Ken, Thanks for posting this......I think ?. I subscribed and am now appalled at the amount of recalls for allergens (FDA and USDA). . Glad there are recalls, but still...... Maybe ignorance is bliss!

ARCHIVED Nutritionist/Malnourished
cyclinglady replied to KathleenH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was never b-12 deficient, though I did have tingling legs. Instead my levels were off the charts! My doctor thought I had been supplementing, but I wasn't. However, I was drinking Soymilk which has B-12 added (non-methylated cobalamin). When my lactose intolerance resolved from being on a gluten free diet and healing, I stopped the soymilk. It took... -
ARCHIVED Frequent Loose Bowels in Six Year Old
cyclinglady replied to stephenie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome! Yes, loose bowels can be a symptom of celiac disease (but it could be something else too). All celiac testing requires that a person be on a gluten diet. So, do not change his diet!!! Learn more from this reputable and well-written celiac site at the University of Chicago: Open Original Shared Link I hope he feels better... -

Get sublingual (under the tongue), verify gluten free and maybe...methylated (I personally can not absorb/process the cheaper version). Look for food sources. -
ARCHIVED Confusing Test Result
cyclinglady replied to Grumpopotamus's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I am not a doctor, so you should discuss your results with her/him. But....you have a positive. It only takes one on the panel. You are not IgA deficient (your 224 result). This is a control test (in this case) to determine if the TTG IgA or EMA IgA test was valid. This means the testing worked! Keep eating gluten. The next step...- 21 replies

ARCHIVED Enteroscopy
cyclinglady replied to Sterling's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thank you for taking the time to update your story. If on the gluten free diet, did your anemia resolve? Mine did within three months (ferritin level specifically) and anemia was really my only symptom when my GI suggested the possibility of celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Three months in: Does it get better?
cyclinglady replied to glutenkid's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What is a gluten challenge? A gluten challenge is the period of time when gluten is added back into a person’s diet to assist in the diagnosis of celiac disease. Antibodies take time to build into the blood stream before they can be detected through blood analysis. For a gluten challenge we recommend eating 1/2 slice of bread or a cracker each day for t... -
Gatorade?
cyclinglady replied to Jherm21's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
While Gateraid is gluten free, I prefer Nunn tablets for my long rides. Good for marathons too. Easy to transport. Just add water. -
ARCHIVED New diagnosis
cyclinglady replied to Mulders1978's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with JMG! There are other things that can cause villi blunting other than celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link But did your doctor order a complete celiac panel or just the standard screening TTG? EMA and DGP tests should be ordered, if not. I personally test positive only to the DGP IgA. Keep in mind that some celiacs do test... -

ARCHIVED Clarifying the test results
cyclinglady replied to KAG1010's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! You may have found the reasons for your fertility issues! You only need one positive on the celiac panel to move forward. Now, keep eating gluten and get a referral to a GI doctor. The next step is an endoscopy to obtain intestinal biopsies. Open Original Shared Link Why not just try going gluten free without a diagnosis? I think... -
ARCHIVED Constipation and coeliac
cyclinglady replied to Bradawayz97's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Having celiac disease is like being in a roller coaster ride, when you newly diagnosed. You will have good days and bad days for a while. It takes a while to heal (weeks, months or years depending on damage). It takes time to learn the gluten free diet and to learn how to avoid cross contamination. Best to stick to Whole Foods instead of processed gluten... -
ARCHIVED Food.. where to start?
cyclinglady replied to Doublejump's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge - Length
cyclinglady replied to alioubba's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The genetic test will not diagnose celiac disease because some 30% of the population carries the genes that could trigger celiac disease. Only a FEW actually go in to develop it though. Start with the TTG IGA and the IgA deficiency test. (The IgA deficiency test tells you if the TTG IgA test is valid/control test in regards to celiac testing. You need... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge - Length
cyclinglady replied to alioubba's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry that your child is unwell! From my research, in as little as two weeks, antibodies can reverse or become undetectable. This does not happen to everyone, but it is possible. Kids too, tend to heal fast. Researchers recommend 8 to 12 weeks of consuming gluten daily (one slice of bread or equivalent). Just doing a two week challenge? I... -
Strange taste?
cyclinglady replied to PA4637's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had one positive on the celiac panel (DGP IgA), yet I had moderate to severe intestinal damage. Consider getting a GI consult. An endoscopy may be in order and usually confirms a diagnosis. I wish your child well! -
ARCHIVED Gluten sensitivity?
cyclinglady replied to Maddi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am sorry that you are not feeling well. It could be cross contamination. Hard to say. I avoid grains because I have diabetes (carb really spike me and I might as well have some ice cream), but I feel good about purchasing corn tortillas for my family (marked gluten free) and I do indulge every once-in-a-while. It might be made in a shared giant factory... -
I would start with your doctor and get a prescription for an antibiotic. Amoxicillin is usually a first-line antibiotic for dental issues. Then, I think you will need to go back to the dentist. Your root might have cracked allowing for bacteria to enter. You will need an x-ray. You may need to have an Endodontist look for the crack. This happened to...

ARCHIVED Immunoglobulin A and Gliadin IGA high
cyclinglady replied to EenieNeNe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Consider trialing the diet for six months and then get the celiac panel again. It's your DGP result drops, you have your diagnosis -- celiac disease or Non-celiac gluten Intolerance (or whatever they are calling it these days!). But find out the cost of the pill camera first. It might not be bad at all. While the pill camera might catch it, at least... -
Oh no! I am so sorry. No advice. I hope you recover FAST! Hugs!
