hez replied to Electra's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use crest wtih no problems. However, somone said that one of Tom's toothpaste had gluten. I never used Tom's so I do not know this for sure. Nor did I look into it to see if it was correct. Plus that was several years ago and things change. What toothpaste do you use? Hez -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have Trouble With Canned Tuna That Has Broth In It?
hez replied to Sarah8793's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had to go read my can of tuna My tuna has vegetable broth and an allergy warning for soy. It is bumble-bee albacore tuna. I have not had any troubles with it and I seem to be sensitive. However, I remember watching Julia Child and Jaques Pepin talking about can tuna and how Julia said the tuna must be packed in oil! Julia seemed to think it was close... -
ARCHIVED Which gluten-free Moisturizers Do You Use On Your Face?
hez replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Dove moisturiser with spf. I am in Colorado and it is really dry here as well. I would say it does a fair job, not great. But I know it is safe. I sometimes will put it on twice before putting on make-up. Hez -
ARCHIVED Cocoa Puffs Now Contain Wheat!
hez replied to mmaccartney's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My understanding is that maltodextrin while sounding dangerous is actually gluten-free in the US. I believe they started adding wheat flour to the cereal? Hez -
Thanks Laura. I did go to that website and found no information on eating out. I think they have a booklet you can buy that will tell you places that are safe. I am not sure why but this rubs me the wrong way. The Denver group has on line places to go that are celiac friendly, they do not make me buy a book for this information. At this point I may have...

ARCHIVED Cocoa Puffs Now Contain Wheat!
hez replied to mmaccartney's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My understanding is that cocoa pebbles are still safe. As far as the cocoa puffs are concerned they were unsafe, then the formula changed and they were safe and then yet another change and they are unsfe again! Just goes to show that we need to read every label, I learned this the hard way! Hez -
ARCHIVED Artificial Flavours, Additives, Preservatives Etc
hez replied to Victoria.K's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My understanding is that colors are safe but artificial and natural flavors could be gluten. By law in the US if it has wheat it will be stated. Unfortunatly that does not include barley, rye and oats. Bottom line is you need to be careful and check with the manufacturers. Unless it is a company that has a clear labeling policy (I am thinking of Kraft... -
Okay, I have spent the last hour researching gluten-free restaurants in Houston. Know what I found? Nothing! Not one thing (besides the normal Outback, PF Changs). In a city as large as Houston the only options are chains? If you know of anything please help me! Thanks, Hez

Welcome to the world of cross contamination! It sucks. It was so hard for me to believe that I really had to be that careful. That was until the day I glutened myself through cc. Hope you feel better soon. Hez

I would try dipping your favorite fresh or dried fruit into a rich dark chocolate. You would only need to dip a small portion of your fruit to get alot of bang for your tastebuds. Hez

ARCHIVED Teeccino Herbal Coffee
hez replied to MrsM's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Personally I would not drink it. I avoid things that have gluten ingredients even if it has tested to not have detectable gluten. I think this will have to be your decision based on the facts and your comfort level. Hez -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread Setting On Bread Machines
hez replied to prinsessa's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have the Cuisnart that has a gluten-free setting. My understanding is that the gluten-free cycle only has 1 rise whereas the poisionous cycle has 2. I like my machine the only problem is that it gets the crusts too dark. Even on the light crust setting. Hez -
So if I have two cans of the same product, one that says gluten free and one that says made in a facility... is that just a change in labeling and both should be considered made in a facility? Yes, I would think you have an old can and a new one. But the cc would be the same. IMO. Hez

hez replied to Looking for answers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips

ARCHIVED Cheeses
hez replied to surfgolden's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you really want a blue cheese read the label. Some cheese start with bread others use something synthetic I believe. Either way it will declare wheat in the US because of the labeling law. I was able to find several blue cheeses that did not list wheat. Hez
