  1. Wow! I feel like jumping on my bike after reading your blog. Glad that exercise is making you feel good.
  2. I was officially diagnosed last year. My husband went gluten free 13 years ago at the advice of my allergist and his GP. The bad news is that he does not have a formal diagnosis, but the better news is that he is well! You have your blood test results. I would go with that. Save your cash to purchase gluten free items for your kitchen. Welcome!
  3. I have lots of allergies and food intolerances besides having celiac disease. I am the only one diagnosed with celiac disease, but my whole family has allergies and various food intolerances. Best thing to do is to keep a food journal. Do some research on it. If you know that pork bothers you then do not eat it. Maybe in a year or so, you might be able...
  4. I am prediabetic and have been on a low carb high fat diet for seven weeks. I have dropped 8 to 10 pounds but have been holding steady for the last week or so. I am still in the normal BMI range and at my wedding weight. That extra weight I was blaming on perimenopause and having a baby late in life, turned out to be eating too many sweets! I milked that...
  5. No scents for me for the last 15 years. I used to run though the department store cosmetics department. It made me feel sick! I will not let anyone in my family where scents either still. But I think it has improved somewhat.
  6. Be patient. Take a year or so to get well and you will have that baby! I had mine at 39 so there is still time.
  7. Welcome! You are not alone and you are not crazy! You will get better! You just have to learn to be diligent about avoiding gluten or getting cross contaminated. My husband went gluten-free 13 years ago at the advice of my allergist and his GP . I was diagnosed last year and my only symptom was anemia. I just went in for a routine colonoscopy and...
  8. I read the ingredients for one of their favors on their website. No milk. No gluten. Maybe you are intolerant to soy? I am a soy drinker (Silk brand) and am thankful that I can drink it. I am allergic to milk proteins and nuts and intolerant to coconut milk. The SO Good frozen desserts are gluten free and do not contain milk. I suggest googling...
  9. Sounds like a good diet for blood sugar control. I would test rice again (though it spikes my blood sugar) but in a whole form. You may have been glutened by the rice cakes, unless they were certified gluten-free. Cross contamination is always a possibility with processed foods that share a line. Manufacturers are getting better about disclosing ingredients...
  10. I carry a tote bag full of gluten-free snacks for two of us on the plane in addition to my usual carry on items. No one will complain. I pack fruit, fruit leathers, crackers, jerky, chips, etc. since I am now diabetic too, I plan on taking a zip lock Baggie with ice to keep cheese, veggies and meat cold. I will dump the first bag going through security...
  11. I can not speak for myself, but my cousin who did not test positive to celiac disease, did go gluten free and has never had another bladder infection since (over a year). If she eats gluten, it makes her sick, though an accidental glutening, has not brought back her bladder infections.
  12. My 13 year tested negative. I will not bother with a gene test. Odds are she has the necessary genes to develop celiac disease since I have it and my husband (who was never diagnosed but has been gluten-free for 13 years based on the advice of my allergist and his GP). But will she develop it? Who knows? We will just keep an eye out for intestinal...
  13. Can not say. Those are gene results and I am not an expert interpreting those. In any case, even if positive, some 30% of Americans have those genes but most do not develop celiac disease. Your doctor needs to order a complete celiac blood panel.
  14. Your BMI is still acceptable. Again, I would not panic over it. I am following a low carb, high fat diet to control my diabetes. I am just pre-diabetic and am not on insulin or meds. I will go in another month so to determine my type. There is a good diabetic forum that supports a LCHF diet. Are you a meat and fish eater? I read that you eat...
  15. I have to schedule a biopsy, soon but still on gluten so I don't mess up the results. Problem is that the nearest place that does them is 2 hrs away so it is difficult to find time to do it. They also want to do a colonoscopy at the same time because my mother had colon cancer at 45 and they say you should have your first one 10 years before your parent was...
  16. Can not wait to hear about your test results in six weeks. Sorry to say, that it is doubtful that you will recover the ability to eat garlic. I can not it eat it or any of the family even after going gluten free. I still am allergic to milk and nuts. I can eat eggs now in baked goods. Let's hope things are different for you!
  17. Time.......lots of it. Tough it out for a few more weeks to a month. I only had nausea when I had gallbladder issues. Work on the celiac issue first. One thing at a time. Did you read the newbie section? It contains valuable tips as the others have suggested.
  18. Do not feel silly! You did just help someone -- me. I am officially pre-diabetic. Because I did not want to change my diet based on one test, I purchased a meter. I do have issues processing carbs and when I go back to my doctor, I will ask to be tested further to determine which type I have. It is nice to know that you are managing quite well.
  19. What is your BMI? If it is not below the healthy range, then you are okay. People are so used to seeing heavier people and quick weight loss is concerning. I am pre diabetic and and following a very low carb diet. Am just eating to my meter. I have lost some weight but I am still the healthy BMI range. Here is a yummy tip, refined coconut oil...
  20. How long have you been gluten free? Lots of gluten-free folks have to wait many months to a year before drinking.
  21. If you are allergic to tree nuts, then exclude all of the from your diet. Eat peanuts since they are a legume. Stephanie is right about allergies. The test you took is not accurate but it might make it easier to discover intolerances. At least it was a place to start. Keep a food journal. If you really get a reaction beyond the gut (skin, breathing...
  22. Great idea. I do need a dresser version to haul around my lunch or dinner. A cute insulated bag. I am going shopping!
  23. If you are going gluten-free, then start supplementing with gluten-free vitamins, etc. for the next three to six months. As you heal, you should start absorbing iron, vit, D etc. Get re-tested as too much iron is just as bad as too little. I was formally diagnosed last year, but my husband has been gluten-free for 13 years at the advice of my allergist...
  24. Nah, they are good kids and I am just assisting. There is a reward after this trip.. Staying at a $400 per night room for free at the beach with a girlfriend and her daughter and mine (perks for lifelong service) starting the next day. Traveling with my ice chest. Kind of tacky, but you do what you got to do! Where is all this positive thinking...
