySuicidalTurtle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My local Great Harvest chain makes a gluten-free bread. I tried it once shortly after dx and liked it. However, the risk of cc is way too high for my sensitve gut. Hez -
Thank you for that kind gift of laughter! I am sorry you are mourning but I am sure you will feel better and really that is the most important thing. Hez

ARCHIVED Mission Tortilla Chips
hez replied to Cynbd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My guess is they are still gluten-free. I still eat them mostly because I like them. For some reason it sounds like the legal department had a hand in this? Hez
