  1. @BarryC Have you ever Been bitten by a tick? Open Original Shared Link
  2. IgE? Normally, they run an IgA deficiency test because the celiac tests are either IgA or IgG. The IgA deficiency test is used as a control test in the case of screening for celiac disease. IgE is for allergies. Maybe your doctor made an error, or he was checking for allergies of an unknown source (like a parasite or constant bombardment of allergens...
  3. He can have several issues going on simultaneously. Even if it is a bacterial or viral infection, parasites, or whatever, he still has two positives on the celiac panel. Can you find a celiac-savvy PED GI?
  4. I am one who tests only positive (even on follow-up testing) to the DGP IgA. My biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB. With a result like yours, I would follow-up with an endoscopy and obtain at least six samples. Find a GI who has celiac patients. If the biopsies are negative, I would suggest going gluten free for six months. While you might not have...
  5. Common sense (all I can use since I am not a doctor) tells me that it is not a false positive. Do some googling this weekend. He had two positives. I can tell you that I only had one positive, yet had intestinal damage. What led you to get him tested?
  6. Yes, I think they have to send it out to another lab, but I am not sure. Testing for celiac disease is not common like checking blood glucose or a CBC panel. It will probably take a few days.
  7. Welcome! i am sorry that you are sick! From my research you produce enough IGA at least to validate the celiac IGA tests. The value for a deficiency has to be close to zero and yours was just out of range. Read more: Open Original Shared Link The fact that you had a positive on the celiac panel warrants further investigation by a...
  8. I was diagnosed 4 months after I went through the "window of menopause". Yep, went for an "over 50" colonoscopy and during my GI consult, he recommended celiac testing. I was anemic (my entire life), but that was blamed on a genetic anemia and 30 day periods during perimenopause ....lovely. I had no gut issues. Three months later, I fractured a...
  9. This article from the Atlantic is interesting. Some scientists are studying things that interest people. I found this interesting: "I talked with Lebwohl one morning recently in the hours before he started scoping, as he put it, or performing endoscopies and Open Original Shared Link, looking through a fiberoptic tube at the parts of us...
  10. Okay, I just have a veggie garden, so I am not a farmer. I did a quick search and found this blog. I know, a blog, but at least the blogger lives on a farm. Open Original Shared Link Oh....an actual study that kind of supports this.... Open Original Shared Link Let's face it. Who is going to fund a study concerning the safety of celiacs...
  11. No worries. It is just that many people read our postings from all over the world. They might misinterpret and really try to defrost a block of soup in the car! Glad that you have some food frozen. Makes life easier, when you are too tired to cook. ?
  12. Here is another tip. Communicate in writing via the patient portal or send a certified letter (if things go sour). You have no idea what the doctor is writing in your chart (or sadly, if even listening). You put it in writing and they have to respond. Keep all your medical records. Print them off! I have changed plans and doctors over the years. Nothing...
  13. Whoa! I would recommend defrosting a piece of gluten-free bread or a cupcake in the car takes just a few minutes, but defrosting frozen soup or meat or whatever, would not be fast enough to prevent bacteria from multiplying. I would defrost the soup on the defrost setting of your microwave or let it defrost in the frig. Be careful. ?
  14. I have type 2 diabetes. Yes, thin and active my entire life. Perfect blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. my only risk factor was my Dad who was diagnosed with type 2 at the same time I was diagnosed. Go figure. Just living in the US, eating the Standard American Diet and having the right genes is most likely the cause of diabetes though no one really knows...
  15. Here is the deal. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder like lupus, RA, or MS. What is good about celiac disease is that the trigger is known -- gluten. My MIL had MS. She had a huge flare up each Spring. Was confined to a wheelchair for those weeks until her flare up calmed down and ceased. Celiac disease is the same, but again, the trigger is known...
  16. By the way.....I just had anemia and osteoporosis. No gut issues. Now, with a gluten exposure, I get super sick with GI issues. Odd, but true. Just a heads up. The good news? My anemia resolved within a few months, but I was pretty much a gluten free diet expert because my hubby has been gluten free for 12 years prior to my diagnosis.
  17. Me? There is no WAY I would eat at a BBQ fundraiser. Like our high school band or water polo banquets, we purchased our tickets, ate beforehand and ordered a soda or coffee. The goal was to have fun, socialize and support our kid. Sometimes, I order tickets and tell them not to tell the caterer and to pocket the cash for the booster clubs since we do...
  18. Have you looked into these autoimmune rashes? https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/autoimmune-blistering-diseases/ Really, skin biopsies are needed to diagnose DH, if you have failed the celiac blood panel. You can not judge by visually looking at it. Note that some folks with DH are seronegative.
  19. With diabetes (type 2) on the rise, it makes good sense. On top of that, type 1 diabetes is autoimmune and is linked to celiac disease, but it is not common. No worries. Be glad your doctor is checking.
  20. Like me, it appears that you tested positive to only the DGP. The next recommended (by celiac experts) is an endoscopy to confirm a diagnosis. Open Original Shared Link You have to remain on a gluten-containing diet though. July can be a long wait if you are sick. Call daily to see if there are any cancellations so that you can see a GI sooner...
  21. We do this! Need to defrost a frozen gluten free bagel or cupcake fast (microwaving it makes it rubbery)? Put it on a plate and set it on the car dashboard. In minutes, it is safely defrosted!
  22. I did a quick search and it seems like Melatonin might not be safe for those with autoimmune disease: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I did not find anything specific to celiac disease....yet. Of course, there is the chance that the supplement might have had gluten contamination. Curious. Which antibodies test...
  23. Heather, Consider ordering this great book and highly recognized in the Type 1 diabetes (TD1): Open Original Shared Link It can be a lifesaver for the newly diagnosed! (I have no financial claims or interest in this book.)
  24. Did you eat them with milk? You might be temporarily lactose intolerant due to intestinal damage or you might be part of the population who are genetically lactose intolerant. My lactose intolerance resolved on a gluten-free diet, but if I accidentally am exposed to gluten, I become lactose intolerant again for a few weeks or months. ? We have bought...
  25. Welcome! This is tough. From my research, any positive on the celiac panel is worth a referral to a GI. I personally tested positive to only the DGP IgA (even on follow-up testing), yet had intestinal damage per my biopsies. Your child might just be starting to develop Celiac Disease, may have it already or might not. That helps, huh? ? Since...
