ARCHIVED anti-ttg results
cyclinglady replied to foobag's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The endoscopy requires you to be on a gluten diet and despite everything.....biopsies of the small intestine confirms the celiac diagnosis. Some folks choose not to do the endoscopy (dangerously ill, financial, or long wait times for the procedure). Only you can decide what is best for you, but make an informed decision! ? ARCHIVED Ferritin Levels
cyclinglady replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I ran that one 1/2 marathon when I turned 50. It was my first and last. When I finish a century bike ride (100 miles), I have noticed maybe one or two people at the first aid booth at the end of every ride. At the end of the marathon, at the first aid area, people were laying on the ground with ice bags on their knees. Literally, it was like a scene... -

I am on Armour too. No metformin for me yet. I am trying to manage on a low carb high fat diet for many reasons like having a damaged gut and being allergic to so many meds (yah know....swelling, hives, etc.). Leaky gut. Nope. Better. Zonulin seems to be increased in celiacs. I am going to blame my gut on that! Seriously, there seems to be a link... -

ARCHIVED Ferritin Levels
cyclinglady replied to Peta's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I contemplated "heel strike" but nah.....it was celiac disease/malabsorption. I am still running and my ferritin is nice and normal now. It resolved within three or four months of a gluten-free diet and some iron. I also ran a 1/2 marathon despite it being a 2 (pre-diagnosis) and a few century rides. I think you might need to worry if your hemoglobin... -

The year to recover? It seems pretty standard around here despite some literature stating it only takes months for villi to recover. That may be true, but most celiacs have systemic issues. Neurological issues are usually the last to resolve, if at all. And let's not forget that the gluten-free diet has a steep learning curve that can delay healing... -

ARCHIVED Symptoms!!!
cyclinglady replied to M-SMOOTH's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes!!!! My best advice to expedite healing is to NOT eat out until you are feeling great and really think you have mastered the diet. If you must eat out, use a site like "Find Me Gluten Free" and select only those restaurants reviewed by celiacs. Otherwise pack your own food and eat at supermarkets. I hope you feel better soon! -

Why? Why bother to get tested? A gluten challenge can be brutal and long (8 to 12 weeks for the blood test and 2 to 4 weeks for the endoscopy): Open Original Shared Link I just had anemia which prompted my doctor to run a celiac panel. I waited 7 weeks for my endoscopy due to work constraints. I ate gluten like crazy (I knew I had celiac disease... -

ARCHIVED Chili's Gluten Free HELP
cyclinglady replied to spartnbu's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Okay, you ordered it online. What does the ingredient label say? I did not even know they made a canned or packaged soup? Or did you order online and picked it up at the restaurant? Maybe there is no gluten at all. Maybe they only use masa flour (corn) as the soup base.- 5 replies

ARCHIVED Chili's Gluten Free HELP
cyclinglady replied to spartnbu's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I think that is a question you should be asking the manager or chef. My best guess would be wheat, but no matter. All three (wheat, barley or rye) can make a person who has celiac disease sick. Do you have celiac disease? Or is it an allergy to wheat (big difference)? Celiac disease is not immediately life-threatening, but an allergy could be...- 5 replies

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that is genetic, but not all people who carry the genes (about 30 to 40% of the population) go on to develop it. I have a daughter who has two parents (one confirmed celiac and the other not) who can not tolerate gluten. It would seem as though she would be doomed, but...

Is there a reason why you want to avoid an endoscopy? Look through the kids section of the forum. You see that the experience the kids had was fine and the parents were glad they did it. -

ARCHIVED Question about lab work
cyclinglady replied to Christory77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I was diagnosed, only my DGP IgA was elevated. The rest of the celiac panel was normal. Even in follow-up testing, I only test positive to the DGP IgA. My biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB. Anemia was my only symptom at the time. My research finds that the DGP tests are good for very small children and old people. I was 51 at the time... -
Those cooked eggs are just fine! If you want to insure that the frig is colder, add a bucket of ice. Is used to travel without the benefit of a frig. I just used a couple of ice buckets to chill milk, or whatever. It worked. If you want a hot meal, try Udi's frozen meals. Not the best, but good for hotel cooking. Several lunch meats are gluten free...

Ennis likes to play it safe. This is a certified gluten-free product and I think he missed that. Other McCormick spices are not, but members have been using them successfully.

The product is certified gluten free, but that does not mean you are not reacting to all the extra junk added to it. What did our grandmother's use to make fajitas? They seasoned with real herbs and spices usually grown in their local markets in in their backyard. Time to plant some onions and peppers! Save this product for later and test it again...

Welcome to the forum. Be sure to browse through the DH section for advice and tips. Glad your wife is gluten free. My hubby was gluten free some 12 years before my diagnosis. Sure makes it a bit easier!

As I am sitting here, I am wearing a retainer. Yep, had a tooth extracted a few months ago. To keep the space open for a future transplant, my dentist ordered a retainer. I read that PUB MED study. One kid. Not very scientific at all! Gluten Free Watchdog agrees that the odds of this kid being glutened by her retainer is slim and none. Like my...

can we make a good gluten-free pizza crust?
cyclinglady replied to Lisak's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Welcome! The answer to your question is.....NO! I am an avid baker. Prior to my diagnosis, I made all my own baked goods, even hamburger buns. The best approach is to not eat gluten-free substitutes until you have forgotten what real bread tastes like! You will eventually produce items that you will think are fine, but to a real gluten eater...... -
ARCHIVED Dr won't order endoscopy
cyclinglady replied to blueskycloud's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is another thing to think about. I was diagnosed 4 years ago, but hubby went Gluten Free some 16 years ago per the advice of my allergist and his PCP. Guess what? His symptoms resolved. He would be the first to tell you that I have had way more support, but it is not enough to even contemplate doing a gluten challenge. Does he have celiac disease... -
Lactose intolerance is common with celiacs. It is often temporary depending on your genetic background as a big chunk of the population is lactose intolerant. The enzymes to digest lactose are released from the villi tips. If the villi tips are damaged (they are with celiac disease), then you can not digest lactose. Best to avoid it for a while. Doing...
