Humm....I buy all those products except for the rice (I make my own). I guess it could be the tortillas, but we have never been glutened by them or any of our other local brands. All those brands, like Mission, are made in a shared facility, but they did not say that they were made on shared lines. We live in So Calif. and I can not imagine that they are...

I buy Mission tortillas and have never been glutened. There is flour in the facility, but not that close for cross contamination. I have not confirmed it, but they crank out so many tortillas that I am sure they have dedicated lines. There is a better chance of getting cross contaminated in a gluten-free trained restaurant for sure! Mission's disclosure...

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Relate To Severe Stomach And Back Pain?
cyclinglady replied to golfman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yeah, I was pretty shocked about my diagnosis. I just went in for a routine colonoscopy and during my prep consult, the GI suggested celiac disease since I was anemic. I have always been anemic (have a genetic anemia but that one was different from iron deficiency anemia) but I guess I had two different anemias. My other docs never caught it or blamed... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Boullion (powder Or Paste) Free Of Corn/soy/gluten?
cyclinglady replied to cruelshoes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Mysterious! You responded to a really old thread (2007) and it is unlikely that anyone who originally posted will respond. However, we have several members who have soy or corn intolerances. Personally, I make my own chicken stock so I am not knowledgable about bouillon. -
ARCHIVED Gi Doctors Test For Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to whtswrongwithme32's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, a GI can order a celiac blood panel, but any Medical doctor can do it. Our GP/PCP ordered tests for my daughter. Go to this site (University of Chicago's celiac website) for the exact tests needed: Open Original Shared Link -

Welcome to the forum! Be sure to read the Newbie Info 101 thread located under "Coping" or hit this link: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ It takes plenty of time to heal. My biopsy showed a Marsh Stage IIIB which is pretty significant damage. Took me almost a year to feel better and I live with a husband who has been gluten... -
I like Costco's gluten-free shampoo and conditioner too. I use any finishing product (do not use hair spray) with oils to control frizz. I just apply with my hands and then wash. I do not worry about gluten because I will not eat it. My daughter is good about washing her hands too after using those products.

ARCHIVED How To Deal Emotionally
cyclinglady replied to alr127's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
At least your doctor was savvy enough to know that if you had been off gluten that you need to get back on for testing! I know it is hard, but if you can complete the challenge, you might have a definitive answer. Wouldn't it be great for your family? Wouldn't it be great not to be considered a hypochondriac? Good luck and take care! I am cheering... -
ARCHIVED Blood Testing
cyclinglady replied to AJO21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did not feel even a little bit better until I was six weeks into the diet. I felt normal closer to a year. Everyone is different. What I am trying to say is that you need to be patient and I know that is difficult. Also, consider eliminating dairy. That might help too, In any case, you really need to stick it out at least until your next doctor's... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else React To Ingredients In gluten-free Breads?
cyclinglady replied to 3bears2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I found that I react to Xanthan gum (never bothers my gluten-free husband), so I have switched to guar gum. If I make him a sandwich using store-bought gluten-free bread that typically contains Xanthan gum, I have a lettuce-wrapped sandwich instead. Now that I have diabetes, I do not eat any grains. Not worth messing with my blood sugar! So, I eat... -
ARCHIVED My 12 Year Old Was Just Diagnosed We Are Waiting For Further Tests
cyclinglady replied to sslike's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hang in there, Mom! Now that a diagnosis is closing in, I can understand your desire to make your son well! Please wait until all testing is done before going gluten free. It is so helpful to have a diagnosis, especially in a child (school cooperation, diet compliance, etc.). If he does have celiac disease, he will probably grow! Take care of yourself... -

