ARCHIVED Blood work showing positive for celiac but Genetic test says negative
cyclinglady replied to Jrod's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is so much information missing that it is hard to speculate. We do not know: 1. Which celiac antibody tests were given, the results and lab ranges? 2. How many biopsies were taken? 3. How long was the gluten challenge? 4. How long had you been gluten free before seeing your antibodies come down? (It can take a year or longer... -
ARCHIVED Will I Hurt My Baby If I Cheat?
cyclinglady replied to darkhorse's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Congratulations on your pregnancy! I sincerely wish you well. You may very well be gluten intolerant or have celiac disease. But, no, 95% of the of U.S. population is not gluten intolerant. It is a shame your doctors did not properly test you. But testing now (8 to 12 weeks of eating gluten daily) might be harmful to you and your baby. So, that... -
ARCHIVED New here , I am being tested Monday
cyclinglady replied to EvansCA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! Just keep eating gluten until all testing (blood tests and endoscopy/biopsy is done. Check out the University of Chicago's celiac website for more information. I like their website because it is easy to understand. Open Original Shared Link Don't stop there. While continuing to eat gluten daily, study on on the disease so that... -

ARCHIVED only DGP Iga positive and strong symptoms
cyclinglady replied to mam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mam, I think you need to do more research about celiac disease. It is not an infection (though it could be triggered by one but no one knows what triggers celiac disease). It is a life-long autoimmune disease and the only cure is eating gluten free. It is the only autoimmune disease that can be managed by diet. The only test that is now considered... -
ARCHIVED 3Yr old recently diagnosed and still having problems
cyclinglady replied to fishermom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am sorry that your little boy is doing so poorly! My heart goes out to you. Perhaps your doctor told you that by going gluten free your son would bounce right back. Unfortunately, not all of us bounce back so quickly. A lot depends on the severity of intestinal damage, other health issues and frankly, learning the gluten free diet. It is a lot... -

You know, I honestly do not miss anything with gluten. I just miss being able to eat out with ease. -
ARCHIVED only DGP Iga positive and strong symptoms
cyclinglady replied to mam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, the having the genetic test come out positive means that you are one of 30% or more Americans (not sure if Europe is included) who have the gene that could turn into celiac. Only about 1 in 130 people with the celiac gene get celiac disease. It's a pretty rare disease. The genetic test just rules out celiac disease. It is not for diagnosing celiac... -

Then don't stop eating gluten until all testing is complete! Otherwise the blood tests will be invalid. -
ARCHIVED only DGP Iga positive and strong symptoms
cyclinglady replied to mam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, if you are diagnosed with celiac disease, your kids (parents and siblings too) should be tested even if they are normal or above normal weight. Celiac disease is genetic, but environmental triggers (stress, illness, etc.) set it off. You can skip testing if you have the genetic testing done. This will tell you that they can develop celiac disease... -

ARCHIVED Making my kitchen Gluten Free
cyclinglady replied to Roxane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I maintained a shared kitchen for years (hubby has been gluten-free for 14 years). We went completely gluten-free when I was diagnosed three years ago. Our non-celiac kid? Too bad for her! Actually, it was best. As she got older, she started working in the kitchen. It was too stressful! She's a kid and is going to make mistakes (adults make them all... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Get Cold Often After Eating? Help!
cyclinglady replied to Christina98's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is a pretty old thread, so I am going to respond. My mother has that cold feeling that lasts for about an hour daily. She has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. If you seriously think gluten could be an issue, please get tested for celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link Good Luck! -
ARCHIVED 18 Month Old - Help Analyze Our Symptoms?
cyclinglady replied to MeganF14's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with Stephanie. You might be right about milk allergies. I would be concerned about a drop off in weight that was so dramatic. My baby was little from the get-go. She was always under 10% in weight (based on charts) but her head and height measurements were fine. Her Ped was concerned, but my half of the family typically has small kids that turn... -

Excuse me, I have to scream! Ugh!!!!!!!! Any positive on the celiac panel requires a GI doctor to order an endoscopy and take four to six biopsies of the small intestine to diagnosis celiac disease! ARCHIVED Confused about Ttg Iga
cyclinglady replied to MandiJ's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Bobkat is right. You have to look at the lab ranges at the time the test was taken as they can change. Lab ranges vary depending on the lab. I would question my doctor as to why they would re-test you for celiac disease knowing that you were on steriods and were gluten free? You must be consuming gluten daily for a period of 8 to 12 weeks for the...- 5 replies

This could be your answer. You were on the right track! Read this about a sulfite sensitivity: http://www.allergy.org.au/patients/product-allergy/sulfite-allergy http://allergies.about.com/od/foodallergies/a/sulfites.htm Be sure to see if other foods on the list bother you. -
It is a steep learning curve when it comes to healing from celiac disease. Not only must we worry about gluten, but we each may have different intolerances or other illnesses. May I recommend the Gluten Free Watch Dog? I pay $5 per month to get product information (gluten-free) on various products. It is like being a member of Consumer Reports...

ARCHIVED Fluid retention from foods
cyclinglady replied to Jessica90's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am going to be honest with you (I am a mother and I am old enough to be your mother!). If you suspect celiac disease you can request a celiac blood panel and follow-up with biopsies if needed. It is the only way to know for sure. It sounds like you know that gluten bothers you and that you refuse to do a challenge in order to get tested for celiac... -

ARCHIVED biopsy doesn't show coeliac disease
cyclinglady replied to jomarks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wonder why your doctor did not run the DGP IGA test? You are not IGA deficient. Freize is right. You can do the diet. Give it at least six months. it is definitely something to consider based on your family history. I have been googling. Found an old posting. I believe "Power of Thinking" had the same result as you. If I recall, she... -
ARCHIVED Making my kitchen Gluten Free
cyclinglady replied to Roxane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! Just think about tossing anything that is porous, can be scratched or has tiny holes that are impossible to clean. Stoneware has to go. You can reseason cast iron, clean grille grates, keep silverware, glass ware, stainless pots and pans. Get new plastic ware, scrapers, wooden spoons, etc. I scrubbed my old cookie sheets that were dedicated... -

So, going gluten free might be worth a shot! Please read our Newbie 101 section under the "Coping" section for valuable tips like cross contamination (which you know about) and hidden sources of gluten (lipstick, lip balm, shampoo -- in case you swallow, etc., kissing someone who just ate gluten....) Give it six months though.....Good luck and I... -
ARCHIVED HELP! I'm a newbie and I need advice!
cyclinglady replied to blueyes08's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am sorry if I sounded short and cross . I can not believe that doctors do not take the time to research and council prospective celiac patients. My husband's GP and my old allergist advised him to go gluten free some 14 years ago. It worked. He's fine. But it took a long time and a lot of cheating for him to really realize that that gluten was impacting...
