ARCHIVED HELP! I'm a newbie and I need advice!
cyclinglady replied to blueyes08's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did your doctor advise you to go gluten free before all testing is complete? If your blood tests for celiac are positive (any of them), the next step is usually a referral to a GI doctor who can perform an endoscopy. Celiac Disease is an autoimmune disorder like Lupus or Multiple Sclerosis. The difference is that doctors know that gluten triggers... -
ARCHIVED HELP! I'm a newbie and I need advice!
cyclinglady replied to blueyes08's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome. Did you know that the celiac blood tests require that you eat gluten daily for 8 to 12 weeks? If you even stop for two weeks, it can impact your blood test (s) results? Fasting for 16 hours is not necessary, but I understand your doctor probably was testing your blood glucose or cholesterol. Did your doctor discuss remaining on gluten with... -

The forum is a bit wacky today, so I'm not even going to attempt an edit to my posting. This is all about healing. Listen to your body. Rest when it tells you too. Eat when you are hungry. Go for whole nourishing foods. You will get better! -

ARCHIVED Colitis and celiac
cyclinglady replied to Nicole Critcher's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am sorry that you are unwell. How was your colitis diagnosed? If you even suspect celiac disease, you should get tested before trying a gluten free diet. Have you been tested? Here's some information: Open Original Shared Link Remember, you must be eating gluten daily or the tests will be inaccurate! -
ARCHIVED biopsy doesn't show coeliac disease
cyclinglady replied to jomarks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your results are odd (welcome to the odd club which includes me!!) First, the small intestine when laid out flat is the size of a tennis court, so it's super easy to miss damaged areas. It is good that your doctor took at least four samples. Your results for the DGP IgG are odd. Did they run the DGP IgA? Are you IgA deficient? Was that tested?... -
ARCHIVED Test results.... Please help!
cyclinglady replied to chell1329's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You only need to have one positive in the celiac panel that would require the doctor (GI) to order an endoscopy. Biopsies checking for villi damage are required for a celiac diagnosis per all the medical experts. Read this link that supports this: Open Original Shared Link This second link states: Consistent evidence indicates that IgA and... -

Welcome to the forum! Lucky you to have a celiac-savvy GI! Looks like your modified gluten-free diet helped you! Did you read this study? Bet your GI did! ARCHIVED Anti-DGP / IgA Positive
cyclinglady replied to Kari56's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum! I tested like you -- barely positive on the DGP IGA while the rest of the celiac panel was negative. My biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB which translates to moderate to severe small intestinal damage. My main symptom was anemia which I had for decades. So, a positive on just one of the celiac tests requires further investigation... -
ARCHIVED Intestinal Permability and Autoimmunity
cyclinglady posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I found this easy-to-follow lecture by Dr. Fansano, a leading celiac researcher, regarding the implications of zonulin, (a newly found protein) that is involved in regulating intestinal permeability. It might be the cause of why we celiacs have so many varied intolerances to foods other than gluten! Better yet, zonulin might be linked to other autoimmune...-

ARCHIVED Feeling bloated after eating Gluten free
cyclinglady replied to Bethanylynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Maybe too much of a good thing? Do you normally eat like that? I once got sick eating too much gluten-free fried chicken that I prepared. I was a victim of pure gluttony (no pun intended). ? Xanthan gum, which is often used in commercial gluten-free products, will make me sick. Never bothers my hubby, so it is one of my many intolerances. I switched... -

cyclinglady replied to chell1329's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you in the U.S.? I ask because the tests you were given are considered old and obsolete. Open Original Shared Link Never-the-less, you did get a positive and that warrants an endoscopy based on my research (or a set of current tests) Here is the list of current tests: Open Original Shared Link i tested positive to only one test... -

ARCHIVED Celiac & RA ... ??
cyclinglady replied to heyitsmissa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am only going to address the celiac issue. It has only been two months or so since your celiac diagnosis. I can take YEARS to feel better and that is based on member input here. In theory, recovering from celiac disease should be quick, but this is the ONLY medical condition that the patient is supposed to manage on his/her own. The gluten free diet... -
ARCHIVED Not diagnosed yet
cyclinglady replied to Clayto1332's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Your PA gave you very bad advice! Why? Many celiacs do not have any abdominal symptoms or any noticeable symptoms at all yet they are still damaging their intestinal tract! I was one of those people. I had anemia chalked up to a genetic anemia and simply being a woman for years (post dx I found my bones had been compromised... -
ARCHIVED Test results.... Please help!
cyclinglady replied to chell1329's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not a doctor, but it looks like you have a positive. That typically means you should be scheduled to see a Gastroentrologist (GI) to have an endoscopy procedure to obtain four to six biopsies to help make a final diagnosis. But you must keep eating gluten (wheat, rye or barley) daily until all testing is complete. The good news is that you have... -
I am not inferring that you did not have symptoms. I am letting you know, that when I was a newbie, I thought I was getting glutened. It turned out that my symptoms were from Xanthan Gum and not gluten. I never consumed gluten free products before my diagnosis. Xanthan gum still bothers me. Never bothers my hubby who has been gluten-free for 14 years...

I have garlic and xantham gum intolerances. So, Udi's pizza is out and bread....... I have had them, but they do not agree with me -- it is not a gluten thing. My gluten-free hubby is never bothered by them. i keep a few in the freezer for special treats! The Udi lasagne is pretty good and great when we are on the road. I eat it when I am willing...

ARCHIVED Nathan's famous angus beef Frank's
cyclinglady replied to KaylaK's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could not pay me to eat a hot dog or sausage! But I react to two things NOT related to gluten: the casings and garlic. I used to think it was nitrates too, but bacon is fine. This has been going on for 20 years. No matter the brand, I vomit. But my gluten-free hubby can easily down a hot dog and he gets no reactions. Many of us have temporary... -
I agree about the juice! I think eating veggies and fruit in the whole form is best! Seriously, how many oranges can you eat in one sitting before your body tells you enough? Does not happen as fast with Juice. My family rarely has juice. I mean rarely.........

ARCHIVED Need help with "positive" blood test results
cyclinglady replied to Karen Lynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
An ultrasound is basically looking for gallstones. I had several. No stones. Yet finally, my GB (that would work and not work for 20 years), completely stopped emptying, became infected, and I had emergency surgery after my HIDA scan results of 0% functionality while on a business trip. It is a family curse! I suspect that because I was thin and fit... -
ARCHIVED Need help with "positive" blood test results
cyclinglady replied to Karen Lynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have had an odd result. Why would your doctor even use the old tests? I am not a doctor, but has your gallbladder been checked for functionality? A HIDA scan can check for this. Were you consuming gluten daily when you had the testing done? Here is a study that might interest you. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared... -