Sweden has a celiac group --there is a high incidence of celiac disease there. I would contact them and ask for help. Those cards written in most languages are very useful. -
ARCHIVED Half A**ed Diagnosis.. Not Sure If I Am Actually Celiac
cyclinglady replied to lmj623's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My husband travels. When he wants to eat (he always carries food with him or hits a grocery store when he arrives) at a hotel buffet, he talks to the employees. He asks to see the boxes and asks if he can have the first serving. One chef told him not to eat the scrambled eggs as the manufacturer add fillers to them and cross contamination is an issue on... -
ARCHIVED How To Wait & Not Be Miserable
cyclinglady replied to jddh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, you do not want to upset any staff members just showing up, but I did that once. My daughter had an allergic reaction to meds on a Monday morning. I had two choices: go to ER (pay more, possibly catch the flu, long wait) or see a doctor in our practice. I went at 7:30 when a few doctors get in early. The appointment desk does not accept phone... -
ARCHIVED Managing Nausea From Glutening
cyclinglady replied to jddh's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Get a HIDA scan. It testes for functionality. An ultrasound or even a CT will look for just stones. I was just over 40 and I was a female but never fat. My symptoms were atypical. I had problems starting when I was sixteen. But it took an infection and a doctor to finally order a HIDA scan to find my non-functioning gallbladder even though it is a... -

Stop kissing your hubby until he brushes his teeth and rinses well! People get glutened by their cute babies! My house is gluten-free except for a few things like Cheerios cereal, pasta and Mac And cheese for my daughter who is not gluten free. She has dedicated plastic ware, wooden spoon, pot, strainer, cereal bowl, thermos, glass mugs. Yes, even... -

ARCHIVED Dumb Biopsy Question
cyclinglady replied to JHBurns's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like Karen and Jamie said you already know what the logical choice should be. I managed to run just a 1/2 marathon just before my diagnosis (bike century rides are my thing). I finished it but I was not strong. A few months later and my hemoglobin was so low that they wanted to give me transfusions. A few more months went by and I got my diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease In Poland
cyclinglady replied to pou's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for the tips! We were in Europe this past summer but mostly ate on a cruise ship. We all did well in England where they even have gluten-free Bed and Breakfast Inns. We were hoping to go to Poland soon. Our last trip there was prior to our being diagnosed. Take care of yourself and welcome to the forum!- 2 replies

ARCHIVED 13 Year Old Newly Diagnosed
cyclinglady replied to Pollymo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh, forgot about Home Ec! Met our Home Ec teacher at an open house. She seemed to be an airhead. Told my kid that I could teach her at home and she signed up for electronic arts instead. Turns out the kids last year did not cook very much despite their Brandy Bunch inspired 1970's little kitchens. They focused on "resume building" for 7th graders! ... -

ARCHIVED How To Tell If Food Affects Child?
cyclinglady replied to TammyTE's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My only symptom was anemia -- so "belly aches" is meaningless. There are over 300 symptoms for celiac disease. Here is a link to the University of Chicago's celiac website that explains testing etc. Open Original Shared Link Perhaps she can be tested for celiac disease and at least rule that out? Then find a good allergist? -
I have an intolerance to Xanthan gum. Gave me glutened-like symptoms. But it does not affect my gluten-free hubby! I switched to using guar gum in my baking. Let my husband and daughter eat the gluten-free store bought bread.

ARCHIVED 13 Year Old Newly Diagnosed
cyclinglady replied to Pollymo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have a 13 year old daughter too, but she tested negative this year. I would think the biggest challenge for your daughter is fitting in with her peers. Luckily, her best friend is allergic to nuts and milk,, so it is not a big deal among her circle of friends and they are used to it. They are used to our gluten-free household and car too! "Please... -
ARCHIVED Rice And Packaging Labels?
cyclinglady replied to TammyTE's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I do not think I have ever met an Asian who has not washed their rice. The FDA recommends it, since rice grown in the U.S. has high levels of arsenic (see Consumer Reports issue). Levels are lower in California. We still eat rice despite the arsenic threat, but we wash it. We wash beans too. Remember, legumes and grains are raw agricultural products...
