  1. Since this started did you actually get a celiac blood panel done? Glutening symptoms can change. They certainly changed for me. My main and pretty much only symptom was anemia. Found out about celiac disease when I went for a GI consult to get a colonoscopy because I was over 50. Got both the colonoscopy and the endoscopy and the rest was history...
  2. This is interesting. Like Gemini, I push for the entire celiac panel. But, for the last few years, even the University of Chicago and the British and American GI Associations were sure that the TTG tests were best. But since then, they have realized that the TTG does not catch all celiacs (but it was good for insurance companies.....save money.....)....
  3. Read this link about a mom (celiac.com member) struggling to find out why her kid still had elevated antibodies. It might be useful.
  4. Welcome! 2010 was a long time ago. I would ask for a new celiac blood panel (complete one and not just the TTG) and be sure to include both the newer DGP iga and the DGP Igg. Celiac disease can develop at any time and you might have just started to develop it. Also, the small intestine is vast (size of a tennis court) and it is easy to miss damaged...
  5. It might be an internet issue (ATT has been acting up). Thanks! I was just really frustrated.
  6. Well, due to HIPPA, Kaiser probably is not going to give you your daughter's results. But she should have those on her website page (Patient portal) and can share them with you. I was just curious. In any case, you should move forward to an endoscopy (you can push too for the complete celiac panel and ask why they did not test you for an IGA deficiency...
  7. ironic, i think you have a strong chance of developing celiac disease if you do not already have it. I tested "mildly positive" on the DGP IGA test only but my biopsies did reveal severe damage. I continue to fail the TTG tests Even on follow-up testing. The small intestine is vast (size of tennis court) and it is easy to miss damaged areas. Did...
  8. First you need to make sure you had the entire celiac blood panel taken. Often just a screening test is given (TTG IGA and IGA deficiency that catches most but not all celiacs (like me). These are the tests: Open Original Shared Link If you have been on a gluten free diet then the tests will be inaccurate. It takes most Celiacs to...
  9. Anyone else experiencing issues with adding a link (paste)? This has happened in the past with a skin update. It is driving me crazy!
  10. How much of her diet is proceessed -- even counting the certified gluten free items? Avoiding oats, even gluten-free, is good advice.
  11. Oh, how did your daughter test out? Was her TTG IGG positive too?
  12. Your GI is right and your daughter's doctor is wrong! You have a positive. DId they run a an IGA deficiency test? It is a control test that tells the doctor if the IGA versions of the test is accurate. Ask your GI (not your PCP to run the complete celiac panel. PCP doctors at Kaiser can not order the complete celiac panel. You had just the screening...
  13. i agree with Karen. I would still get another doctor. If she was not savvy enough (followed guidelines per the American, Canadian, British or WHO GI Association) to order a celiac blood test before recommending a gluten free diet (and use Dr.Google like my neighbor ER doctor does when he does not know something), WHAT ELSE IS SHE MISSING (cancer, crohn...
  14. No, MSG might not agree with you, but it is safe for celiacs. The site is acting up and I can not paste. Just google "FDA and MSG gluten".
  15. Me too, I eat lots of chicken, like Fosters, Tyson and other store brands. When you are first diagnosed, you can have many temporary food intolerances. Heck, even eating regular food can be hard to digest. Stick with whole foods that are well-cooked and easy to digest for a few weeks. How long have you been gluten free?
  16. Welcome! If you are IGA deficient, then the celiac IGA tests (TTG and DGP) will be considered invalid (no good/false). You will have to wait for the IGG test results. I am glad that you asked for them! Three months of eating gluten daily should give you a good test result. My advice to to get another doctor who understands celiac disease...
  17. First, I know NOTHING about gene testing. I never even had it done because my blood test and biopsy were positive. But I did come across this: Interpretive Information Negative results for both HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 virtually exclude the diagnosis of celiac disease and indicate an extremely low risk for subsequent...
  18. Almost every celiac can tell if they have been glutened (some are "silent" celiacs and never have symptoms), but they are just making assumptions. The only way to know for sure, would be to get tested. I did this last summer. I got glutened. At least I thought I did. I am really good about not consuming gluten. I do NOT know what glutened me. My symptoms...
  19. No, but I have used Country Life (Certified Gluten Free) Lactose Capsules after I got glutened in July. I became lactose-intolerant again and I was so mad! The lactose tablets helped me through a rough patch. I also drank lactose free milk. I do not take them now as I my lactose intolerance has resolved. Be sure you try consuming hard cheeses...
  20. I do not think this is a celiac-related issue. You have to ingest enough gluten to trigger a celiac response. It could be that is either an allergy or something like Mast Cell Activation Disorder (allergy like symptoms triggered by medication, foods, smells, chemicals, etc.) What to try to exclude celiac disease? Then go back to your GI and ask...
  21. I think that you are doing everything right given your circumstances. If the biocard (not sure what test is on it) is negative, you might consider the full celiac panel. She could be just in the process of developing celiac disease. Who knows? It's a tough call. She is really underweight for her height per the BMI chart. I, too, come from a family...
  22. Here is my opinion. After being gluten free for three years, I have healed. I am not deficient in anything per my lab tests. I do not take ANY supplements. I just eat a diet that includes whole natural veggies and some fruit every day. Give your self time to heal and make sure you are eating properly. I know that when you are first diagnosed you want...
  23. It is great that you know that you do not have celiac disease at this time. But, please make sure your doctor finds the source of all your problems. Something is not right!
  24. Welcome Brooklin! You are fortunate that your doctor was savvy enough to test you for celiac disease. if you do get negative results make sure you doctor ordered the entire panel. The screening panel the TTG IGA and the IGA deficiency test (this one is just a control test to see if the TTG IGA test is valid) catches most celiacs but not all (like...
  25. I agree with everything Manasota and SLRunner said (and it was well said too!)
