  1. Will you be in the country or in the city? Ask to be driven to a grocery store to load up on safe foods. Think outside the box for breakfast. I just ate leftover chicken and brussel sprouts for breakfast. I just snacked on some peanut butter. Bring your dunk bags of coffee to tea (e.g. Forgers) just to be safe as I am not sure about product labeling...
  2. Sorry, that you were diagnosed with celiac disease. The good news is with the gluten-free diet and support from family friends and cyber friends, you can get well. Besides the newbie tips I discussed earlier, the best advice I can give you is to allow enough time to heal. celiac disease has so many symptoms. Each one of us are different in therms of...
  3. Fat is good for you! Go ahead and sneak a spoonful!
  4. Welcome! Here is a link to a thread that contains valuable tips for newbies (it can be found in the "Coping"section of this forum): https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ Let us know if you have specific questions!
  5. Welcome! Here is a link to the University of Chicago's celiac website. It contains the list of blood tests and discusses the 300 or so known symptoms of celiac disease: Open Original Shared Link Keep eating gluten until all testing has been completed! Take care.
  6. I have Hashi's and sky high antibodies, but I also have an enlarged thyroid and some nodules. Maybe you are entering perimenopause which can start much earlier when you have celiac disease. It would explain sleep issues, fatigue, etc. Or maybe you just are recovering from celiac disease. It can takes a few years to grow back damaged villi. Longer...
  7. Hummm.....my only symptom was anemia that had been occurring on and off for years. I just went in for a routine colonoscopy (ya get those when you are over 50) and the doctor suspected celiac disease because of the anemia which other doctors attributed to heavy periods all my life. At the time I was tested, my antibodies were barely positive but I had...
  8. Your intestinal tract is not functioning properly. While it is healing (of course avoiding gluten is number 1), consider adding enzymes, etc. to help you digest your food during this transition period. Did you read the newbie section? It contains valuable tips to help sped healing. Take care!
  9. Welcome! Here are some newbie tips located under the "Coping" section that have really helped our forum members (and your doctor failed to tell you....) https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ It is hard at first. You go through a grieving process and that is normal. But, you will get better, you just have to stick to the diet (and...
  10. You do not need an excessive amount of protein. I do understand that your body can convert protein into glucose. It sounds like you need more fat. Seriously, I add refined coconut oil (so I do not taste coconut) to my morning coffee, along with unsweetened soy milk. Most LCHF dieters use heavy whipping cream in their coffee. Can you tolerate milk...
  11. I have diabetes. Well, not anymore according to my latest Ha1c. But it never goes away. I just eat to my meter avoiding those foods that cause glucose spikes over 140. When you said low carb, did you replace the carbs with fat? And when you said you were a bag of bones, are you below your recommended BMI? Eat lots more fat. Build up to it. I...
  12. Ha! You are so right, Karen. We took my nephew years ago to the Grand Canyon camping when he was nine. On the way home, we asked what did he like about the trip? He answered, "I got to pee outside and I didn't have to take a shower every night."
  13. Yep, I get it. My FIL just emailed and asked about attending the Polish Festival. What? The main highlight of the event is eating all the pierogi's and jelly donuts, not to mention the sausage, etc. We offered up our gluten-eating daughter as a solution. Then he wanted to come by the the rest of the family to celebrate my birthday. No problems, as...
  14. Based on just postings from this forum, I think that is too long. I would advise seeking your doctor. That is assuming that you have checked everything you have been eating (e.g. New meds, supplements, packaged food, lipstick.....) I hope you feel better soon!
  15. Keep eating gluten until all testing is complete. He may order an endoscopy (that is standard protocol) to biopsy your small intestine. That is the gold standard of determining celiac disease.
  16. Okay, you do not need further testing. My husband went gluten free at the advice of his GP and my allergist 13 years ago. He faithfully adheres to the diet. I was diagnosed over a year ago. My blood test was barely positive. I knew what going gluten-free was going to be like. So I went with the endoscopy in order for me to really stick to the diet...
  17. She has been gluten free (I mean, REALLY gluten free) for over a year and no improvement? Lactose intolerant? As a kid she should have healed by now from celiac disease. I think you have to re-evaluate her diet. What do her doctors think?
  18. Do not stop eating gluten until all testing is complete. Your GI might want to do an endoscopy (biopsies) of the small intestine to check for villi damage. If you are satisfied with just the blood test and the doctor is willing to diagnose you on just that one test, then why bother going to a GI? Based on your earlier posts, in order to maintain the...
  19. I am a diabetic who follows the LCHF diet in order to maintain normal blood sugar. I "eat to my meter". I also have celiac disease. I am 100% compliant with my gluten-free diet. So, it can be done. Do I cheat? Only on the LCHF diet and that is because I do not always have access to safe food and I will eat a gluten-free cookie rather than starve ...
  20. Yes, real friends would support you! Let's face it, not all our friends are smart, but that isn't always a requirement in being a good friend. Sometimes it takes time for them to get it. So, you will have to be the judge on whether to keep them as friends or not! My house is gluten-free, but I allow it during parties, but only in the backyard and it...
  21. Oh, if you can, get scoped. My blood test was barely positive, but my biopsy showed severe damage. Your family GP can order blood tests and manage your celiac disease. A GI will need to do the endoscopy. Consequences? Too many to list here. The main thing is to stick around for your son! Put the oxygen mask on yourself first before assisting others...
  22. I did not ignore it, but did not know that I had celiac disease. My only symptom was anemia (iron) but that was masked by Thalseemia (a genetic anemia). Three months later, two vertabrae fractures (osteoporosis). You do not have to have classic celiac disease symptoms. I have diabetes too on top of celiac disease (same genes from what I understand)...
  23. Maybe easy to rule out at least celiac disease with a complete celiac blood panel. Have you had that done?
  24. How is your thyroid? Feeling hot, muscle fatigue? Wacky vision, muscles aching around eyes, were an indication that I was running hyper. Then I would run hypo and the vision issues would go away and hypo symptoms would emerge.
  25. Hang in there Ace! Getting your lab results is terrific. Everyone should keep track of their medical records. So, they are treating your symptoms with meds. Do they have any guesses as to what you have? I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you can get an earlier appointment (cancellation).
