  1. This is a really good forum!
  2. I also recommend a diabetes forum. I have been lurking, but have not joined yet. See how others have dealt with wound healing.
  3. Enjoy! I will look forward to your yummy recipe postings and travel tips!
  4. Julie, I am concerned about your wound healing. I am diabetic, a newbie for sure, but I eat to my meter. You mentioned Mexican food. I love it, but I can now only eat the meat and salad fixings. Rice, beans and corn definitely spike my blood sugar level for hours. I urge you to do more research on a very low carb, high fat diet at least until you...
  5. Have you had your blood glucose tested lately? Tree nuts everyday? You might have developed an intolerance.
  6. I can relate. I rarely eat out. Now we travel in an RV and meals are a lesser concern. We still travel via air and we always purchase a nice chest and make sure hotel rooms have frigs. At home, we keep Go Picnics with us and other foods in a ice chest. We just order drinks and tailgate out in the parking lot if we were not able to eat before going to...
  7. Did you ever get a complete thyroid panel? Testing for antibodies will confirm a Hashi's diagnosis. Looking back at your previous posts, you mention a gluten test. Was it a complete celiac panel? The thyroid tests are pretty accurate. Candida. Were you on long term antibiotics? What makes you think you have a yeast issue? Finally, have you...
  8. Just came in from watering my tomatoes, cabbage, peas, spinach, Brussels sprouts and lettuce. I did not plant a garden in the fall because of my illness. Another sign of recovery! The tomatoes are volunteers from last year, but with our extremely mild winter, they are thriving. They are in awkward spots, but who cares? The garden was planted a little...
  9. Of course you are welcome at this forum! It is for anyone struggling from the effects of eating gluten or those helping family or friends.
  10. How old are you? I am the same height, had a baby at 40, nursed for two years, ran, swam and cycled and kept that extra 10 pounds (just gained 26 during pregnancy) until I hit menopause. Peri menopause tends to hold on to fat cells to make up for loss of estrogen from some of my research. I never changed my diet at all during that time. I liked the extra...
  11. I would not cross it off. My husband who has not been formally diagnosed, has been gluten-free for 13 years. By going gluten-free, he stopped snoring, lost the fatigue bad body aches, sinus infections, etc. I just had anemia and had no idea that I had celiac disease! My blood test was mildly positive, but I had moderate to severe intestinal damage. ...
  12. Keep a food journal. You may have intolerances to soy, dairy, nightshades, garlic (you would not catch me eating spaghetti sauce.... the tomatoes and the garlic, it is a killer!). I have known most of my allergies and intolerances long before my celiac disease dx.
  13. You are not too sensitive. I can totally relate! I usually try to laugh it off. Seriously, if it is happening in your workplace, you should go to HR. Harassment is not just sexual. A little more training might be needed at your company.
  14. Does a doctor think you have a parasite? There are prescription meds (some only available through the CDC) that target specific parasites. Of course there are OTC drugs for pin worms. Our preschool once got infected. What makes you think it is parasites? Where have you traveled? I would not advise a cleanse without a doctor's supervision.
  15. I would give up gluten for six months. It is worth a try. My cousin gave up gluten after getting a negative endo. She feels much better. My husband gave it up 13 years ago without a formal dx. Then you need to track your foods to see what might trigger other issues besides intestinal. Like red wine triggers my rosacea. I am allergic to milk proteins...
  16. Check for hormonal imbalances like too much testosterone, lower estrogen......I developed KP when my doc added testosterone to my HRT cream. It completely went away when I stopped the testosterone. Had KP for about three months.
  17. You are not suppose to take probiotics when taking an antibiotic, especially a systemic one per my MD. You are to wait a few days until the antibiotic clears from the body. Just a waste of money. Does he have allergies or food intolerances? Have you taken him off foods like soy or milk? Mucus, (runny nose, eyes, or gut) is a normal allergic response...
  18. Even though I was never vit. B-12 deficient, I took a sublingual version as well as magnesium to combat some neuropathy I was experiencing due to celiac disease or diabetes. It seemed to solve this issue, but who knows? It did not hurt me! It might be with investigating in your case.
  19. I am not an expert in anemia, but my body was able to use iron, but had a hard time storing it due to the celiac disease. I guess they look at hemoglobin levels below the range. My hemoglobin level has always been slightly below the normal range due to a genetic anemia called Thalassemia (tiny red blood cells, out of range MCV). Luckily, my body has compensated...
  20. Yes, my husband would be the first to admit, that I have had it much easier going gluten free with family, friends and medical with my celiac disease diagnosis. I waited until this January to have my pre-teen daughter tested. We are self-employed and in the past it's been hard getting individual health insurance due to my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis diagnosis...
  21. Get all copies of your lab reports. Information given by a receptionist? That's ridiculous! In any case, you should always keep good health records. Check out the newbie thread located under the "Coping" section for ideas and tips on going gluten free. Welcome!
  22. I have functioned very well on a TSH that's close to a 3. I have Hashi's (almost 20 years) and I'd take that over getting hyper (experienced wild thyroid swings for a year prior to my celiac disease diagnosis). celiac disease? I tested "mildly positive" and my biopsy showed Marsh Stage IIIB (moderate to severe damage). And if by chance they didn't catch...
  23. How horrible for you having to deal with doctor who is….(well, you can fill in the blank!) Good job, Mom, for fighting on behalf of your baby!
  24. Oh, for those diagnosed with celiac disease or NCGI (non-celiac gluten intolerance), the healing process can take months to years depending on the damage to the small intestines and the age of the patient (older folks often take longer to heal). And you have good days and bad days…...
