ARCHIVED stomach pains
cyclinglady replied to noelle voll's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome! Food intolerances are real. Sometimes they resolve on the gluten-free diet and others do not. I also can not tolerate pineapple. My list includes Xanthan gum or anything related to the garlic family. My intolerances to dairy, nuts, and eggs have resolved. Is your gallbladder functioning? A HIDA test can determine functionality. -
Hi! I know your doctors have told you that you have refractory celiac disease, but maybe you do not. Some researchers have found that many celiacs have been improperly diagnosed with refractory celiac disease. Refractory celiac disease is rare. The researchers discovered that trace contamination was occurring with many celiac patients. Open...

ARCHIVED Pre diagnostic testing questions
cyclinglady replied to Alm2015's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes. Celiac blood testing measures antibodies which can take months to build up after being dormant (gluten free). Here is more information regarding testing after being gluten free (gluten challenge): Open Original Shared Link I hope you feel better soon! -

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge - Length
cyclinglady replied to alioubba's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With her IgA level normal, all the IgA tests for celiac testing work. It would be interesting to see what the DGP IgA test result is. With a slightly elevated TTG IgA, she should probably get an endoscopy. But that could be related to another autoimmune disorder. Going back on gluten for two weeks is not really enough time for the blood tests. ☹️ ... -
ARCHIVED Xyzal??
cyclinglady replied to overdramaticmel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Did you call the drug manufacturer? Are you looking for an actual gluten label in the box? It does not appear to have any gluten ingredients, at least on the tablets. Drugs do not fall under the FDA rules for gluten free. Most drugs are gluten free, however. Too bad it is not clear cut. If you are looking for a cause, this would be it!!! Anyway... -
ARCHIVED Probable celiac, sore tongue!
cyclinglady replied to Sarah9858's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A month is a long time to still have an allergic reaction. I am not a doctor, but your tongue looks an awful lot like the Burning Mouth Syndrome images. Of course it could be celiac related. Who knows? I think your doctor is your best bet! ? -
ARCHIVED IBS diagnosis....confused!
cyclinglady replied to GlutenedCN's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am not a doctor, but IBS is sort of code for "I be stumped". But your doctor has give you good advice. Besides strictly adhering to the gluten-free diet, follow the FODMAP diet for at least six weeks. Keep a food and symptom diary. If you improve after six weeks, try adding the restrictive food back into a diet, one food at a time. You might be able... -
ARCHIVED Probable celiac, sore tongue!
cyclinglady replied to Sarah9858's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately, symptoms for celiac disease can overlap with many other illnesses. The blood test and intestinal biopsy can help to diagnose celiac disease. You will just need to wait. ☹️ Consider asking for the complete celiac panel, if you still think it might be celiac disease. Please do not discount Crohn's disease whi... -
Severe reaction to accidentally eating gluten
cyclinglady replied to Blessedmewith4's topic in Super Sensitive People
My reactions to gluten exposures have been inconsistent and/or severe with long recovery times. The only way for me to know for sure if gluten is to blame is to get my antibodies measured, which my GI has gladly ordered in the past. I would suggest asking for antibodies testing (celiac) in order to confirm or rule out a gluten exposure the next time you...- 11 replies

ARCHIVED Celiac Screening Positive for Type 1 Diabetic
cyclinglady replied to Mommamatt24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
An elevated TTG has been linked to autoimmune issues. He already has an autoimmune issue -- TD1. So, it could be related to that, but don't get your hopes up yet. Kids often test better to the DGP IgA. I test positive only to the DGP IgA (I am old!) and never on the rest of the celiac panel, even on follow-up testing. Weird, but true. If he does... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Screening Positive for Type 1 Diabetic
cyclinglady replied to Mommamatt24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry that your child is ill! Thank goodness you keep on advocating for his health! Yes, it could be the early stages of celiac disease. TD1 and celiac often go hand-in-hand. About 10% of TD1 patients develop celiac disease. Both seem to share the same genes. Both are autoimmune. In fact, it is recommended that all TD1's get screened for celiac... -

ARCHIVED Suggestions?
cyclinglady replied to Victoria1234's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am diagnosed, but my hubby is not. He has been gluten free for 16 years (just four for me) and there is no way he would go back on gluten in order to get an official diagnosis. Just keep in mind that your children/siblings/parents should be screened. celiac disease is genetic. They may present differently than you. Some celiacs have no symptoms s... -

ARCHIVED MTHFR gene defect - anyone familiar?
cyclinglady replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, right? Your CRP and sed rate may never go down with Hashi's even though you are doing a good job of being gluten free for your celiac disease. celiac disease is the only Autoimmune disease (AI) that you can control because the trigger is gluten. No such luck with other AI issues like Hashi's, lupus, etc. Your cholesterol... -
Since your first GI never tested you for celiac disease and might not have taken biopsies during your endoscopy, I would suggest finding a GI who has diagnosed or works with celiac patients. Often doctor directories list biographies on each physician. Look for one who specializes celiac disease. Call and ask staff before wasting time and money in an...

ARCHIVED Question on Transglutaminase test
cyclinglady replied to garys-pdx's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congrats on lowering your TTG so fast! It can take a year or longer for test results to hit normal range. Everyone heals at a different rate. Celiac disease is genetic. It is the only autoimmune disorder that has a FOR SURE a genetic link (more than 30% of the population carries the genes). But know one knows what triggers the autoimmune response... -
ARCHIVED Is skipping a biopsy a terrible idea?
cyclinglady replied to CaroCaroCaro's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is my two cents..... My hubby went Gluten Free 16 years ago based on the poor advice of my allergist and his GP (PCP). Well, it worked! It took a good year to master the gluten-free diet and to feel well. Four years ago, I went for a routine colonoscopy. During my GI consult, he recommended celiac testing. I was shocked! Okay, I am small...
