ARCHIVED Positive biopsy ? About blood test
cyclinglady replied to Binti1962's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did your doctor order the entire celiac panel? This includes: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -endoscopic biopsy - make sure at least 6 samples are taken VERY... -
ARCHIVED Size Seven In The Morning, Twelve At Night...
cyclinglady replied to elye's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think Lisa pops in once in a while, but I have not seen postings from these members in a long time. I am assuming they are well and too busy to post! ?. Give yourself time. Some members swear by digestive enzymes (be sure they are gluten-free). I took some temporarily when I got glutened in July. Everything I ate hurt to digest. Stick to whole foods... -
I agree. I eat corn tortillas made in the same facilty as wheat tortillas but the lines are not shared. The OP can call to verify as each Costco has different products and suppliers in many cases. I do not eat any foods that are made in a shared facility with wheat unless I have called and am satisfied with their response regarding separate lines...

What does the bag say? Is there any mention that it is made in a facilty with wheat or just other nuts? I would give away the bag if it is processed in a facilty where wheat is stated on the package. Chances are they are made on the same line as flavored nuts. Some of the nuts offered at Costco are safe. You have to read the label. Washing? $...

ARCHIVED Negative blood test but still concerned!
cyclinglady replied to zs1994's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Before asking for a biopsy, you might ask for a complete celiac blood panel: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP... -

cyclinglady replied to Irie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In order to get a diagnosis, you must be consuming gluten daily. Here is a link to the University of Chicago's celiac website: Open Original Shared Link -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test... -

ARCHIVED IgA deficiency
cyclinglady replied to Thrillrose's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are iga deficient, then any of the iGA-based celiac tests (e.g. DGP Iga or TTg iga) are invalid. Your doctor can order other celiac antibody tests: EMA or the tTG IgG or DGP IGG). It sounds like your doctor only ordered then iga versions. Not good, in your case because of your igA defciency. Open Original Shared Link Welcome to the forum... -
ARCHIVED Probiotic - Which is the Best?
cyclinglady replied to anyana's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Probiotics can not heal a person who has celiac disease. BUT they can help with other health issues as has been documented in scientific studies. Open Original Shared Link Celiacs tend to have more than one issue going on. I took iron supplements for my anemia which was a result from having celiac disease. I also have taken other minerals... -
ARCHIVED Hand sanitizer and shampoo
cyclinglady replied to 1398-Days's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Germ-Ex and plain Purell for hand sanitizer. Remember, it kills germs but does not remove gluten. Soap and water can do that safely. I use Costco brand shampoo that is labeled gluten-free! I also use Suave at the gym (I tend to leave bottles there!). You have to swallow shampoo in order to get sick. I buy gluten-free just to be safe. Same... -
Hi Donna! I am sorry that you are feeling so poorly! Whole foods are best, but I understand your lack of appetite. I do not know and have not taken any protein shakes, but I did notice that you were consuming gluten-free granola. Did you know that about 10% or more of celiacs have issues with even certified gluten-free oats? You might consider...

ARCHIVED Probiotic - Which is the Best?
cyclinglady replied to anyana's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Anyana! This year, Columbia University reported that many probiotics actually contained gluten! GI doctors recommending Probiotics found that their celiac patients were not getting better. Research this news/report more by googling. I would recommend taking a certified gluten-free probiotic until you have found one that is not certified but... -
ARCHIVED Positive biopsy ? About blood test

Could be any of these (University of Chicago Celic Website): Open Original Shared Link -
I have to disagree with you about Costco being a rip off. I shop there at least twice a week, since I am cooking three meals a day for my family. Granted, bulk purchasing might not be prudent for one person, but it is wonderful for a family or group of friends. Almost every retail food store offers private label selections and Shop Rite is one of them...

I do not think (but I am not a doctor), that you ruined your chances of obtaining biopsy results that may determine whether you have celiac disease or not. It takes months to years for the intestines to heal based on what members have stated on this forum. Remember, you can not clear out gluten. Once ingested, it starts an autoimmune response that varies...

Here is my opinion. I have been gluten free for 2-1/2 years. My husband (who is not officially diagnosed) has been gluten free for 14 years (he refuses to do a gluten challenge in order to get a diagnosis). We do not purchase anything from Costco or any food manufacturer that states it is processed on the same equipment or line. It is not worth the risk...

ARCHIVED duodenal bulb biopsies results??
cyclinglady replied to A.J.Black's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No advice was given by your GI after finding villi damage? You have to wait until February? Or were you advised to go gluten free? I am confused. The gluten-free diet is all or nothing. There is no reducing or cutting back on gluten for a celiac. -
ARCHIVED duodenal bulb biopsies results??
cyclinglady replied to A.J.Black's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Were you avoiding gluten when you had the celiac blood panel? In order for those tests to be accurrate, you must consume gluten daily (1-2 slices of bread) for 8 to 12 weeks. Exactly what tests were taken? Many doctors do not offer then full screening. These include: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated... -
ARCHIVED Chest Pains And Burping ?
cyclinglady replied to marciab's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum! Have you been diagnosed with celiac disease? We really can not diagnose on this forum. We are not doctors. Heart issues should be ruled out by a medical doctor. I urge you to see one ASAP. Take care. -
ARCHIVED Breastfeeding question

ARCHIVED Breastfeeding question
cyclinglady replied to Kaj242's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A celiac has to ingest gluten in order to get sick. You might have a wheat allergy, but that is different. As a celiac, I would not feed my baby gluten. There are too many other great healthy foods for baby. Not giving baby gluten will help protect you from gooey fingers and sloppy kisses, and drool that can be smeared on you or your home and accidentally... -
ARCHIVED How do you guys manage jobs with celiac disease?
cyclinglady replied to Zachm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I personally would take the incomplete. I know that sounds bad and you have worked hard, but it is not the end of the world. Give yourself time to heal and get the diet down. Perhaps in a month, you might feel well enough to take the exam on campus. -

ARCHIVED Do I need to have seperate plates and silverware?
cyclinglady replied to Skiangel's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum. Yes, you can get glutened by your little ones. You might consider reducing the amount of gluten in your house. Maybe even eliminating it all together. But first, you should get your kids tested even if they are symptom free! The University of Chicago's celiac website can explain this. Your dishwasher should remove all...
