  1. Oh, has your gallbladder been checked for funtionality? This can cause severe pain, nausea, etc. An ultrasound or CT scan will not catch gallbladder functionality. I should know, my BG worked on and off for years until it start to rot. No stones - just would not empty (randomly).
  2. So, negative blood tests, yet the first endoscopy/biopsies revealed damage (wonder how much?). Were other things that cause villi damage ruled out? Here is a list: Open Original Shared Link
  3. Were any of the celiac blood tests given at any point in time?
  4. Oh, I would push for celiac testing.
  5. A HIDA scan can test for functionality of the gallbladder. The ultrasound is looking for stones, etc. Here is an explanation: Open Original Shared Link I'm bringing this up because every ultrasound I ever had was normal. It was not until I had a surgeon order the HIDA that it was discovered that my gallbladder was not functioning at all. By...
  6. It sounds like you did find some improvement when you put your son on a gluten free diet back in June. He may be getting gluten exposure (and more than you think or know). That could be contributing to his behavior. I know when I get glutened, it affects my behavior too! He may have developed celiac disease now. Experts recommend testing for first...
  7. The blood test for celiac disease is not perfect, but it does have a good track record. So, experts recommend both a celiac blood panel and biopsies (4 to 6 tissue samples) taken via endoscopy. What blood tests did you have? The most common screening test (cheap and effective) is the TTG Iga and the doctor usually orders an IgA deficiency test to confirm...
  8. Our labs are open early in the morning. Can you go before work? I also usually contact my doctor via email and can avoid an appointment if it is just for lab work. Or can you say that you are going for an annual check-up that was scheduled prior to your employment? Can you live without the thyroid testing? I know that sounds awful. I can not...
  9. Sounds like it. ?
  10. Oh, there can be a rebound effect when you go off gluten and then reintroduce it. We call it a "glutening". Not a real word per the dictionary, but it is real in the celiac world! ?
  11. Welcome! In order to get a proper diagnosis, you have to be eating gluten daily prior to an endoscopy. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Take care!
  12. Glad you know where you stand! You can only get better! Questions? Ask away! ?
  13. Who knows? We are not doctors here. Please consult with your doctor if you suspect celiac disease. It could be a virus, food poisoning or whatever! As far as the leeks are concerned you could have an intolerance or you can blame gluttony! ?. I hope you feel better soon.
  14. The only way to find out if you have celiac disease is to get tested. Unfortunately, you would have to go back to consuming gluten daily for 8 to 12 weeks. There are over 300 symptoms attributed to celiac disease. So, it impossible to guess if you have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. Check out the University of Chicago's celiac website for more...
  15. Wow! Thanks! I read celiac disease/gluten-free magazines when I visit my Aunt. I really enjoy them. I just might get my own subscription at that rate!
  16. It sounds like she has had some growth and that is good news! What do you mean she still is not normal? Is that based on growth charts? Is she still off the chart in both height and weight? I am sure you are doing a great job keeping her gluten free. The test in two months will tell if she is steadily improving. Your doctor can check her growth...
  17. Here is an interesting study. It supports what Karen mentioned about hidden gluten: Open Original Shared Link Please make sure all supplements, including probiotics are gluten free. I would choose only gluten-free certified versions until he has improved.
  18. Your symptoms, frankly, can be anything. But here are the tests for celiac disease. -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -endoscopic biopsy - make sure at least...
  19. Let me get out my Magic 8 ball to see if you have celiac disease...."Does Lauren have celiac disease?" Ball: "Reply hazy, try again". "Is Lauren a great person?" Ball: "Yes, Definitely!" ? Seriously, who knows if you have celiac disease? (Maybe a doctor?). The only way to find out is to get tested. Read up more at the University of Chicago's celiac...
  20. Yep! I was anemic forever when I went for a routine colonoscopy (yes, I am old). GI suspected celiac disease. I said no way! I had no tummy issues when I ate bread! Two and half years later, I was glutened badly. No clue still as to what got me (suspect one supposedly gluten-free medication and one gluten-free labeled product). I was vomiting, ab pain...
  21. Well, based on your negative blood tests and a Marsh Stage I, it appears that you do not have celiac disease at this time, but it can develop at any time. You could ask for a complete panel which are the IGG versions of the TTG and DGP tests. The EMA test would be good too. Then for sure you can rule out celiac disease for now. I am not a doctor though...
  22. No, I do not have refractory celiac disease, but I found this study that found that many patients Who were thought to have refractory, but were actually getting getting gluten exposure even though they were gluten-free diet compliant. A special whole foods diet helped many. Open Original Shared Link i wish your friend well!
  23. The AGA tests are old, but some countries still use them (we are an international forum) ?! I highly recommend getting your doctor to run both the DGP and the TTG tests? Why because personally, I tested positive to only the DGP IGA test. My TTG (both IGA and IGG) and the DGP IGG tests were negative. The TTG test is the preferred screening test. But if...
  24. Annie, Here are the tests: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG (control test) -AGA IGA and AGA IgG - older and less reliable tests largely replace by the DGP tests -endoscopic...
