ARCHIVED Thyroid lab result question
cyclinglady replied to Stacy0w's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Twenty years ago, my thyroid lab ranges were normal, but I had a slightly enlarged thyroid with nodules which caused my doctor to order an antibodies test (plus, my Mom had Graves). My TPO antibodies were over 2,000 and anything over 35 was considered high! My doctor put me on a tiny dose of Armour. Over the years, my dosage increased as my thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid lab result question
cyclinglady replied to Stacy0w's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What are the lab ranges? But, honestly, your doctor would need to run a thyroid antibodies test to see if you have autoimmine Thyroiditis (Hashimoto's if hypo or Graves if hyper). Are you sure gluten has not gotten into your diet? Maybe ask for another celiac panel. What about perimenopause? Have those hormones been tested? -
ARCHIVED Can mild symptoms still be celiac or g. Intolerance
cyclinglady replied to Racarley's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You will need to do the blood test first. Open Original Shared Link Take the time and research more about celiac disease. Talk to your doctor. Do not go gluten free until all testing is done. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Can mild symptoms still be celiac or g. Intolerance
cyclinglady replied to Racarley's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry that you are sick! There are 300 symptoms related to celiac disease! Open Original Shared Link I would say you qualify for at least screening blood tests. You should rule out celiac disease. I think an IBS diagnosis really means "I be Stumped." Here are the tests and you have to be eating gluten! -Tissue... -
ARCHIVED What do you guys think about these symptoms?
cyclinglady replied to Zachm's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is a lot of processed food! You could have an intolerance to any of the gluten-free ingrediants. For example, I could not tolerate Xanthan Gum for a long time (I still avoid it). Can you add fruit and veggies? -
ARCHIVED Anxiety and depression! ?
cyclinglady replied to KJDx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum! Depression and anxiety have been linked to celiac disease. Here is a link to a government study: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link if you are getting tested, please make sure you are consuming gluten or the tests will be invalid. ARCHIVED Recovery Time, Non-Gluten Grains and Alcohol
cyclinglady replied to JustinSB81's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It is hard to say since everyone is different. Rice? That could be a short-term intolerance, like the alcohol. Remember , your gut is damaged and anything can be hard to digest. Give it a few more months or weeks (if you are lucky) and re-test. ? -
ARCHIVED Other food intolerances
cyclinglady replied to flowerqueen's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Please let me clarify. I did not mean to imply that people were not healing from celiac disease. I also did not mean to imply that a follow-up endoscopy is required. I am not an doctor, nor an expert in celiac disease. But with so many of us experiencing food intolerances (myself included), this topic has sparked my curiousity. Specifically, leaky gut... -
ARCHIVED Other food intolerances
cyclinglady replied to flowerqueen's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am not trying to be a Debbie Downer......So, no antibodies in your blood, but how do you know if you have intestinal healing? Did you have another endoscopy/biopsy? Remember, some celiacs are symptom free yet have intestinal damage. Good news about being dietary compliant. That is huge! -
ARCHIVED to biopsy or not?
cyclinglady replied to The Five I's's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Basically, celiac disease must be confirmed by biopsies. Sad, but true. I understand your husband's fears. My own hubby worried about me having a C-Section. We had no choice at the time, but the end result was worth it -- a lovely baby girl! Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED IgA blood test?
cyclinglady replied to KJDx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh, just diagnosing for celiac disease from just an endoscopy/biopsies is not appropriate as other things can cause intestinal damage: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED IgA blood test?
cyclinglady replied to KJDx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The standard is procedure as recommend by British and American Gastroentrologist Associations and Celiac experts is a celiac blood panel followed by an endoscopy taking four to six tissue samples. Ugh! The forum is acting up! Please forgive my typing! Why not go gluten free now? It can take a celiac months to years to recover. It would be difficult to stick to a gluten free diet to test that theory. Not impossible. Just really hard! celiac disease is genetic. Kids, parents and siblings need to be tested every two years even if they have...

ARCHIVED anxious about all of this
cyclinglady replied to ironictruth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! I just wanted you to know that I only have tested mildly positive to the DGP IgA (even on follow-up testing) and was negative on all the rest, yet I had Marsh Stage IIIB damage per my biopsies. My visual on the endoscopy was normal. The small intestine is vast (size of a tennis court) and even experts like Dr. Joseph Murray (Mayo Clinc) have... -

ARCHIVED Is it worth treating symptoms of glutening?
cyclinglady replied to melprkr's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear about your glutening. I can only offer time and patience. It took me three months to recover from my last glutening (my GI ordered an antibodies test because I was so bad) . Six months to gain back the weight I lost. I have not eaten outside of my house since July. Seriously. No restaurant is worth the risk for me except for one... -
ARCHIVED Celiac.com: Ted Cruz's Bold Stand Against Gluten-Free Meals For Soldiers
cyclinglady replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
No, I disagree. The reality is that when fighting in the "trenches", it would be hard to insure that MRE's are gluten free for those who have celiac disease. Read more from members who have been in the military: -
ARCHIVED Question about Lab Results
cyclinglady replied to Aehrhart's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am glad your Ped GI has your child back on crackers in case of an endoscopy. You need at least two to four weeks of consuming gluten for an endoscopy (more for the celiac blood panel). I am saying this because some doctors fail to follow celiac diagnostic procedures published by the American and British GI Associations. I am not a doctor, but the... -
ARCHIVED Acid Reflux: I suspect Gluten and/or Wheat

ARCHIVED Salicylate sensitivity- or food allergy- does it go away??
cyclinglady replied to Irene Joanne's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Bartfull is correct. Most of our celiac.com members have some intolerances of some sort (soy, corn, histamines, salicylates.....the list is endless and unique to each person). ARCHIVED Sibo and Weight Gain/Gluten intolerance
cyclinglady replied to Aehrhart's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dumb question? Does she consume dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt), etc.? Here's another one....fermented foods were not for me when I was still recovering from celiac disease (even though they are healthy for most). Same goes for nuts. Just too hard to digest. What are you feeding her now? I ask because while recovering, I could only eat stewed meats...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Not celiac, now what? (feeling hopeless)
cyclinglady replied to Midna's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Remember, the small intestine is roughly the size of a tennis court! It is easy for the GI to miss damaged patches as they are not visible. Did you get copies of the biopsy report? ARCHIVED Celiac or non celiac gluten sensitivity
cyclinglady replied to Life499's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, there is no test to diagnosis Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. It is a process of elimination (namely, eliminating celiac disease and other intestinal illness (e.g. SIBO, Crohn's)).
