  1. Sorry, I think people have not responded because they don't have any knowledge about C-diff. Has your son been tested for celiac disease? You can go to the University of Chicago website and they list the exact blood tests that can be ordered by your son's GP or PED or PED GI doctor. Oats, unless they are certified gluten free, can be cross contaminated...
  2. Time.......really! It takes a long time to heal. It has taken me almost a year to heal and I was already knowledgeable about being gluten free since my husband has been gluten free for 13 years. Have you read the newbie thread under the Coping section? You still might be getting gluten in your diet as there are so many hidden sources of gluten. Most...
  3. Anemia/low ferritin was my only symptom. I went in for a routine colonoscopy and the GI suggested celiac disease. I was shocked! Had all that intestinal damage. Your ferritin is way too low! There is a reason for that iron deficiency and it is not always your period. Good luck and welcome!
  4. What about UCLA? They have a digestive issues center and they treat celiac disease. UC San Diego also has a celiac disease center.
  5. What was the TSH value. The range is broad and it is best to be between a 1 and a 3, with closer to 1 being best. Your other thyroid values? Were you tested for antibodies? Anemia (low ferrtin) and higher range TSH levels are always the culprits when my running becomes sluggish. Mt celiac disease blood tests indicated a mild positive, but my intestinal...
  6. Yep, we have used it too without any problems.
  7. My dog is on a grain free dog food. I do not have to worry about cross contamination and she is thriving!
  8. All wise advice. I can not eat eggs, nuts or any milk products. That means I never eat them! Over the years I have been able to eat eggs in baked items like cookies, never never scrambled, etc.. I worked with an allergist to help identify most of my allergies. A candida problem seems unlikely as you have not mentioned any chronic fungal infections...
  9. My daughter is 13 but does not have celiac disease. Instead of enrolling in cooking (those cute little kitchens at the school are so "Brady Bunch") she decided to enroll in band and that I would teach her to cook. It is working out and we are having fun baking gluten-free (no gluten flour ever in our house!). She also has talked to her friends who have...
  10. Ha! Served my family their first helping of "fake mashed potatoes" made from mashed califlower, butter and cream. They were not thrilled, but they said it was better than the asparagus! Sticking to a low carb diet and it is helping with my blood sugar levels. This is much harder than giving up gluten.
  11. The website will explain in detail how to test. You can go to YouTube to find out how to use the meter. No, Kool-aid -- just a plan boiled and peeled potato, cup of rice or a bagel (but that is not an option for celiacs).
  12. I am not an expert, but I have been very anemic. I have a genetic anemia that has to do with small red blood cells (MCV) and had iron deficiency before my celiac disease diagnosis. Ferritin levels (iron stores) is a good indication of iron-defiency anemia. I could process iron but could not store it because of the celiac disease. My red blood cells...
  13. Diabetes? Go to Blood Sugar 101 and there is a section about how to test your blood glucose levels if you do not have insurance or just want to know. Doctors will typically not give you a meter or strips until your are actually diabetic. You can buy a cheap meter at Walmart and the strips are less than 50 cents. Total cost about $30. It is pretty accurate...
  14. Okay, you have stones (those show on a CT scan or ultrasound) but is your gallbladder functioning (squeezing and releasing bile)? I never had stones and neither did my grandmother, dad or five of his six siblings and four cousins to date and we are all gallbladder free. My aunt did develop stones after her gallbladder was removed 40 years earlier...
  15. It took me six weeks to see any results and one year to feel completely normal. My only symptom was anemia, but between the blood test and the biopsy, I ate a lot of gluten, and then developed some intestinal issues. Those are the ones that improve within six weeks of remaining on a gluten free diet. My husband has been gluten free for 13 years so...
  16. Thanks, Peter! I will take you up on your offer. I am definitely not an expert on diabetes and am only in the early stages of research. I realize that Berstein's book does not follow mainstream practices and lacks sited research, but it does contain good tips. Jenny Ruhl's Blood Sugar 101 was very helpful and seemed to be well sited. I have...
  17. Did they test for celiac when they did the old biopsies? Just from my personal experience, my blood test showed barely positive but my biopsy showed moderate to severe damage. I was also anemic and found out after my diagnosis to have osteopenia and osteoporosis. If you do another biopsy, be sure they take 6 or more samples.
  18. So sorry to hear about your foot. Glad you are recovering. Have any friends who can come to your house to cook? At least in big batches? I can relate. I was on bed rest during my pregnancy. Hubby made me a ham sandwich every single day packed in a mini cooler. More to come. Have to get the kid to school and i am typing for the first time ...
  19. Good to know. It is fun trying out new products.
  20. Hope you are feeling better soon. I do not think celiac disease is related to cellulitis. That is a bacterial skin infection from a cut, insect sting, etc.
  21. Have you had a HIDA scan? My gallbladder was removed seven years ago on a business trip because 1) it was infected and 2) it was at 0% non-functioning based 3) horrible family history of non-functioning gallbladders. I have often considered that had I been diagnosed earlier, I might have been able to keep it (but probably not!) There are possible complications...
  22. I use both stainless and wooden spoons. The gluten ones are clearly marked with my daughter's name and kept with her gluten pot and colander. I only have one silicon spatula that is used for my husband's non-stick egg pan. All my other pans are stainless and cast iron which I adore!
  23. Lucky you! I can only eat eggs baked in something. Hey, at least I got that back! But that's another thread……Ha! Enjoy that Miracle Whip!
