ARCHIVED The Unwanted Mystery Ingredient From Eating Out
cyclinglady replied to Starving Amy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I avoid going out. I have sustained a lot of damage from celiac disease (anemia, fracture, etc) and I have another year or so to heal. I do not need any set backs. Does not mean that I can not go out and have fun. I attended a university basketball game with friends. I ate before I went, we went for dinner and then I treated myself with a bag of chips... -
Me too, I read about the additional magnesium on this forum. I think it helps too for bone growth. I take it.

ARCHIVED Just Started A Gluten-Free Diet, Need Some Advice Please
cyclinglady replied to CK1223's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would eat gluten. Between my blood test and mt endoscopy I consumed a ridiculous amount of gluten. I ate a loaf of my favorite sourdough bread for seven weeks, I kid you not! Plus, I ate every gluteny goodie I could get my hands on. I knew after the blood test that I had celiac disease, so it was a kind of farewell party for me. Antibodies can take... -

ARCHIVED When Does The Exhaustion Stop?
cyclinglady replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I do make noodles for my gluten eating daughter most mornings, but it's all made in a separate pot, colander, wooden spoon and I wash them separately from the gluten-free items. I buy her lots of pre-packaged foods to take for her lunch and we'll stop by a restaurant for a treat every once in a while. I allow her to eat Cheerios too, but with a separate... -
ARCHIVED Celiac, Hypoglycemia, And Unable To Lose Weight
cyclinglady replied to chris235's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To test for Hashi's you need a complete panel that includes testing for thyroid antibodies. When I first was diagnosed with Hashi's, my TSH was in range but my antibodies were sky high! A little hormone supplementation did wonders! -
ARCHIVED Not Sure Whats Going On
cyclinglady replied to Chris04626's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First, a lactose intolerance is an inability to digest the milk sugar -- not the same as a milk allergy to milk protein (casein). Start a food journal. Record all food and symptoms. Remember, some reactions are delayed for days. Take him off all the common food allergies: Milk Eggs Peanuts Tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, walnuts) Fish (such... -
ARCHIVED When Does The Exhaustion Stop?
cyclinglady replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sounds like you are getting glutened over and over. It's hard to make progress that way, but it does seem that you are improving a bit! Perhaps you can review the kitchen procedures again with your mother's caregiver. Maybe, you can do without (e.g. mayonnaise jars and double dipping after touching bread). When I live at my parent's house during... -

ARCHIVED When Does The Exhaustion Stop?
cyclinglady replied to tka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey, it takes lots of time to heal. Reports indicate it takes up to three years to heal especially if you are old (like me) or have severe damage. Everyone has different symptoms and different healing times. You may need to brush up on all the requirements of celiac disease. Were you glutened at home or at a restaurant? You may, like me, want to... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Here (Need To Know Some Question)
cyclinglady replied to 3deffect's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome! This forum is a great source of support and information. There is a "Newbie" thread under the "Coping" section of this forum. I would highly recommend reading it. It covers things like cross contamination, foods to eat and to avoid, etc. You don't have to necessarily buy "gluten free" food. Just eat simple foods like meat, fish, rice, corn... -
ARCHIVED Glutened 2 Weeks Ago
cyclinglady replied to MissHaberdasher's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Are you sure you still are not being glutened in some way? Cross contamination? For some weird reason, I have developed an intolerance to Xanthan gum which is in almost all commercial gluten-free breads and other products. I am doing well using guar gum. I also have issues with quinoa and gluten-free oats. All three of these things give me the same... -
Hang in there! Jamie has given you excellent advice. I can tell you that you will feel better, but it is going to take some time. Focus on you. I cut back on volunteering and housework/projects and just concentrated on my family and my diet. The transition was relatively easy for me since I had been cooking gluten-free for over a decade. Ugh! I...

ARCHIVED Gluten/anxiety/how Quickly Symptoms Disappear
cyclinglady replied to AprilBeth2013's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am formally diagnosed (3/2013) but my husband is not. He went gluten-free 13 years ago at the advice of my allergist and his GP. He got immediate relief from storing and chronic sinus infections. Later all those body aches and other issues he attributed to aging disappeared as well. He knows that gluten is not for him! Oh, I used to buy the Alexia... -
ARCHIVED Do These Symptoms Strike Anyone As Gluten-Related?
cyclinglady replied to randomaccount's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be anything. You should at least get copies of all your test results. That might help you in your quest to find a diagnosis. -
ARCHIVED Celiac, Hypoglycemia, And Unable To Lose Weight
cyclinglady replied to chris235's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome! I can not speak for the hypoglycemia, but have you tried eating six small meals a day? I am a grazer and this keeps my hunger at bay. Also, folks with celiac disease have a higher incidence of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (I am one of them). -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Chinese Food
cyclinglady replied to Nick-incollege's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Chinese people who do not speak English well! Seriously, we attempted to eat in China town in San Francisco, but could not find a restaurant that really understood Our gluten-free needs. This was last year and now we check out websites recommended by folks with celiac disease. We have eaten at PF Chang's successfully and even though they have a good reputation... -
So, sorry that you are feeling so bad! Fibro is awful -- my mom has it and I hope that I don't ever get it……. The only cure for Celiac Disease or a gluten intolerance is strict avoidance. I highly recommend that you review the newbie section under coping with celiac disease located on this forum. Here's the link: https://www.celiac.com/forums/top...

ARCHIVED Should Hydrocortisone Do This To My Labs?
cyclinglady replied to nvsmom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey There, NVSMom! Wow, I think I have yet to post an interesting and intelligent question yet on this forum. Someone always beats me to it! First, calm down. I say that because I've been telling myself that for the past 24 hours! I just got back my fasting glucose = 100 (range is 65-99) and my HbA1c is the same as yours: 5.8% and the range is... -
ARCHIVED Raw Milk And Lactose Intolerance Symptoms
cyclinglady replied to GlutenFreeIsTheBest's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have a milk allergy -- not an intolerance but there have been many cases of severe illness and even death when drinking raw milk (the reason it is not available in all states?). I would suggest that you discuss this with your doctor before drinking it. I personally will stick to milk alternatives from a risk management perspective.
